1. No leniency, they should go to jail, maximum sentence
Jacob E ,   Holon, Israel   (07.10.13)
These people planned and executed a malicious attack against a uniformed soldier, a protector of the peace of our country. This is something that needs to have an example set. They should spend the next 10 years at least of their lives behind bars. This is not something to be tolerated.
2. I am a parent of a frum soldier..I ask all parents of frum
Al   (07.10.13)
soldiers to stand up and demand that the so called Rebbes of the cult stop inciting against our children. My son who sports beard and payos could have easily been sitting in a yeshiva pretending he is a Torah scholar. He chose to do his duty and I must say he excels at what he does. He simply loves the army as he progresses up the ranks. I am very proud of him. I am not religious in the least. I will damned if I would allow anyone of these bozos to harm my son. As it stands I will never ever support anyone of these schnorrers till the day I die and I am not a poor man. To my mind they are no better that the Arabs who wish us harm. I am disgusted by the silence of their so called Rebbes. They disgust me to the core of my being.
3. I will wait for all the details to come out.

4. No sympathy mum
Harvey ,   London   (07.10.13)
Mum states 'I'm sure if they knew he was studying Torah , they would not have attacked him ' . In other words , another soldier non Haredi and not studying Torah is fair game . Her son was not immediately recognised as Haredi , hence the beating and abuse . Mum wake up and smell the coffee . You are living in a neighbourhood which barely recognises the state of Israel but is happy enough to take state benefits and refuses to accept sharing the burden of defence of the nation state
5. What did this BT expect when he purposely passed
Dave   (07.10.13)
a haredi neighborhood in a uniform that offends them? He learned his lesson well.
6. Nahal Haredi is haredi by name but a far cry
(07.10.13)
from the haredim Lapid wants in Israel's Cantonist Forces. The 3,000 soldiers in the army mentioned in this article are religious soldiers but not haredim. There are less than a handful haredi soldiers in the army and by that amount it will stay.
7. why haredi are tolerated is beyond me
courtney ,   usa   (07.10.13)
they should be sent to tehran
8. yet, another jewish terrorist attack..
Rami of Nazareth ,   Israel   (07.10.13)
9. dave = complete baffoon
courtney ,   usa   (07.10.13)
the caste system has a word for haredi, undesirables.
10. dave you are an ldiot no less
mical ,   usa   (07.10.13)
Are you kidding me? Their neighborhood? They did contribute nothing how can it be theirs. Parasites who create more to fulfill their sex drive! Nothing more. And now it's theirs? That is the attitude that gives them power!
11. #4 I think it's an even deal
Dave   (07.10.13)
Haredim don't recognize the Zionist state and the Zionists don't recognize the Torah. So those who don't recognize the Zionist state but recognize the Torah and believe that the Torah is the best protection, should continue studying Torah. And those who don't recognize the Torah should be the ones fighting with arms. That's the most fair and best way of sharing the burden. For your information, most haredim and yeshivot in that neighborhood don't take government benefits. Their taxes go to funding unnecessary education in universities.
12. Israel is reaping what she sow
Non Jewish immigrant   (07.10.13)
Israel society is so fractionned due to governmental policies. Israel society is based on separatism. There's no national unity in Israel. Every governments that succeed one another are governments of just a fraction of the Israeli society. I have been living here for six years and what I see in only hatred, violence and racism against one another. The only times I saw an Israeli unity were during war times. Politicians should wake up and stop the disaster or civil war is going to be inevitable
13. Unity
Non Jewish immigrant   (07.10.13)
Israel society will never be able to unite until Israel will define what she is
14. Soldier Attacked By Orthodox Mob
Yonatan ,   USA   (07.10.13)
After reading about this news story the other day, I was left in total disbelief and disgust. To think that an Israeli soldier would be attacked by a mob because he wore his uniform, is so very sad. What is happening in Israel? What have our people become? Since when does the "minority" gets to dictate to the "majority"? Israel is changing so much, but not always for the best I'm afraid. This is what happens when "good people" do nothing.
15. @Dave no.5
Dani ,   Tel aviv   (07.10.13)
So by that logic every haredi man wearing a hat and costume through Florentin Tel Aviv deserves to be beaten up by seculars because his clothes offend them? I am shocked and sickened by how these so-called 'God fearing' are the most aggressive, hateful and morally corrupt of all Israelis.
16. #11, Study Tora in private after work and service.
Michael ,   California, USA   (07.10.13)
Not an even deal when you do nothing useful and don't let others live their lives freely. As long as you are unwilling to serve the state of Israel, the state should not grant you the rights all legitimate citizens have. As a citizen you have a CONTRACT to serve the state and you have violated your contract. For such violation you should be legally punished.
17. #11 An even deal would be to stone parasites
(07.10.13)
who attack soldiers protecting them, and you as well.
18. Dave #11
Robert Haymond ,   Teko'a, Israel   (07.10.13)
Your view is exceedingly short-sighted. I reside in Teko'a. There, as in all the Yishuveem, Traditional Orthodox families raise their children to join the military. They also study Torah and are guided by our ancient ways and learning. And...they are Zionists. Furthermore, there are many semi-religious families throughout Israel which receive some religious guidance from Torah and...they are Zionists. Your extremist views and lack of thoughtful reflection on matters pertaining to Israel's defense are apparent and do actual harm to the Charedi community as far as the outside perspective. For one thing, the Charedim are made up of a number of differing factions and cannot be defined so narrowly as you (and others) do. Second, anyone who is familiar with Charedi life knows that many young men are simply not fit for, nor interested in, continual Torah study and that their lives are being wasted by doctrinaires such as yourself because of the obstacles to alternatives put in their path by those such as yourself. Furthermore, much of the Charedi leadership is either corrupt or self-aggrandizing and the last thing these leaders want is for the young Charedi men and women to find their own way as that would lead to loss of power and control. In short, your advocacy on behalf of Charedim is misplaced and ultimately harmful to the very people you wish to protect.
19. Dave - you clearly don't know what you're talking about
Brian Cohen ,   Judean Peoples Front   (07.10.13)
I happen to live in a very zionist community that is shomer shabbat and the guys go to yeshiva and serve in the army. in fact, my yishuv has one of the highest per capita percentages of combat troops and both male and female officers - almost all from religous zionist families. You, Dave, probably wouldn't know a zionist if they stepped on your toes. Then again, you probably have no idea what haredim are either. And no, even in a Jewish shtetl outsiders are (or were) allowed to walk around without fear of being lynched by the Jews....everywhere except in Israel where your pet haredim practice sinat hinam as a mitzvah.
20. yonatan-about charedim
mical ,   usa   (07.10.13)
Yonatan, l have news for you, this attitude against soldiers is NOT new. I was a female soldier living in BnaiBrak in the 60's .when l walked outside l knew that l would be spit on, as it happened to others who warned me. I learned to be tough looking and ready to react aggressivly if anyone attempt to degrade me in any way. They came close but didn't dare. It was wrong then and even more so now.And it cultivates hate which l still carry.
21. 5 Dave you think the same way as...
Robert ,   Antwerp Belgium   (07.10.13)
antisemites do when they see a Jew walking in their neighbourhood, meaning dressing like a Jew is a green light to beat them so you believe that dressing like a soldier is a reason to hurt them
22. #11 - dave
dan kaplan ,   usa   (07.10.13)
do you use a cellphone ? drive a car ? fly to different countries via aircraft ? did these items come from torah study or the "unnecessary" university education ? so, stop using them.
23. i dont agree, but understand reason
david ,   new york   (07.10.13)
clearly, beating people up is not a good idea. however, it should be understood that this is a reaction to the attempts to destroy haredi life by the current government. haredim in uniform are considered traitors and dealt with harshly (clearly this man was not a traitor to haredi life). had there not been this push to assimilate haredim, there would not have been this attack. maybe its just a radical fringe doing this, but the way they are going they are trying to make every haredi into this radical fringe. israelis have to stop being so STUPID
24. To Mother of attacked 'boy".
Israeli 2   (07.10.13)
"My son is exhausted, he is traumatized. His brothers attacked him, and they should to rot in jail." Your son is a soldier , Madame....not a boy! "His brothers?" You mean your other sons? and you want them to rot in jail? Don't be a whining hypocrite by calling those filthy swines "his brothers."
25. 5.Dave,you are right,for an I.D.F.soldier
J.K. ,   Brooklyn USA   (07.12.13)
walking the haredi streets,is like a haredi Jew walking the streets of Berlin,33-45.Can you imagine a soldier in King David's army being attacked by the enemies of Zion ,what would have been king David's reaction ?.
