i study the book of Hafetz haim about "lashon Hara". It is allowed to blame somebody under certain conditions,if it is done with the goal to avoid harm. I think Rav Ovadia knows better than i which are those conditions. It seems that Rav Ovadia is a "Gadol Hador"

I wish that the media would be more careful in their descriptions of these stories. I am of the opinion that these Anti-Chareidi stories (WOW attacks at the Kotel, attacks on soldiers, gender segregation on busses) are exagerated the majority of the time.
