You don't just suddenly "need an organ" while visiting somewhere. If she "needed an organ" while visiting America, she would not have made it onto the organ recipeint lists there, either. If anyone is ill enough to quailfy to receive an organ, he certainly wouldn't be traveling. But your point, that not enough Israelis are organ donors, might begin to change, after more and more Israelis see how much good is done by organ donation, such as in cases like this one

One can absolutely suddenly need an organ after an accident. My point was that Canada and the United States allow for organ transplants to be given to tourists. Israel does not. I have been a student in Israel for 4 years. If I need an organ, under the law, I cannot get one here. This makes me willing to donate in the US and Canada, but I would not become an organ donor here.
9. To # 1 You must be joking!
Stan ,   Israel   (06.30.13)
Ha Shem had nothing to do with it ! Israeli Orthodox Rabbis do not recognise "brain dead" and as such religious Jews do not donate organs (except for very few exceptions) and that is why the percentage of orgon doners in Israel is the lowest in the enlightened world. The worst thing is that if a rabbi does agree to orgons being donated, it's on condition that ONLY JEWS CAN RECEIVE THEM !!!!!!!
10. #8 If you need an organ, deal with a rabbi

Organ tourism is banned in Israel not organ transplants for tourists. Perhaps you can cite a specific case in Israel where an accident victim required an immediate organ transplant and was denied the procedure? Also what law are you referring to?

Cassandra ,   Israel   (06.30.13)
So you would waste your organs and punish a dying person after your death instead of working on changing this law? Sounds ridiculous to me.
13. Condolences to this lady's family
R ,   Israel   (06.30.13)
Thank you for saving lives. I hope you will have the opportunity to visit the grave of your relative. Thank you again.
14. #9 Not only does Orthodox Judaism support organ donation
jrebecca ,   modiin   (06.30.13)
But there is an organ donation society specifically for orthodox Jews who want to have a Rabbi ok their specific case, making it easier to become a donor.
