1. I support your waiting, but I have trouble with where...
Miron ,   USA   (07.07.13)
Middle of Atlantic over the Marianna Deep is the right place to go down for the rabid dogs you are.
2. Syria "sacrificed three of his army's soldiers but..."
Raymond in DC ,   Washington, USA   (07.07.13)
"He sacrificed three of his army's soldiers but proved he was protecting Syria's honor." The writer could more accurately have written "but he was protecting Syria's perverse sense of honor". Three soldiers were sacrificed while daring an Israeli response at the risk of widening the conflict, and for what? Honor?
3. excellent article, very informative
CJK   (07.07.13)
assad must remember that israel has many ways to retaliate against any attempt by him or his shia allies to harm israel's interests.
4. golan and boogie yaalon
mohson   (07.07.13)
assad should beware of yaalon on the golan. He is diametrically opposite of barak. While barak was reluctant to act and mostly offered concessions, Yaalon is not afraid of large land batttles and he would push the idf to go all out to wipe out syrian or hezbollah visible and underground formations/ Israel is in good hands and the arabs had better know what they are gettting into.
5. One of Ron Ben-Yishai's best articles! A nice change!
Michael Redbourn ,   Arad   (07.07.13)
6. Messy
Get Real ,   UK   (07.07.13)
Israel allows the Syrian army to re-take rebel postions on border because it prefers not to have Sunni neighbours there. Israel should act firmly and the Syrian army must also be made to pay a heavy price if Assad allows Palestinian terrorists into the area to fire on IDF.
7. NO! The response was NOT disproportionate
Zvi   (07.08.13)
" but the response was purposely disproportional: A missile destroyed the machine gun position and the soldiers manning in order to warn Syria against additional provocations. " PLEASE don't fall into that trap, Ron. Syria is an enemy country. Syrian soldiers opened fire across a ceasefire line at Israeli soldiers. Israel fired back and eliminated the source of fire. Period. That is not a disproportionate response.
8. Yaalon is a strong defense minister
Dror ,   Haifa, Israel   (07.08.13)
Yaalon is more cunning, ruthless, daring, and capable than Barak ever was. Yaalon is a true Yeke commander meaning a very meticulous German like mind for making war. Rommel was called the Desert Fox, Yaalon should be called the Yiddish Mongoose..
9. #1
cfspirit ,   fr and dz   (07.08.13)
I do not understand what you said but it is what i am thinking so i am shocked by what you said. RON BEN-YISHAI i am still wanting to read an article about the strategy of peace ! What Israelians and Palestinians will do for the peace !?
10. Are Hezbollah out of control?
Sammy ,   Newcastle   (07.08.13)
As the instability they have caused in Lebanon rises Senior Hezbollah Militants are OPENLY expressing threats to mount a Coup in Lebanon - even against the express wishes of Iran. And you can understand Hezbollahs thinking when Hezbollah says 'Iran will not say or do anything because they need us more than we need them! They seem to be thinking about 'Hezbollah as the new independent force' in the region from which with control of all of Lebanon they can turn the 'Hezbollah Republic of Lebanon' into a world Superpower
11. They are mercenaries
David V. ,   Sydney   (07.08.13)
...the Palestinian gangs fighting for Assad who have helped him mow down Syrians as well as Palestinians within Syria. It is all part of his provocation to drag more parties into the war and export the conflict. There will be no Greater Syria or Islamic Republic in Lebanon run by the Party of Satan. March 14 must resist every step of the way.
12. good article, inidcating the many permutations this could go
Rafi ,   US   (07.08.13)
13. My younger son is in the IDF tank corps
Al   (07.09.13)
