61. To No. 60
Bertram ,   London, UK   (07.10.13)
Please don't muddy the waters. The Nazis were the largest single party by far, following the 1933 elections. As in many other countries, the head of state, Hindenberg, asked Hitler to form a government, which he did with the support of other parties. Following this, Hitler outmanoeuvred both his opponents and allies, got the Enabling Act passed by the Reichstag, and established his dictatorship. This is an example of the extreme use of the majoritarian model of'democracy'.
62. Lets beggin with a charitable prologue!
AVouskila ,   South America   (07.10.13)
A person who takes upon herself or himself to share a point or two about reforming or improving a societal 'maladie'. The intent is commendable if not outright heroic. But when Yaron takes upon himself to show us the mirror of Israel society, as a reflection of another (according the the pandit, very extreme in its religiousity) society, Muslim and fighting for the right to determine its own future; he has to be knowledgeable about the real composite, anthropological make-up of the Egyptian as well, and I hasten to add, the Israel society. On top of that Yaron ought to show us that really he has the intellectual ability and social referrences from other Democratic-Conservative nations. Nope: he took no labour to create a legimitate impression that the guy knows much about the essence of his Op-ed. Far from me to inpute on Yaron any self-hating feelings . Au contraire, the Israel society has put him on a pedestal, and listens carefully about his senses (non-senses, is not part of the Israeli daily concerns) for the future of the State of Israel. Unfortunately he came out short, except for regurging the old 19th century anti-religious ideologues that wanted to create a perfect new society ala Roberspierre Yaron ought to go back and instruct himself of the cases Egypte (which for sure his savoir is very poor) and Israel whose image he paints with the colour of a futurist from the ancient times.
63. #50 Regrettably, there are those among
On the Balcony ,   Akko/NY/Kyiv   (07.10.13)
the Haredi who see nothing wrong with throwing rocks and using other forms of terrorist intimidation against others, e.g., Sabbath violators . It is, of course, silly to attribute the actions of a few to all. By the way, there are a billion Muslims in the world, only a very small percentage of whom express their hatred of us violently. That said, this article omits a fundamental difference: the Moslem religion embraces death while Judaism does not ("pikuah nefesh"). That is a built in check on violent behavior.
64. Sagi , NOT wrong . He came to power after elections
Charles ,   Petach Tikva   (07.10.13)
he didn't win , but was appointed chancellor . Later he eliminated all the other parties to become the dictator we know . Those extremist parties [mis]uses democracy to gain power and then use this power to eliminate democracy . That's also the final goal of our charedi parties , eliminate all our rights as seculars

66. Women of the Wall will pray naked
Eli ,   Israel   (07.10.13)
Why not, god made them that way. I'm sure she, he or it wouldn't be embarrassed by it.
67. 64 charles The final goal is not ...
Robert ,   Antwerp Belgium   (07.11.13)
one that unites all haredim because the haredim are not united and the Rebbes and rabanim will not sit together in a sanhedrin with their national religious counterparts. That's why it is panic mongering to say that haredim are a danger to democracy. On the other hand it is true that in haredi neighbourhoods secular people will not be able to live like they would like to
68. How about starting with the basics?
Az   (07.11.13)
If the "Jewish state" renounces Halakha and instead embraces democracy as a founding principle, then it might as well have never been established - any state will do. So since the democratic "option" has been debunked, then HOW do you get things running right? Start with the basics. Some of it's pretty basic. Citizens must acknowledge one supreme deity, no more, no less. They must not acknowledge any other worthy beings. No images!! No murder, no stealing, and so on. Those are pretty basic right? And you probably have your work cut out for you right there with those first ten, before you have to worry about the rest.
69. Robert . they will be united in their anti secularism
Charles ,   Petach Tikva   (07.11.13)
The same as the arab states , they are ONLY united against Israel .
70. Admitting truth about Haredi draft
ahad haamoratsim ,   usa   (07.11.13)
At last someone admits the truth: the movement to draft Haredim has nothing to do with the IDF's needs, or even sharing the burden of military service, and everything to do with secularizing the Haredim.
71. Mr. Seventy:
Az   (07.12.13)
If anything, it is an encouragement to these Haredim - an encouragement to fulfill their religious obligations! It is an opportunity to take charge of this secularization process, to make an example of their duty, and to show the world that they are not merely a sideshow in Israeli life. You of all people should be so understanding as to acknowledge that there is much talk of this secularization problem in the Jewish nation, but little action taken on the matter. I hope that you will welcome this reversal in the trend to shirk the command to join the Israelite army and agree with me that it is a positive sign that Jews are actually following their Laws, and not merely diverting attention from them.
72. Robert , disappeared when can't answer .
Charles ,   Petach Tikva   (07.12.13)
You can't react , so , as always , you disappear . Poor mentality ....
73. 72 - No, it more likely means ynet didn't like his reply

74. 73 , he always act this way !
Charles ,   Petach Tikva   (07.12.13)
