Talkbacks Israel Shipyards signs NIS 1B contract

This contract is good news for the shipyards but does not address the needs of the navy. The navy are retiring ship and others are apporaching the end of their service life, even the 3 SAAR 5 class which are the modern ships in the navy are now 20 years old. The navy is being asked to play a bigger role all the time but the government doesn't want to invest any money despite the fact the number of ships is sinking fast. First the government wanted to buy the US littoral combat ship but that was to expensive sop it fell through. Then they wanted German stealthy corvettes but an arab firm bought the cpompany so was decided to ditch that. After that they planned to build a very old design of German boats under licence in Israel but that didn't happen Then there was a plan to build a stretched SAAR 5 at Israel shipyards and export it to other countries. Money but it was never given so that idea fell through and now there are just no plans to get needed news ships because the government is not willing to spend the money on the navy as usual and n time of budget cuts they don't have a chance in hell of getting new boats. We get the subs which are mostly paid for by the German government and nobody thinks about the less glamerous surface fleet.
