1. Another Free Ride
Arielush ,   Ramat Ha Golan   (07.14.13)
"The $2,700 cost of the course is being split among the Israeli government, the Joint Distribution Committee, and an organization called Temech, meant to help ultra-Orthodox women in Israel find jobs" As a parent struggling to pay tuition I find this infuriating. Once again, the Haredim get a free ride. Most of these women never bother to get a practical education. Those that did are getting free retraining. The Israeli government can find the money to donate to their cause, but what about our kids. My taxes are helping them, but there are no government funds or charities to help our kids. I don't hate Haredim. I just don't wnat my money to help them!
2. Should Study military Science
Zechariah   (07.14.13)
90% of Haredi men ought be studying military science post Shoah. The Haredim had the worst survival rate in the Shoah and that's a Pikuach Nefesh message.
3. Great way to benefit Haredi women.
Michael ,   California, USA   (07.14.13)
The medical coding is penetrating here and is driving us crazy already. But if it will benefit Haredi women in Israel, I will be willing to suffer it out. Thank you for this upbeat article.
4. My best employees are Haredi women
Reuven H. ,   Modiin, Israel   (07.14.13)
I run a small company which provides outsourced professional services including software design and verification testing for the telecommunications industry. The programmers who work in this division must be extremely focused and creative with an ability to solve complex logic problems in the most efficient manner. We started hiring Haredi women about two years ago when our coders based in Bangalore (also excellent programmers) began to raise their fees significantly. Now, most of our coders are Haredi women. Yes, we comply with their 'strange' demands such as working in women-only spaces and additional vacation days - but in the end, our company profited tremendously. It is my earnest hope that private and government investment will continue for these kind of training programs which benefit everyone involved.
5. Haredi women are gems...
ORA ,   JERUSALEM   (07.14.13)
Lucky are the men who have the qualifications to marry them. it is worth entering in religion to get them. They are fabulous !
6. 5 So women in burkas say about other women in burkas
Israeili Jew ,   Israel   (07.14.13)
You're well indoctrinated too
8. to 4 and 5
Arielush ,   Ramat Ha Golan   (07.14.13)
Their colleagues might not agree. Having worked in schools with Haredim us secular women were always at a disadvantage. We always had to carry the burden of the work because they were always pregnant or home taking care of a sick child. They were always excused from meeting or special religious lessons because they had places to go children to take care of.
9. #1 mean-spirited and economically false
Naftush   (07.14.13)
You could as easily apply your mean-spiritedness to all job training/retraining programs, which often fail because the candidates don't take them seriously. These women are doing exactly what all the un/underemployed are supposed to do. Kudos to them, a lesson to others.
10. Perfect ideology !
MARIAN ,   Romania   (07.14.13)
How could I become a Haredi man and get a perfect wife like those ? P.S.: Do the Haredi admit abortion ?
11. # 5 Ora
Sagi   (07.14.13)
All women are gems, unfortunately Haredi women are mostly married to lumps of coal.
12. Mean Spirited
Arielush ,   Ramat Ha Golan   (07.14.13)
The tuition for the course is $2,700. It is being funded partially by the government partially by charities. My daughter wouldn't be eligible for the course because she is secular. At the university she is also at a disadvantage because her parents earn money. I'm not mean spirited. I just don't want to pay for their free ride.
13. They take care of their large families and
olim hadashim ,   tel aviv/israel   (07.14.13)
keep our land jewish. They take care of their husbands.Wow! I wish I had been a bachelor.
14. Working Girls
M. Hartley ,   Atlanta, US   (07.14.13)
Give these ladies a little time. Soon, they'll be too tired for sex, they'll get sick of working outside and inside the home, they'll get curious about the "fun" spoken of by their co-workers and one day it'll dawn on them that they make enough money to survive without having to put up with some crummy, selfish husband, whose "devotion" hasn't done a thing to improve their lot.

Nice to see you back, welcome. Your contributions always add a bit of humor, with intelligent, albeit facetious, comments.
16. Count your fingers before you shake hands on this one ,...
split ,   US   (07.14.13)
It smells like a scam, Ms. Gould starts a training course, takes care of recruitment and collects the money. No matter of the outcome and she's getting $2700 per head and you get nothing except a smirk for taking the hook, the sinker and nine yards of line ,... I wouldn't be surprised to learn that Ms. Gould share some profit with her 'students' ,...

21. To: No. 16
Sarah B ,   U.S.A. / Israel   (07.14.13)
Why don't you give your anti-Semitism a rest? Your comments -- always inappropriate -- are ridiculous and not appreciated. Particularly in view of the fact that you have absolutely no knowledge of Jews, Judaism, and the State of Israel. Take a hike. Haven't you and your pretend "disability" sucked enough taxpayer dollars in the United States? Looking for more? How about YOU get a job?
22. 18 J.K. give a bump in the log hand?
ORA ,   JERUSALEM   (07.14.13)

Sagi   (07.14.13)
Forsooth ! I am glued to my chaise, quotest thee The Bard. Ora, lend me your ears, honorable men they are not, they knowest not the seven ages and they exist in a winter of discontent. They epitomise The Merchant and just like Bottom, they are floating on air. When the Thane faced reality he fell on his sword.
24. great article
lisa ,   israel   (07.15.13)
its time people stop complaining and stop focusing on the title haredim. These women are motivated and want to work. That's all that counts!
25. JK #18
M. Hartley ,   Atlanta, US   (07.15.13)
Well, give someone a fish today and they'll be hungry again tomorrow. Teach them how to fish and they'll sit in a frigging boat drinking beer day in and day out :-)
26. To Sagi #15
M. Hartley ,   Atlanta, US   (07.15.13)
Thank you. I always enjoy your comments and I agree with most of them, especially as regards religion of whatever persuasion.
