31. youre trashing principle of freedom
analytic observer ,   chicago,ill   (07.01.13)
If jews fo rjesus made these kinds of demands it would be still clearer .Reform and conservative are NOT components of torah religion--they played NO ROLE in the temple and have no right to sabotage its customs and traditions.Religious freedom in the american sense means just that The torah community absolute;y has op obligation to genuflect to groups that are out to undermine it.
32. 30 You mean Tora + Hafetz Chaim, contradicting science
Cyberbrain ,   Israel   (07.01.13)
Science implies scientific thinking = mathematically precise logic. When you throw that out, trumping it with Chofetz Chaim or any other medieval bigwig you think is infallible, whenever science threatens you, that is NOT Tora + science. It is Torah + an illusion of science -- a deception. Haredi Medievalism cannot be made compatible with science. Was Hashem Medieval or OmniSCIENT Creator? They are contradictory. You can only serve one.
33. 32 Cyberbrain,here Einstein's words...
ORA ,   JERUSALEM   (07.02.13)
"The intuitive mind is a sacred gift and the rational mind is a faithful servant. We have created a society that honors the servant and has forgotten the gift,"
34. 33 Yes, too bad you don't comprehend Einstein's words
Cyberbrain ,   Israel   (07.02.13)
Exactly the opposite of your misunderstanding. The intuitive mind cannot be contradictory to the rational mind or the result, as in your case and that of the Herodim, total cognitive dissonance. As Einstein's "faithful servant," it is the rational mind--NOT an irrational mysticism, which Einstein (and Rambam) flatly rejected--that is the only path leading to the "intuitive mind." You and the Herodim are no more headed in the right direction toward Einstein's "intuitive mind" than you are toward Torah. Einstein and Rambam were spiritually ("intuitively") in tune with Torah; quite the opposite of you and your Herodim.
35. 34 Cyberbrain, Who is the judge?
ORA ,   JERUSALEM   (07.02.13)
Men sacrifice truth to his advantage. When we believe something,we see all the arguments in favor of it,and are blind to arguments against it.
36. Cyberbrain, I like your way of thinking
Sharon   (07.02.13)
I believe that there is great spiritual truth in Kaballah and that it is worthy of studying and understanding the spiritual realms beyond (at this point) the reach of science. At the same time Einstein's approach as well as the Rambam's intellectual approach have equal merit and an equal place with Mysticism. They may be incompatible but they coexist. The Haredim have a problem with allowing both to exist and so do the rationalists. I believe there is room for both despite their being incompatible.
37. 35 the judge is embedded in Creator's work
Cyberbrain ,   Israel   (07.02.13)
Infallible logic. Not you. Not me. Not the rabbis. All of these ARE subordinate to logic. Those who presume to be authority above logic preempt Hashem, which constitutes idolatry. We are fallible in discerning it. Some of us are better than others (largely because we've made the effort to pursue it and educate ourselves). The worthiness of any shepherd is indicated by his or her (!) competence in applying logic to interpret halakha. But the Judge is Infallible Logic (metonym for Hashem, the Singularity Creator. Turn to it and allow it to guide you toward Torah -- in Truth rather than continued straying in idolatrous fables.
38. 37 Creator's logic is indeed infaillible
ORA ,   JERUSALEM   (07.02.13)
but men's logic is limited and unreliable.
39. Cyberbrain
Sharon   (07.02.13)
Powerful insight, but when you use the word logic you may confuse believers. Those that operate not on logic but more on faith without having to or wanting to understand logic are put off by the word. I agree with everything you are saying. But the common faithful Jew really does not study logic when it comes to faith. Infallible logic may be used to apply to all of the Mitzvot, restrictions, halachot, everything. Scientific logic as it is practiced cannot..
40. 38 we're really very close to agreement
Cyberbrain ,   Israel   (07.02.13)
I understand what you mean, and agree, but there is no such thing as "men's logic." There is, rather, men's varying abilities in understanding logic, which is a function of the abilities granted him or her by Hashem plus the education one has achieved and the doors and opportunities to which Hashem has also provided; no different than other areas of science.
41. Good exchange..
Droro ,   Haifai, Israel   (07.02.13)
If more people took the time to understand that the Jewish faith is compatible with infallible logic, life would be so much easier for everyone. The haredim have their reasons to reject the concept, seculars have their reasons to reject the concept. It is sad because it would be so much easier to find common ground if people took more time to make the connections.
42. 40 Cyberbrain, If i understand well ...
ORA ,   JERUSALEM   (07.02.13)
you believe in Hashem, hence we have a common language. I have to think about your surprising and most interesting allegation,"there is no men's logic",. We 'll stay in touch,i hope.I enjoyed debating with you.
