31. PERES ALWAYS TRIED TO GENERATE A PERSONALITY CULT...

... in contrast to the true hero Y.Rabin (z"l) who eschewed excess attention and was viscerally shy. Peres is a legend in his own mind - and an expert at cultivating excessive Diaspora attention and funding... by always saying the "right" things.

You must take into account that Rabin was Prime Minister and responsible, He certainly could not rely on Peres' (who had absolutely no operations exoerience) opinion. He approved of the operation only after he, as a very experienced military man, went deeply into the details. He went deeply into into such things while Peres' mind was usually somewhere else, concentrating on politics.

Peres deserves some sort of credit for stepping into the role of President of Israel at a time when the previous parasite was busted for being a serial rapist. That Peres was willing to use his large shadow (perhaps created by an oversized ego) to re-establish the statesmanship of the presidency is to his credit. Other than that, he seems overly concerned about his legacy, but who at 90 wouldn't be at least curious? He'll be unable to influence anything once he's gone and even Sharon Stone won't be "mentored". The rest of us can look forward to being significantly less bored.
