1. Let's face it........
Mike Carmel ,   Rishon le Zion   (07.05.13)
Women are generally MUCH more competent than men at almost everyhing. The Rabbinate is an outdated anachronistic irrelevance which should be closed down.
2. Absolutely yes.
Wise Saba ,   Western Negev   (07.05.13)
My wife was the mashgiach of a large kitchen in a nursing home back in Canada for many years & did an excellent job, she solely was responsible to the Rav of the city. Women understand kitchens & food much better than men do a better job.
3. To number 1 the petitioners would disagree with you
Mordechai   (07.05.13)
The petitioners would disagree with you. They aren't looking to get rid of the Rabbinate they are looking to work for it. This article clearly has some factual issues. The chief rabbinate allows people who have not been in yeshiva or Kollel to take the Rabbinate tests. The shemayisrael.com online semicha program primarily includes overseas students who then take the Rabbinate tests without this requirement. Can we get a actual reporter on this issue who researches the facts and not someone who just rewrites press releases.
4. Scary
Doug ,   U.S.   (07.05.13)
They sound like a real bunch of religious fanatics.
5. @1
RL ,   PT   (07.05.13)
let me guess...you're the woman in your relationship! Woman have they're jobs and men have theirs...woman are better cooks and men are better at supervision! not every single thing has to be the exact same...what ever happened to individualism? next woamen will be petitioning to the high court that they want urinals!!!
6. # 5 Women have and do lead nations
Yoram ,   USA   (07.05.13)
in India, Ceylon, Australia, England, Germany, israel, are on supreme Courts in many nations, judges, attorneys, scientists, professors,CEOs of multi-national multi billion $ corps, A woman is pres of BGU of Negev, pres of Yale is female . All those tasks require great supervision skills, as does running a household. Your comments are ignorant
7. # 5, Let me guess.
Philip ,   Afula, Israel   (07.05.13)
You are primitive and chauvinistic. Women are just as talented as men, its about time you loosened your blinkers and realised this.
8. #5
sharon ,   israel   (07.05.13)
that is about the stupidest thing i've heard in the last few days
9. Secular court cannot change the minds of Orthodox Rabbis
Fay   (07.05.13)
Religious and immodest doesn't go together. If you're immodest, you're not religious. Rabbis can't be fooled and the secular court, even a so-called High Court, will not change their minds.
10. this is hard work, many hours, tedious and monotonous
(07.05.13)
my brother became a kosher supervisor and he couldn't last a month before he quit. If those women want to not see their families and come home exhausted everyday, then by all means.
11. A serious chance to improve Kashrut
Rube Vogel ,   Jerusalem   (07.06.13)
The current situation, where ultra-Orthodox supervisors who don't think enough of their own supervision to eat in the places they supervise is a disaster. Women who care about Kashrut and not just a job could do the job much better.
12. Puleez, #5 beat me to it
Carl ,   USA   (07.07.13)
Women are great in their own kitchens, but supervising MEN in a place of business and making decisions that could affect customers and people's livelihoods?! That is preposterous! Sarcasm here folks, unlike #5. These rabbis really need to get aboard the 21st century.
13. Women and kashrus
Sherlock Holmes ,   London England   (07.07.13)
Throughout the Jewish world, throughout Jewish history the kitchen and kashrus have been part of a woman's domain. I am a qualified mashgiach or shomer, but my wife knows far more than I do because her whole life she was involved in keeping a kosher home. I hope the Israeli High Court resolves this issue on behaqlf of women.
14. Women kosher supervisors
Leib ,   Us   (07.07.13)
Just do a way the the שלחן ארוח and the תורה and you don't need any of this stuff
15. Rebbes have "the inclination.."
ASTRONAUT ,   SC, USA   (07.08.13)
to backward thinking. Who goes to the market and selects the finest, freshest food? The wife! Who prepares Kashrut meals? The wife! Who serves her family fine meals? Correct again: the wife! It is "the inclination" of the wife to keep her house Kosher.
16. re: "women are not allowed to study in a yeshiva or a kollel
Miron ,   USA   (07.08.13)
I have in my personal posession Sidur from fasicst annihilated city of Vilno, the book has a date when it was given as a gift to owner, year 1910. This Sidur, based on the opinion of one respected ravvin of Hasid sect, belonged to a woman who red from it daily prayer. To read daily prayer one has to finish classes in ieshiva and to have guidance of rabeinu. This press organ is as wellversed in intricate details of Judaism as sledge - hammer wellversed into the play of light of a dimond.
