1. Although DST is supposed to save energy
Peter   (06.23.13)
some studies have proven that switching to DST has consumers using more power and paying bigger electric bills. But as the saying goes, one fool follows the other. After all, Israel is trying hard to be like the rest of the world, even if it doesn't make sense.
2. Great News!
Madeleine ,   Israel   (06.23.13)
this brings us in line with Britain and Europe, who also extend DST until the end of October. And finally, we are out of the clutches on this score. If we were to go by the dictates of the religious lot, then this year summertime would end before mid-September!
3. Light
Sagi   (06.23.13)
for the enlightened, those who wish to remain in darkness can do so, black "uniforms" and black days are symptoms and manifestations of minds which remain in the dark ages.
4. Time
Miriam ,   Israel   (06.23.13)
Terrible idea! Do not play with the clock. Leave winter time all year round.
5. What light? In October it will be dark
aliza ,   Israel   (06.23.13)
at 7am. For those who are pro extension of DST and argue that there will be less traffic accidents in the evening. So we will have more traffic accidents going to work in the morning? And Israel is not Europe or the UK. If we follow the model of other "hot" countries like Australia (Sydney has DST from 1st Sunday in Oct. to 1st Sunday in April. DST in Israel will end in August.
6. Judging by these talkbacks, have any of you been to Israel?
Larry ,   Or Yehuda   (06.23.13)
If you had, you would not be talking nonsense. Darkness at 7am? Come on.
7. Great
Moshe ,   Jerusalem   (06.23.13)
So silly everyone is crying about this for one reason or another. If its not because Yom Kippur will end 'a whole HOUR' later as if it will now be 26 instead of 25 hours... then you have Aliza who smartly says it will be dark at 7am as opposed to at 5pm whats your point? And is there a concise study that shows that traffic accidents on any given stretch of road when measured by volume of cars happen more when its dark in the morning as opposed to when its dark in the early evening? Most accidents are caused by people not paying attention or not following the rules of the road, driving too fast (hard to do during rush hour) etc. etc. If anything when its darker in the early evening I would expect that more accidents would occur as people on the way home from work are tired and usually in a rush to go home.
8. The Yeshivot can carry on their own time zone
Lublinov ,   Eilat   (06.23.13)
yes, haredim can live in the dark if they wish to. Their Yeshivot can keep a winter clock all year so long it helps than to pray, fast and parasite of the rest of us.
9. doesn't even mention haredim
Zvi ,   Jerusalem, Israel   (06.23.13)
Why the hate? Where does this article mention haredim anywhere? Lublinov, you have some soul-searching to do - get the hate out, it has no place anywhere.
10. Moshe, it seems you are right
aliza ,   Israel   (06.23.13)
Statistics show more road accidents happen when people are on the way home. As sunset in Oct is around 18:00 with DST the time most workers go home extending DST into October is of little help.
11. why not all year long
ecr   (06.23.13)
and then you guys can really think you are G-d.
12. #11 ecr
solomon ,   bklyn   (06.23.13)
Such knee-jerk hate demonstrates a closed mind; one that is scared to be proven wrong. Pity.
13. Larry do YOU live in Israel?
aliza ,   Israel   (06.23.13)
In Mid October with extended DST the sunrise is close to 7am. My point is what these left wing moron politicians won't admit Israel is NOT Europe. In Europe they don't even call it DST but Summertime. Why save daylight when with the extra hour they have daylight from 6am to 10pm. And with the summertime until late October the sunsets at 730 pm. In Israel 630 pm so what is the big deal, most people after a long hot summer welcome the early darkness. Aussies are smart (their sunset/sunrise are same as Israel) and they realize this .
14. daylight savings
Joe Charlaff ,   Jerusalem   (06.23.13)
Finally light has triumphed over darkness. Kol Hakavod to Gideon Saar for taking the initiative to extend dst and boos to Eli Yishai for costing the country an extra NIS 300 million every year. He should be made to pay it back to the country. Good riddance!!
15. Save time? Don't try to live for ever..
ORA ,   JERUSALEM   (06.23.13)
You will not succeed.
16. 14 300m.? References please.
ORA ,   JERUSALEM   (06.23.13)
17. Aliza your argument is floored
Simon ,   Tel Aviv   (06.24.13)
Aliza, your argument is nonsense- in Sydney at the end of DST sunrise is at 7:10am. In Israel at the end of October with DST sunrise will be at 6:55am. Finally Israel has a government of normal people who do not bring religeon into civil matters such as DST. Next stop civil marriage, shabbat public transport and Sat/Sun weekends
18. #17, Simon. Why floored Syd/Israel will wake in darkness
aliza ,   Israel   (06.26.13)
so what is the point of DST when the sun sets at 18:00 in Israel in October. The left wing morons may have one in the DST issue and bit of their noses to spite their faces becuse extended DST is a useless non issue but for the other issues don't hold your breathe haha
19. Finally the ability to take measurments
Dan ,   K"S   (09.21.13)
As long as the DST ended during the holidays, an accurate measure in the difference of electricity was impossible. This year there will be a chance to measure a savings or as I believe a waste by moving the clocks.
