1. Had the dead one been a terrorist this man would be a hero
Al   (06.21.13)
but being PC to the point of being stupid, you want to crucify him. He did the right thing...end of story,
2. Release the man right away!
Kolboynik ,   Baltimore   (06.21.13)
What kind of an idiot screams "Allah Hu akbar'??? -- This insane person put everyone in danger by his actions. I cannot go into a theater and scream "FIRE", that would be just as stupid. Many said that he was disturbed. Its not the guards fault that he needed mental help.
3. trigger happy
nansy arabi ,   Ramallah   (06.21.13)
this is not the first incident of kind..so many Arabs were killed in the same way.Israeli security officers are trigger happy..they shoot directly without warning.
4. Thank you, yNet!
Avi Yisraeli ,   Tel-Aviv   (06.21.13)
Thank you for updating the previous headline, which oddly read: "Security guard shoots dead Jewish man.." That really didn't sound right. (Was anyone else wondering: How long was the man dead before he shot him?) By looking at the pattern of the 10 shots fired, with the last three shots taken within 1 meter, it's obvious there was more to the guard's original version of the story.
5. maybe a little trigger happy but not murerer
zionist forever   (06.21.13)
There is nothing about this mans character which suggests he trying to murder anybody, he was an armed guard he mistakenly thought he was shooting a terrorist such things happen. Its also a fact whilst you can be trained on proper use of your gun when your put on the spot there is no guarantee that you won't forget all your training and rather than firing 1-2 shots like he should do he empties the entire magazine. This seems to me nothing more than an unfortunate incident and a guard being trigger happy.
6. ID of shooter?
Avi Yisraeli ,   Tel-Aviv   (06.21.13)
Other sites (abroad) are reporting that the guard was Druze. Is there a gag order in place in Israel not allowing his identity or ethnic background to be published?
7. #3
Get Real ,   UK   (06.21.13)
And Arabs set-off bombs without warning.
8. #3 "so many Arabe were killed"
(06.21.13)
name one
9. No6 does it matter?
(06.21.13)
10. #2
Sane   (06.21.13)
If it is true that he yelled it I agree. But first you have to make sure that that was what happened. If it was they should release him, and also help him with counselling because it is traumatic to shoot someone by mistake.
11. Suspected of murder? He should be made Prime Minister.
Peter   (06.21.13)
12. No2 mentally disables
(06.21.13)
Maybe we should put down every person who are mentally disabled cause we never know! They put our lives in danger don't they?
13. Kotel security screen check for weapons
David ,   Shiloh Israel   (06.21.13)
It's impossible to pre-judge this case without knowing all the facts. Even then, that's a job for the law to do. However, a simple observation comes to mind. There is a careful double screening process entering close to the Kotel. The first one checks for any sign of weapons, and the second one that involves visually checking visitors, is located before the male restrooms.
14. why so many bullets? simple
Larry ,   LA   (06.21.13)
When you are dealing with a terrorist as this guard thought, you don't shoot one bullet and wait a few moments to see if he pulls out a gun, bomb or knife. You shoot and keep shooting until he is lifeless. The guard made a mistake, but the victim was foolish and gave good reason to suspect that he was an Arab terrorist. If he were not stupid. he would be alive. The guard deserves to be set free and if it were not so tragic, he should be accorded honors for stopping a terrorist attack,.. except it wasn't. very sad...
15. 10 bullets!
david ,   jerusalem israel   (06.21.13)
10 bullets in the chest??!!! The victim was a crazy homeless dude. Jerusalem is full of them. This is murder.
16. Lessons learned the hard way
yosef eytan ,   Eilat, Israel   (06.21.13)
Don't shout 'fire' for fun in a crowed theater and don't shout ‘Allahu Akbar’ in a group of Jews in Israel. You don't shoot a potential terrorist in the leg when he might have a detonator trigger in his hand, you keep shooting till he ceases all movement. Let's not be too quick to judge this man.
17. unfortunate.....
alsky ,   Toronto   (06.21.13)
but the guard did what he was trained to do. We will have to see the facts but as it stands now, he did nothing wrong.
18. "Suspect" is very much....
Gideon Reader   (06.21.13)
...smarter than the establishment police investigators. Involved in a personal and public tradgedy, his silence speaks volumes about his circumspection and intelligence. He will let his legal counsel do the job he or she has been trained to do without initial contamination of blurted and or implied coercion from the police authorities. Silence is usually golden. In this case it is encrusted with large perfect diamonds. Good luck to you son.
19. the guard could not appreciate ironic humour.
ruth ,   london england   (06.21.13)
20. Phone records will divulge the truth
Avi Yisraeli ,   Tel-Aviv   (06.21.13)
Cell-phone records will tell the rest of the story. They probably already did and that's why the guard is under arrest. Really, if you suspected someone might have an explosive device on them, would you shoot them 10 times in the chest with the last 3 shots from a distance of only 1 meter?
21. The guard did the right thing
Commentator   (06.21.13)
What if it was a real terrorist instead? He did the right thing by not taking any chances. Besides, the man who was shot did look like an Arab. Sometimes I have a hard time seeing difference between Mizrahi/Sephardi Jews and Arabs. They look the same.
22. Honest mistake
Justjams ,   Jerusalem   (06.21.13)
He should be set free because he thought the man he murdered was an Arab terrorist? Doesnt change the fact! Murder is murder. If an arab killed a jew yelling "death to arabs" would that be ok?
23. #3
Eaglebeak ,   Left Coast, USA   (06.21.13)
Did the Fogel family have warning? Did the children on the school bus have warning?
24. AT Nr. 16
Kolboynik ,   Baltimore   (06.21.13)
The guard did his job. The victim was Dafuk. I know how hard security job is. Maybe they shouldnt let the dfukim roam around the Kotel area? -- BTW: How is Eilat nowadays? Used to live there!
25. Shoot the air 1st? In that time a terrorist can...
Sue ,   Los Angeles   (06.21.13)
detonate his/her explosive or pull out a weapon and start shooting. The guard saw a man acting nervously and shouting "Allahu akbar." The guard's response was correct (although it's unfortunate the man was mentally ill). And how is it that the man's family "never had to go through a security check?" Everyone must be checked daily, regardless how well the staff "knows" them. There is only 1 Kotel.
26. Detonator/knife/gun
Az   (06.22.13)
For a moment disregarding the SCREENING AREA that any Israeli who has been to that place knows is there: Detonator: Then why would he be in the blast zone yelling "Allah akbar" instead of at a safe distance watching the carnage? The actual terrorists probably don't bother yelling anything these days. Knife: Then why shoot at him when a hearty kick would do the trick? I thought he served in the IDF? Gun: Guns are usually clearly identifiable items that you can tell from knives, handkerchiefs, and cell phones. Maybe he left his glasses at home? The man's stoic (I assume) silence on his actions is telling. People who kill by accident usually want to somehow justify their actions and explain. And then there's how he served with distinction in the IDF. Then how is his being a new security guard an excuse? And the poor shooting? Something does not add up here. Finally, what's with all the talkbacks that go something like either: "This man was doing his job properly don't even think about questioning it" or "This is just an example of what terrible people the Israeli Zionist Jews are you should stop killing Arabs?" Use your head.
27. What if...
Mike   (06.22.13)
Obviously, pertinent facts still need to surface, but ill continue the string of speculation. What if the deceased committed an act of suicide. By accounts, the victim was pious but homeless. Maybe he wanted to end his life, but couldn't do it himself, instead forcing a security guard at the holiest site in the world to do what he couldn't.
28. remember Woolwich, London
gordon ,   Le Touquet France   (06.22.13)
Of course he was trained to react to such chant "Allahu Akbar". Remember folks the two terrorists in Woolwich, London in May chanted the same while beheding the poor unarmed British soldier's head off in a public street. He is a hero in my books.
29. To: ALL WHAT IF......?
Gideon Reader   (06.22.13)
What if...? The deceased in this tragic situation was in fact, a hostile and terroristically, criminally intent person, who had both acess and explosives on his person. What if that same person was politically motivated and not a disturbed or ill person; who had a cell phone or remote detonator that he was about to trigger as he called Allah huAkbar? What if the person charged shot him in the foot and the suspect set off the bomb and killed and inhured many. What if the guard shot him six times and he still set off the explosives? What if....???? You did not see what the guard saw or believed he was experiencing. It is occasionally better to wait for the results of an investigation before hanging the suspect of the alleged wringdoing.
30. That's a nice shirt the guy chose for court
Az   (06.24.13)
Guess he decided he'd impress the judge with his button-up tee. Strange choice of attire for a native.
