4. Descrimination is UNTOLERABLE!!
Non Jew ,   Israel   (07.03.13)
As a non jew living in Israel, I loudly claim that this guy can NOT be the representative of the jewish communities of Israel. It would be a shame for its minorities to which I belong.
5. attorney general has too mcuh power
david ,   new york   (07.03.13)
what right does he have to approve or disapprove of candidates? if he needs to get information from someone, it is quite easy to do it discretely. instead, he publicises it in the media as if the target is guilty of something - he isnt. someone is innocent unless you prove them guilty and clearly he hasnt proven nothing. its definately straight from from the mcCarthy playbook. anyone he doesnt like (either because of religion or politics) he gets to assasinate his character.
6. # 4
Philip ,   Afula, Israel   (07.03.13)
I agree with you 100%.
7. Tzippi Livni is so pathetic
AB ,   TheRock   (07.03.13)
By her logic, why doesn't she take disciplinary action against herself for not behaving according to halacha if she's representing Israel - a jewish state?
8. May there be many more like Rabbi Shmuel Eliyahu!
(07.03.13)
He has a true Jewish heart.
9. I can't stand Livni nor Weinstein but
Israeli 2   (07.04.13)
the entire Rabbinate must be dissolved and place the more perfect union in place - the Sanhedrin.
10. Let Livni go to Tahrir square
Josh ,   Petach Tikva   (07.04.13)
if she wants to see the Egyptian Arab culture in action. Don't tell men that I have to sell to Arabs. Let the Arabs move into her neighborhood. she is such a hypocrite in her own little world.
11. The choice of Chief Rabbi
Joseph ,   London England   (07.04.13)
There is in place an electoral procedure and it is up to the electors and not up to Livni to choose the candidates or to choose the Chief Rabbis. Rabbi Eliyahu enjoys the support of many other senior rabbis and he has been cleared of any allegations of racism. Sefas is one of Judaism's four holy cities and there was an influx of Arab students when a college opened in Sefas. Eliyahue wanted to preserve the Jewish character of the old city of Sefas and had the approval of other regional rabbis. When there were suggestions that Arabs were trying to buy up land in one area of Israel, Eliyahu pointed out that the Holy Land belongs to G-d and once the Temple is restored the land will revert every 50 years [Jubillee] to the original Tribes. Livni is speaking for people with a limited understanding of the complex situation.
12. Reply to number 4
Sherlock Holmes ,   London England   (07.04.13)
Israel's Laws are made by the Knesset and the Chief Rabbi's religious role should not directly affect non-Jewish Israelis. He has, incidentally, retracted his statements and apologised.
13. Moses Maimonides?
Reuven ,   Jerusalem, Israel   (07.05.13)
One wonders if Moses Maimonides (Rambam) could ever be elected as Chief Rabbi of Israel. Rav Eliyahu is just basing himself on the Rambam. Who is Weinstein to influence the choice of chief Rabbi?
14. 13 Right, because today's rabbinate is exercise in PC
Jewish Observer ,   Israel   (07.05.13)
having NO connection to legitimate Halacha The Rabbinate needs to be dissolved so that Israel can move to a Bet Hillel understanding of Halacha as prophesied by Yirmeyahu ha-Navi (31:30-33).
15. What part of election does Weinstein not understand
Mordechai   (07.05.13)
Its not his job to pick the next chief Rabbi. There are people who have the job to elect the chief Rabbi and Weinstein is free to try and become one of those people. One man should not and under the law does not have the right to decide who is or is not a good choice for the position of Chief Rabbi. How would people feel if a haredi AG ruled that Religious Zionists could not be Chief Rabbi. What if the AG ruled Livni was unfit to be justice minister? Folks you don't like who becomes Chief Rabbi vote out the people who put him there. Vote in a new Prime Minister who will introduce laws to change the process. But stop giving up democracy and allow a few people to act as dictator. Just because you agree with this decision doesn't mean you will like the next one.
