31. # 1
Sagi   (07.01.13)
1. She did not defend the Arab perpetrator. 2. She criticized the leniency of former sentences handed down and pointed out the inequality. 3. I agree with on the ''Torah Law" for rapists, they should be stoned.
32. Monster got an easy sentence for a terror attack
Ilan   (07.01.13)
Considering that Jaber had a prior terror conviction, deliberately target Jewish victims, and that he brutalized and sodomized as part of his attack shows that he deserves at least twice the sentence he ended up with. And he is lucky. In Saudi Arabia they would have crucified him and let him rot in the sun for half a year. Instead he will probably get a doctorate and get a hosting spot on Israeli TV
33. Who Cares?
A Yid ,   Tel Aviv   (07.01.13)
The author admits that the Arab rapist deserved his 30 year sentence. So why slander Israel as an unjust society?
34. No all israelis are equal before the law
Rami of Nazareth ,   Israel   (07.01.13)
Been proven over and over again... Israeli has one set of laws for jews and another for non-jews. Just like in Iran and saudi arabia, one for muslims and another for non-muslims..
35. It is not the same at all
Danny   (07.01.13)
A woman who is afraid of losing her job and sleeps with the boss is not the same as two teenagers who are violently beaten and raped in a toilet. I also have no doubt had a "rich jew" done exactly the same thing he would get the same sentence.
36. What CRAP!! JEW GOT 10 YRS for
Annie ,   Netanya   (07.01.13)
for manslaughter. It just happened that the boy killed was the son of a prominent judge. The fact is that Tal is from Kibbutz, is Jewish and didn't have any ill intent. He was drunk and stoned and accidentally hit the kid while driving. If Tal Moore is being given 12 yrs for accidentally killing someone, don't you think that a man who rapes with horrible motives, not by accident, be charged worse? The author is either an Arab lover, a left wing moron, or just doesn't care about right from wrong, just thinks that rape when committed by Arabs should be a non-punishable crime, regardless of the girl's life being destroyed or not
37. # 36
Sagi   (07.01.13)
First of all he is not from a Kibbutz, but what the hell is that supposed to mean anyway, are you implying that a person from a Kibbutz is above the law or a different set of laws is applied to him. Second of all being drunk and stoned does not give someone license to kill and if he does then he pays for the crime, and a crime it is.
38. Stupid writer cites no examples. Typical feminist.
Scott ,   USA   (07.02.13)
39. 4. Possibly one of the most disgusting opinion pieces ever
ProudOfHumanity   (07.02.13)
I agree. I could not be more disgusting.
40. very true
rm ,   Amsterdan, NL   (07.02.13)
This is a very true comment no matter how much spin the case get's. Rape is rape and it doesn't matter who rapes who, the punishment should be equally harsh! That should be obvioius, but nothing is obvious in Israel or so it seems
41. More leftist rubbish
Tahl   (07.02.13)
As #35 stated, there is no comparison between a secretary who sleeps with her boss to keep her job, and a girl who is brutally raped and beaten in a toilet. And while a wealthier man having access to expensive lawyers may end up with a lighter sentence, it has everything to do with money, and nothing to do with religion. As for the 80% figure - where the hell did Merav Betito take this number from? Lastly, I would kindly advise Ms. Betito to imagine a Jewish settler brutally raping a Palestinian girl, and caught by the Palestinian police. What kind of "justice" do you think he would receive?
42. Indeed?
Boris ,   Tel Aviv   (07.02.13)
Affluent person would probably never convicted? Remember the body guard of the Chief of Staff, who attempted to rape a young woman a few years ago? She was rescued by passer bys. And he got some 9 years in prison. And yes, he was not a poor guy, money was not a problem there
43. @36 are you referring to Tal Mor who assassinated son of
Miron ,   USA   (07.02.13)
Michael Cheshin. Assassin was returned to US and never served a day.
44. #42 and that was an **attempted** rape
Danny   (07.02.13)
under the influence. This guy forced two teenagers to a secluded places using extreme violence and threats of more and repeatedly raped both. The author of this article should be ashamed of herself.
45. # 43 Nonsense
(07.02.13)
46. Just last week a good Jewish murderer
Shachar ,   Eilat   (07.02.13)
was released after just 3 years in prison and promptly got himself and an innocent bystander killed in a mob hit. The sentencing regime here is a joke and yes it reeks of racism. Sentencing needs to be done by an independant body with an agenda to stop crime. And to all those silly right-wing responses: the author wants 30 yrs for all rapists, no connection to Pal/Israeli issue. Try to read the article before writing silly and irrelevant talkbacks.
47. Why commenting if you do not get the point???
Sergey ,   Tel Aviv   (07.02.13)
Why so many people here turn this article to be leftist ? She is saying the right thing here. Israeli courts are lame. One can kill a person and get off with some deal, or get out of jail after 6 years due to "good behavior"! Every rapist or murder has to get 30 years and more in prison. But it is not happening
48. Where is the writer's evidence?
BH ,   Iowa   (07.03.13)
Where is the study that shows that under similar circumstances an arab receives harsher punishment then the Jew? Please provide verifiable statistics and case studies. Until then, this is just more made-up crap meant to demonize Jews.
49. I agree
Philip ,   Israel   (07.03.13)
There should be a minimum 10 year mandatory sentence for rape
50. to #34 In Israel the judges r not always jewish.
ghostq   (07.03.13)
this verdict can easily been given by non jewish judge.
