31. Have you talkbackers have no shame? Enough!
Avramele   (06.29.13)
32. #29 Please try to stay focused, Linda
Cynthia ,   USA   (06.29.13)
This young man's death is not an opportunity for you to bash Israel. Judea and Samaria are actually safe, peaceful locals except when crazed Palestinians terrorize the residents. This incident in Egypt reminds me of the way ISM (International Solidarity Movement) brings naive Americans to Gaza and subjects them to danger. The school has responsibility for sending students to these known to be dangerous and unpredictable places. As for Linda, at least you acknowledge this is the land of the Hebrews.
33. Waste of beautiful humane life
AA ,   UK / Tehran   (06.30.13)
I am so so sorry to hear this terrible news,my thoughts and prayers with his family , if there is such a thing as heaven that is where he is now with angels like himself.
34. Very sad
RK ,   USA   (06.30.13)
I feel very sad about this and terrible for this young man's family. But this poor young man paid for his innocence and idealism. What was he doing there? He wanted to bring peace and understanding...so does every Miss America. The only peace this rabble knows is a loaded gun and the only thing they understand is force. May he rest in peace.
35. R.I.P. my brother
A.F ,   Boulder,U.S.   (06.30.13)
I hope something good comes from his passing even if it is only to warn others how dangerous it is to be in countries that have security problems controlling their own people.May he be among our righteous. My condolences to his family and friends.
36. 30. He was targeted for assassination for political reason.
ProudOfUSA   (06.30.13)
It can be true. My true sympathy is with this brave young man. He is a shining example of a good human being. All humanity should honor his life and the pain in his death.

much too much dope about
40. Two key things
Sarah B ,   U.S.A. / Israel   (06.30.13)
Chevy Chase and Kenyon College. Says it all. Why didn't he reach deeply into his roots and come to Israel to teach English. He could work on his Arabic very easily in Israel. He could do good things in Israel, too. But no. He chose to cast his lot with Arabs in Egypt, and now he is dead. Condolences to the family.
41. Little people
Haifen ,   I   (06.30.13)
Why are so many talkbackers such narrow-minded little parochial people? The young man sought to do good and become an expert in a field that we sorely need experts in (both in IL and the US) - the kind of expertise that could help us all. His loss his a tragedy for his friends, family, and his two countries.
42. Sad and ironic
Simcha ,   NYC USA   (06.30.13)
Condolences to the family but....he liked the culture???? Violence, anti semitism, hatred of the west.....he should have gone to Dearborn Michigan-plenty of Muslim/Arab culture there. THEY DON'T WANT US THERE!!!!!!!
43. idiot
austin ,   LA   (06.30.13)
was he a member of the ISM? He loved the culture,...arab not Jewish

This is what Liberals do and some of them hike into Iran - sit in Prison for 2 years and pay a half million dollars to come home.
46. Now THIS is a Martyr!
Ilan ,   Ramat Gan, Israel   (06.30.13)
in every sense of the word! most of us, including myself don't agree with his arrogant and naive decision to live in Egypt. Having said that, HE believed it was worth while, and i don't think any of us have the right to judge that! I think his sacrifice has thought us a lesson though! as to what that lesson is, you are all free to draw your own conclusions of course! RIP Bro!
47. to #17
Bluegrass Picker ,   Afula   (06.30.13)
Clandestine Services Officer? not even old enough to have finished the academy. Not to mention, not a veteran. Go back to drooling over the Hollywood scripts. Don't forget your Orlistat.
48. notice the Egyptians highlighted that he had a small camera
American   (06.30.13)
Trying to insinuate he was a spy. Egyptians are so predictable.
49. could have done the SAME in Israel!!!!!!
sue ,   mevasseret   (06.30.13)
50. Talkbacker critics of this poor dead guy
Dror ,   Haifa, Israel   (06.30.13)
Yes, it is in bad taste to criticize a dead man but in this case we need to make it clear what we think of naive American Jews..
51. 31
CJK   (06.30.13)
you should be careful yourself. the beasts do not care about your political philosophy. only fools go to muslim countries which are in the midst of a revolution. pointing out that this barely adult male was a fool, as were his parents, is necessary and correct, and might save the life of the next romantic jew who falls for the perfidious arabs.
52. His kumbaya education killed him..........
trump   (06.30.13)
53. Some of the comments are SHOCKING!
Adam ,   Canada   (06.30.13)
Many of the comments made above are shocking and make one feel sick!! The young man wanted to learn about a culture he loved and wanted to help kids speak better English. What are you blaming him for? Saying that he was killed because he was Jewish is a lie! None of the Egyptian media covering the story nor the people who are interrogated mentioned anything about his religion! The whole protest turned violent and he happened to be there! Anyone who reads the comments in made by the readers of the Egyptian newspaper will find every Egyptian paying his/her condolences to the family and expressing their sadness that this young man lost his life in a fight between the opponents and supporters of the Egyptian president. Saying that he was killed because he was American is another lie. People in the Middle East have do not hate American people. They only have issues with how the US Government manages the peace process. This young man deserves respect. His family deserves respect, not blaming! He was a brave young man! What he did could have paved the way for better relationships, understanding and a small step towards peace.

don't be surprised if you find it.
57. Number 31
RK ,   USA   (06.30.13)
I hear you. I left a post earlier. Today let me focus on the enormity of this loss. This young man I am sure was a fine person with much promise. It is profoundly sad to have lost him. It still makes me livid to know how he lost his life.
58. For All We Know He Could Have Been Working For The Mossad
World Citizen ,   the world   (06.30.13)
It wouldn't be the first time someone was doing "humanitarian" work to better his/her Arabic.
59. Arab and culture
Sarah B ,   U.S.A. / israel   (06.30.13)
Not two words I am ever likely to use in the same sentence. Just look around, and tell me if I am wrong. One hundred thousand dead Syrians. Real cultural.
60. Sad loss
Get Real ,   UK   (06.30.13)
The last place a Westerner should be,without proper protective cover, is as a bystander watching Arabs demonstrate and riot.
