END WARS !!!!
2. rape in war
israel israeli ,   tel aviv   (06.25.13)
Rape is considered an integral part of warfare in some cultures, as we see in Lebanon, Syria and Iraq. Calling for an end to rape in war is like calling for an end to shooting: a noble sentiment but misses the point. But is rape so bad? A few years ago a "professor" at the Hebrew University in Jerusalem found that IDF soldiers never rape Arab women. The "professor" concluded that this was proof that Israelis are racists.
3. Where there is evil and war, there is rape - it
Barbara ,   Haifa Israel   (06.25.13)
is a power and control factor for evil. Does anyone believe that if rape during war became a criminal offense, that the act of rape would be obliterated? Get real !
4. How could the UN not have known these things?
Devorah   (06.25.13)
Why does it take Angelina Jolie to get a resolution passed that should have been in effect decades ago? This is an outrage. And it is typical UN theatre.
5. #4 Devtah: The UN? The answer is simple!
Dee Bee ,   Israel   (06.25.13)
If they cant's condemn Israel for something then the UN isn't interested in anything else except to line their own pockets and kowtowing to the Arab countries which regard women as chattels ans subscribe to the dictum in the Koran that instructs men to beat their wives on a regular basis! As for rape, well it is a plague all over the world. In so many cases, including cases in Israel, women are "at fault" or, as a former Israeli judge said, "want to be raped". Until the law starts recognizing that rape is murder but the victim lives, rape will continue and Jolies"s campaign, while admirable, will be filed in the archives of the UN, never to be seen again!

Boy oh boy, you hit that nail on the head, and so did Barbara (#3).
7. to #2.

Apart from the fact that I don't see why an actress should adress the UN security council, I surely hope you are kidding about the last part of your statement. And please don't tell me said scholar was Jewish although by now I wouldn't be surprised anymore.
8. 1Right.Ending rape &war as utopic

9. Unintended consequence
John ,   NY USA   (06.25.13)
It would be a tragedy that making an effort to prosecute rapists, could give the rapist an incentive to eliminate the witnesses.
