Israel should be investing more assets, not less in its defense. The army and the politicians were saying the same thing before the Yom Kippur war. We all know how that turned out. Another war is certainly coming and it will be fought with tanks, artillery and infantry.

On the other side, the older models like Merkava II will only be targets in a future war. Second, we need to understand, that most of our enemies do not rely on traditional warfare any more. They have discovered the advantages of asymmetric warfare, terror and guerilla tactics. They do not want to hit military targets. They only want to cause as many civilian casualties in Israel as possible.
