1. How is it not father's fault
Dan ,   USA   (07.01.13)
when he left baby in car ?
2. Missed life
j ,   tlv   (07.01.13)
Infant left in the car from 9 am to 4 pm????!!!!!! It's 32 degrees HOT! If this is true, there is no excuse for this and the father should be arrested and tried in court. I have a six month old baby and this breaks my heart.
3. Its not his fault.....wtf

4. No cure for stupidity!
Koose E Mack ,   NY USA   (07.01.13)
How can someone be so stupid and heartless? No excuses for this....this is pure negligence or purposeful homicide.. May the baby's soul rest in eternal peace.
5. Oh yes it is his fault
glenn ,   t.aviv   (07.01.13)
Anyone who has seen, dozens of times each day, the abnormal attachment to the cellphone, where not a minute goes by without practically every owner constantly checking the phone in case he (or she) misses an sms. They cross roads talking but without looking for oncoming cars. They hold you up at the supermarket tills because the phone reigns supreme. Recent research revealed (in the UK) that young kids don't worry about death, or exams, or not getting a job, their biggest fear is...losing their phone!! This poor sod would have gone crazy had he left that car without cellphone in his hand, yet there was no problem forgetting a life left in it in what must have reached 50 degrees inside, not for 1 or 2 hours but 9! He couldn't forget his phone for a hundredth of that time and that's the sad and ugly fact with these things. It is a dreadful tragedy, but then so is every road accident - and there are many - caused by idiots like this.
6. It wasn't deliberate...
Eaglebeak ,   Left Coast, USA   (07.01.13)
but it certainly was his fault. Somebody should ask the lady next door whose fault it was. Perhaps if he was driving a Ford she thinks it was Ford Motor Companies fault. Unbelievable someone could think that way. My heart goes out to the family and I even feel sorry for the guy that did it. He knows whose fault it was and that is going to be a heavy burden to carry. I wouldn't wish it on anyone.
7. Judgmental posters scream, "Crucify him!"
mea   (07.01.13)
Keep something in mind, champs; this man will suffer deeply for the rest of his life precisely because he made a thoughtless error that cost his own child a life. According to statistics, there exists a 90% chance his marriage will not survive five years. These sorts of tragedies usually result in bereavement and pain so deep a couple cannot overcome the complex set of emotions. Who among you has never made a mistake? The idea that he was intentionally negligent is grossly unfair. His life is ruined in ways so horrible, no decree from a court could match it. If he had been lax and stupid in the past that would indicate something, but he is a man who erred and THAT will become a time released psychic pain which will extend over his lifetime and never leave his mind. I feel deeply sorry for this man--His fate is sealed and his life will never be the same. Stop being so damned judgmental. Stop screaming for vengeance like twelfth century pagans.
8. Time for a cheap monitor
Dan ,   Kefar Saba   (07.01.13)
The time has come for a cheap monitor (less than 100 shekel) that will notify the driver that a child is in the car. I saw on TV that there is a new (in testing) product for about 800 shekel, but that is too much - for each child in the car. A product of less than 100 that can be used by parents until at least the child is 8 or 9, is needed. Why 8 or 9? So that children left in cars when they are asleep, and are expected to be left for only 5 minutes, can be saved also.
9. Suggestion to inventors
Dan ,   Kefar Saba   (07.01.13)
Prepaid programmed SIM that is activated when the temperature is over 38 degrees. Calls parents and if a clock is added, also calls the person who should be taking care of the child. The product can be a pin that is attached to clothing, or have a sensor that there is a person in a baby or booster seat, and be part of the seat.

A better comment couldn't have been written. A friend of mines son had backed out of his driveway and having not seen his 2yr old daughter who had left the house ran over and killed the child. There is no greater tragedy. The couple divorced since then and the pain never leaves.
11. It cannot happen to anyone
Dave ,   TLV   (07.01.13)
Thankfully the vast majority of parents know how to take care of their children.

13. Stress!
Jose ,   Nigeria   (07.02.13)
People are stressed out these days. And yes, it can happen to anyone who is not taking care of his/her mental health!
14. So whose fault is it?
Sarah B ,   U.S.A. / Israel   (07.02.13)
How do you forget your own child?
15. Nicely said #7 but.....
Ilan ,   Ramat Gan, Israel   (07.02.13)
Fair? nothing about this is fair, and the man doesn't deserve fair what so ever! the fact that he will suffer the rest of his life doesn't excuse or even begin to pay for what his negligence has cost. It doesn't matter if it was done on purpose or not. if it was your responsibility that it is automatically your fault! and that goes for many things in life too! a parent is supposed to be responsible for his children. CRUCIFY HIM!!!!!!!

Excuse me, but a bad investment is a mistake. Choosing a horrible hotel on vacation is a mistake. Forgetting your infant in a locked car on a hot summer day is involuntary manslaughter. Funnily enough, I don't care too much about his psychological pain or the possible collapse of his marriage. I do care a great deal about a helpless infant who lost her life because of this man's thoughtlessness. I'm sorry if you consider that being "judgmental." That you clearly do speaks volumes to your twelfth-century pagan mindset.
17. A TOTAL TRAGEDY FOR ALL. AS FAR AS THE FATHER...
Rafi ,   US   (07.02.13)
... and most of theTalkbackers' harsh judgement: you never cease to amaze with your arrogance, self-righteousness - and cruelty. Your views are typical of the bullying right-wing trash talk you write on other subjects. Are you remotely familar with the expression "there go I but for the grace of G-d..." My heart goes out to the bereaved parents.

Today the temperature in Ramat Gan was 33 degrees, not 50. ''This poor sod'' is now & will for the rest of his life, ''be going crazy'' because he is responsible for the death of his 9 month old daughter, which was not a deliberate act.

Yes Mea, you are right, your post is well thought out & well written. Kudos to you.

Hadn't you worked it out? It isn't rocket science that inside an enclosed metal and glass object, the heat rises to 50+ degrees, which is exactly why leaving children in a car for even 20 minutes can kill them. It wasn't deliberate, we know, but there are thousands of fools out there who drop everything to answer that "all important" phone call. NOTHING, but nothing, can be more important than putting the lives and welfare of the children in your car before the damned phone. It's become a sickness and this is the sad consequence.

Right, the heat inside a car does rise to 50+. My mistake. I must be the only person who walks around with a closed mobile !! Being addicted to my mobile is not one of my faults! reading the article wrongly is, would you like me to stand in the corner for that?? Dont forget to tell your kids that you love them!
