1. Solve your own difficult problems
Logic ,   Israel   (06.28.13)
How shall I put it gently? Everything the Western international community touches turns to lead, whether it be the Oslo Accords, the Iraq mess, or the UN resolutions that put in peace keepers who turn tail at the first sign of trouble. You're not going to cajole, push, or manipulate this country into oblivion just because your foreign office has appeasement as the top priority. Goodbye!
2. I Presume UK Minister Means Terrorstinians
emanon ,   USA   (06.28.13)
It is the Terrorstinians that are illegally occupying the land in Israel. Unless, of course, the Brits are still upset about the sun setting on the Kingdom and the loss of Israel as an outpost to their empire. That is the only time the land was generally referred to as Palestine. To those that matter, and really know, the land has always been known as Israel, the Jewish Homeland.
3. Most of the people, as the author, do not understand that
Gabor ,   Budapest, Hungary   (06.28.13)
it is not 1948, 1967 or 2000 and reality has changed. Israel cannot withdraw fully from Judea and Samaria, and Area C must remain under full Israeli control. Abbas, Qurei, Erekat and the rest of the PA leadership will reject any offer that does not include full withdrawal from Judea, Samaria and East-Jerusalem, while Israel will never accept the right of return. And if we look at the trends and rise of extremism, an Israeli withdrawal from Area A and B might easily result in a Palestinian Arab Spring which, let's face it, would bring Hamas to power. So, to make it clear: a peace agreement is not possible today.
4. memories of Op. Pillar of Defense
elke ,   usa   (06.28.13)
I'm certain that Palestinian memories are even more awful...with 33 children killed. That's in addition to 105 adults killed and nearly 1,000 seriously injured. Israel's security? They have homemade rockets, you have sophisticated war planes, drones, bombs, white phosphorus, and the largest standing army in the Middle East. Not exactly an even fight.
5. With friends like you...
Igor ,   Germany   (06.28.13)
Mr. Ambassador, you know (or should know) as well as I that Arabs (and Muslims in general) are not willing to accept a Jewish state, most of all not in its ancient homeland. Your country, after receiving the mandate to establish a Jewish national home in Eretz Israel ("Palestine", as you called it) did everything in its might to prevent its establishment. It was your country that ceded the Golan Heights to Syria (via France) and it was your country that put Arabs in control of Judea, Samaria, and the Old City of Jerusalem. Without your country's White Book, hundreds of thousands, if not millions of Jews could have been saved during the WW2. Israel is well advised not to listen to your advice.
6. "After the experience of leaving Gaza...."
Arn ,   Yehud, Israel   (06.28.13)
And how far has your trust of these people made life in England a safer place? 'Nuff said.
7. One of the most reasonable and logical talks from a Brit
Carl ,   USA   (06.28.13)
Now are they willing to pressure the Palestinians to stop terror and commit to a real peace, a peace that is not just a stepping-stone to an ultimate goal of dismembering Israel? There can be no guarantees, but Israel needs more certainty than merely to "believe... it will find a peaceful neighbor." That's what they believed when turning over Gaza. This is far more existential for Israel than Peter Pan.
8. same lies as Oslo, Gaza..
eddie ,   London UK   (06.28.13)
Mr Gould is just recycling the lies told by Rabin, Peres, Olmert and Sharon. The same lies were told before Oslo, and Rabin promised peace, but a bloody war of terror started as soon as the ink was drying from the agreement he signed. Peres fared no better. Then Bibib signed the wye accords, but this did not bring peace. Sharon ended the occupation of gaza, and it was expected that the PA would make peace, but the opposite happened. the hamas slaugthered PA and commenced the missile attacks on israel. One has only to look around to see Syria, Egypt, Libya, to get an idea of what a palestinian state will look like. Bibi lamented how Olmert/Sharon brought Iran to gaza, yet a west bank deal will only achieve the same there.
9. Blood near baby's cot
George Weiss ,   Teaneck, USA   (06.28.13)
It is very easy for mr. gould to tell israeli's to take chances for peace since he will go back to the UK. he and his family will not have to face the consequesnces of this action. He is in essence suggesting that Israel commit suicide.
10. The British
Bill Stein ,   USA   (06.28.13)
Who cares what the British thinks all they have done is funded peace now and other anti Israel NGO's and tried to weaken Israel. So why do I care what they think. Israelis will never allow Israel to go back to the 67 borders with millions of Palestinians within walking distance of Tel Aviv and the Mediterranean Sea. Demographics will destroy Israel in 5 years. No more compromise. ANNEX AREA C
11. What Peace with Egypt
Bill Stein ,   USA   (06.28.13)
Same words different actors same BS as 30 years ago. There is no real peace with Egypt and now they are Hostile so what did it gain. I would now have rather kept Sinai
12. Blood ! !
moshe ,   Tivon, Israel   (06.28.13)
Ambassador Gould has good intentions. Israelis are wary of the surrounding chaos fomented by Arab discontent with the dictatorial Arab "countries" of the Middle East. Perhaps when the Arab world settles its religious differences; when the minority of decent, educated Arab people have some say in how their country is governed; perhaps then Israelis be willing to gamble. It seems as if it will take a generation , 20 years, before the Arab world will stabilize to something that Israelis can gamble on. Until then the Arab population of Israel has a golden opportunity to make peace with Israel and Zionsim. It will be difficult but it is possible. moshe
13. British Ambassador
graczek ,   Maryland, USA   (06.28.13)
A man of good will but wrong on this one. There will be no peace until the illegitimate Zionist state ceases to exist. Its current existence flouts the Divine Will and Decree.
14. Just what we need
Gee ,   Zikron Yaakov   (06.28.13)
Another foreigner willing to bet our lives on his opinion. We have a better idea. Until the Arabs prove that they can be peaceful - they get nothing at all. They are the ones that need to show us that they can be trusted. They are the ones that want something - we already have it so we do not want from them.
15. Dear Ambassador
Abraham Nachmias ,   Petach Tikva IL   (06.28.13)
It´s not only that you ignore that the only one who is asked to make concessions is Israel (arabs plainly say they want 100% and wont compromise) but there are 2 very important points that are fundamental when commenting your analysis 1) You will be out of Israel in a year or two 2) You don´t understand (or better said don´t want to understand) that this land is ours however your country did her best to avoid us having Eretz Israel. So please, keep yourself to your duty and don´t try to mess with our internal politics!!!
16. Sensible idea
Daniel   (06.28.13)
We left Gaza and now we are best of friends. Surely if we leave Judea and Shomron, the peace will ensue. Its not like they will start launching missiles at us, right? I mean what can possibly go wrong?
17. Peace
chanawashdc ,   Washington DC   (06.28.13)
Ambassador Gold mischaracterizes the Peace Treaty with Egypt. Israel could feel confident about moving forward with that because Anwar Sadat took the first step to reach that peace. Both sides knew the risks, politically and to his own security, that he face. Can the Ambassador name one Palestinian leader who has done the same thing? To the contrary, from Arafat on down, one of the main excuses for not making the hard decisions was that it would cost the PA leadership support.
18. Blood near baby's cot/ Gould.
Lazerbenabba ,   London, England   (06.28.13)
Perhaps the most telling comment from Gould is that Israel expects/wants perfect security. If this the best that the UK can provide as a diplomat to Israel then we have a problem. Israel, if anything is pragmatic and knows there is never a perfect answer to most situations least of all its security viz a viz theArab/Palestinians. However in the past 65 years, where has there been one example of genuine understanding by the Arabs of Israel's security concerns. Oh yes I forgot, Egypt's Sadat but he was assassinated for his bravery. There has to be a first step by the Arabs to a practical rapprochment then perhaps there will be a positive reaction from Israel after all there has been so many already without reciprocation.
19. With respect Sir,
BUILD BABY BUILD!!!! ,   United States   (06.28.13)
Perhaps you Brits should have a pal state along side you for the pals? Their representatives bloody hands after beheading an off duty UK soldier requires your attention at home now, must make them happy, right? Britain the newest muslim outpost. Some old sage advice for you.... "Better to remain silent and thought a fool than to speak and remove all doubt." KEEP BUILDING !!!
20. Londonistanians are the last to give advice to us,thank you.

21. Wouldn't mind giving up "your ancestral" Malvinas Island
2Mad ,   גולה בצרפת   (06.28.13)
...before adressing your "pisch" lessons to others ?
22. Sounds familiar
Avi Yisraeli ,   Tel Aviv   (06.28.13)
"when occupation ends it will find a peaceful neighbor in West Bank". I seem to recall that's what the international community (and our own corrupt leaders) told us regarding Gaza back in 2005. They also told us that the Oslo accords would bring us Peace. Instead, it brought us more than 1200 dead and some 10,000 injured Israelis. Before that, it was the promise of daily tourist buses to Beirut and Damascus, compensation for the 850,000 North African Jews who were forced to abandon their homes and property and economic equality for all. My gut feeling is to stay with the not so perfect peace over self assured destruction.
23. Three answers
Igor ,   Germany   (06.28.13)
1. No-one expects any solution to last forever. But Israel is right to expect a solution to hold longer than its forces are able to provide for security. Does anyone believe Israel would have been worse off if it stayed in Gaza or South Lebanon? 2. No-one expects a perfect security. But Israel is right to expect the security to improve, not deteriorate, with signing a peace deal. Does anyone believe Israel's security improved by signing the Oslo Accords? 3. No-one knows how the situation will develop in Judea and Samaria, with or without a peace deal. But, if it deteriorates, Israel would be better off if it had boots on the ground and a disorganized and ill-equipped enemy than well-trained and armed forces.
24. If this fails is it OK to drop bombs on London
Mordechai   (06.28.13)
How about you agree Israel can bomb London and other cities in the UK in retaliation for terrorist attacks if the peace process leads to Jews dying in Israel. Are your citizens willing to take risks for peace? Are you so willing to take a risk to put your family's life on the line. I doubt it.
25. Islam has bloody borders....
alsky ,   Toronto   (06.28.13)
there can never be peace until Islam reforms and accepts Israel as the Homeland of the Jews.
26. Fantasy vs. reality
israel israeli ,   tel aviv   (06.28.13)
Gould is just showing British racism, arrogance and neocolonialism. Hamas is democratically supported by 81% of the Arabs. Hamas rejects the existence of Israel. The constitution of Fatah/PLO rejects any coexistence with Israel. How can Mr. Gould fantasize about peace when it is currently illegal for any Arab leader to compromise with Israel? Where does he get the gall to be so condescending? Perhaps Gould can stop being a racist and respect the Arabs and their choices? Perhaps Gould should treat them like adults, not children and convince PLO to change their constitution? Once he has achieved that, perhaps Mr. Gould can convince the Arabs to vote for Fatah instead of Hamas?
27. And"occupation ends"when Jews live all over the
Moshe ,   Usa   (06.28.13)
west of the Jordan River & then, if no arobs live in Israel, then peace will have been achieved. Until then, there will be no piece with arobs. Remember, the root of the Hebrew word "Shalom" is peace. The root of the arobic word "shalam" is break . . . as in the sense of taking a break from work. And the work of the arob is to dominate the world with islooomic imperialism.
28. Drummer Lee Rigby (RIP)
Beer ,   Germany   (06.28.13)
"There is no such thing as perfect security", say ambassador. He knows what he's talking about. Jack the Ripper has never dreamed of Londonistan of 21st century.
29. Sad truth about British policies...
Rabbi Gedalia ,   Jerusalem, Israel   (06.28.13)
In Warsaw Ghetto, blazing guns We took heroic stand And than we kicked the British out Of Our Holy Land!
30. 22 Avi 100% correct
