1. From what you write
Sane   (06.26.13)
It sounds like a lot of people complaining. This does not turn into harassment unless it is the same individual complaining again and again- i.e. if 1000 people complain to Ynet that is not harassment, but one person complaining 1000 times (on the same issue) it is.
2. Ayatolla Supreme Leader Yusuf the real agenda
Haim ,   TA   (06.26.13)
The unmitigated arrogance of Ovadia Yosef only serves to drive a further wedge between people raised secular who may have a small spark of interest in religion. This man, this so called "rabbi" is a bloated goat whom G-d will profoundly punish. His service is to his cult followers the weak and vulnerable members of society who bleat at his side, kissing his hand only to further bloat his twisted ego. His ignorance of how he appears to the world and how he represents Judaism to the world, who like all other cult figures before him actually is only concerned about the power and the money , which 7 convicted and jailed Shas MKs on charges of serious fraud and corruption go's to prove. This man is a grave sinner and a fraudulent representative anything and everything holy. He is a criminal that wraps himself in religious garb of the most flamboyant nature yet flaunts the very basic laws he claims to represent. Fundamentalist cults such as Shas are afraid of what their followers might learn, or learn to think for themselves. This is a threat to his leadership when his main objective in life is holding onto power and influence over their followers
3. It's time this senile guy retires
Charles ,   Petach Tikva   (06.26.13)
He shows us the "nice" side of religion . And this guy is venered ? Those who do it must not be Jews , because for some racist Jews , Jews have brains .
4. #2 Ditto..couldnt have said it better myself
Al   (06.26.13)
I was raised orthodox..today I couldn't care less. By the way both my sons are very frum. I respect them for that as they have and are serving in the IDF.

Thinking Jew ,   Israel   (06.26.13)
6. This Ayatollah Rebbe is simply that ..
Al   (06.26.13)
We survived 2000 years of hell to have this POW shown up as a 'leader'. Geez..we are a beaten people. Its time we Jews told these self anointed scholars that they don't know shit and they are not our leaders.
7. David Stav is the problem, not what R. Yosef said
Baruch ,   Boston, USA   (06.26.13)
R. Yosef used rash terms reflecting his fear of having a person like David Stav running the Orthodox community. But his fear is justified.

10. We just read Parshat Korach. Stav is a Korach.
Baruch ,   Boston, USA   (06.26.13)
His ego is getting the better of him, and he wants the Kahunah.
11. 9 Practice what you preach.

12. Rabbi Yosef says it as it is. Obviously the truth hurts.
Dov   (06.26.13)
Rabbi Yosef shlit"a is a true leader. May he merit living together with Moshiach tzidkenu bimhera veyamenu amen.
13. #1: don't be so sure
tom ,   toronto, canada   (06.26.13)
i doubt that shas has thousands of "volunteer" thugs, although it is possible. (they have plenty of yeshiva students on their roster, even if some of them are fictitious, "for tax purposes only".) but the question remains whether a person private phone number should be used for unwelcome communications, particularly if it was made public for no other reason than to harass. i would not appreciate being the target of such a campaign, and neither would you.
14. boom, you're texted!! muhahaha
subtext   (06.26.13)
15. #10: are you sure?
tom ,   toronto, canada   (06.26.13)
first of all, we just read parshat balak, but it would be unfair to compare anyone to a talking donkey. but balak should remind us not to speak badly about am yisrael, and rabbi ovadia yosef has been saying things, that even if true, should not be said, and certainly not by a chief rabbi of israel. the rabbi's health might be helped if he refrained from lashon hara.
16. 7 Baruch Running the orthodox community?
robert ,   antwerp belgium   (06.26.13)
It's not about running the orthodox community where no other rule than their own is acceptable. It's about the relationship between the Rabinate of Israël and the people of Israël where only a minority is ultra orthodox
17. #15, #16
Baruch ,   Boston, USA   (06.26.13)
Tom, I know where we are in the readings. "just" means very recently. It's not lashon hara. It has an important purpose, to protect Judaism from revisionists like Stav. He's leading his Judaism in the same direction as Conservative and Reform. Just not there yet. robert, sorry, no other form of Judaism is acceptable as adhering to Torah without changing it for convenience. Stav is changing it for convenience, as have other streams. Only a minority is "ultra orthodox" if you mean adhering to Torah. But, hopefully, more Jews will understand what Torah means. We aren't perfect, for sure including myself, but we can't lose sight of the goal by bringing in religious leaders who tell us that black is what and falsehood is truth
18. 17 Rav Stav is not trying to...
robert ,   antwerp belgium   (06.27.13)
change the way the laws in the Tora are applied. He is trying to repair the damage that haredi Rabbis have done to the relationship between orthodoxy and mainstream Israëli population. The main reason why orthodox Rabbis are against Rav Stav is because he is a National orthodox Rabbi and doesn't belong to their club, which might also be bad for their business (cachrout certificates and so on)
19. 18Robert,your comments are fine...
ORA ,   JERUSALEM   (06.27.13)
but would be even better if you stay to facts and don't presume bad intentions to Rabbis
20. #18, same argument used by Conservative and Reform
Baruch ,   Boston, USA   (06.27.13)
robert, I watched it go down slowly over the years with the Conservative movement here. Ask any Conservative rabbi, and they'll tell you what they do is totally according to halacha and that they want a better opportunity for "mainstream" Jews to participate. It's now a completely different religion that uses the same symbols, and is very deceptive because of it. The bottom line is that the "mainstream" has difficulty when rabbis actually ask you to adhere to Torah, the foundation of Judaism.
21. 19-20 U call their changes reforms; ur changes fences
Israeili Jew ,   Israel   (06.27.13)
changes is changes Get a history book and study it Haredim are no closer to Har Sinai than many Christians Ur just stuck in 16th century and they are not
22. 21 You can't pretend to see..
ORA ,   JERUSALEM   (06.27.13)
all the nuances without studying more deeply the matter.
23. 22 Let's hear some "nuances" instead of empty claims
Israeili Jew ,   Israel   (06.27.13)
I've never seen any great "nuance" from any rabbi so far. So back up your empty words.
24. 22 Ora - The truth of the matter is that
Israeili Jew ,   Israel   (06.27.13)
the only ones who think the Haredim rabbis are so clever are the same ignorant Haredim who are treated like mushrooms -- kept in the dark and covered in BS. If these rabbis had anything "nuance" to say there are countless scholars who would take notice. The fact is, they are superficial and intellectually shallow. "Deep" is in the eye of the dumb-ass choir they preach to.
25. 19 Ora. The facts are there...
robert ,   antwerp belgium   (06.28.13)
when you see that because one Gadol ha tora tried to destroy the reputation of Rav Stav, he had to suffer at a wedding where he was a guest (Rav Stav). that's why I feel that politics should belong to "professional" politicians, from orthodox to non orthodox and that Rabbis would be better off if they remain in the sphere of halacha and spiritual guidance
26. I change my mind about this "gadol"
Charles ,   Petach Tikva   (06.29.13)
Let him talk as much he wants , so more and more SANE Israelis will distance themselve from religion . He at least shows a true face of religion , intolerrant and hatefull .
27. 25 Robert,you would change your ...
ORA ,   JERUSALEM   (06.29.13)
mind,if Rav David Grossman would accept to be the Grand Rabbi of Israel.
28. Israel needs a Rabbi that is ...
ORA ,   JERUSALEM   (06.29.13)
respected by Atheist Secular Jews and of course Haredim ; who is able to show the true face of religion ,charitable and loving . And mainly to reconcile the different societies ,to achieve Shalom.
29. 23 No nuances needed to tell you...
ORA ,   JERUSALEM   (06.29.13)
that your hate is not only a danger to Israel but to the world too..
30. 29 Add.And in the first place...
ORA ,   JERUSALEM   (06.29.13)
hate is a danger to you, harming your mind.Hence your weak logic. Strengthen or taking away fences are same changes, nevertheless the consequences are opposite?Come on.
