1. Excellent article
Misha ,   Milan, Italy   (07.16.13)
Compliments to the author and to Ynet.
2. Leadership
Volvi   (07.16.13)
When we will have true Jewish Leadership then perhaps we will finally be on the right path. But with current Bolshevik mentality running away from our Jewish heritage and identity coupled with a useless impotent self serving Rabbinate from all groups, we will blunder on like the blind. Heres hoping that Moshe Feiglin will make PM soon. That will only be the beginning of a much needed change. Footnote: Most Rabbonim of our times are of the erev rav as fortold. They have created a false religion revolving around themselves and their uniforms. Just look at the recent comment of who Amalek is by a leading Rabbi, busha v'cherpah.
3. The bride in the wedding analogy..
Dror ,   Haifa, Israel   (07.16.13)
We were like a mourning widow for two thousand years I agree, but this new bride that we have become anxiously awaiting to start something new and to go to the next level, this bride, she is definitely not a virgin and she is not innocent. :-) I hate wedding analogies, although I agree with the author. Israel is the bride of Hashem.
4. Decadent Jews of America
Dror ,   Haifa, Israel   (07.16.13)
No need to worry, soon they will be wishing they invested their future in Israel instead of Kosher Hot dogs at Dodger stadium. I keep being reminded of Seinfeld and that stupid, but funny Larry David show Curb Your Enthusiasm when I think of decadent America Jews.
5. islamization in EU and Israel
albert snow ,   sweden   (07.16.13)
Well well, we who live in EU see and live with the troubles with having muslims inside. But in Israel you have a lot more % muslims than there is in EU. So Israel has a larger ticking bomb inside it´s borders than EU. And besides, Israel is surrounded of hostile muslim states that like hungry wolves wait for a right moment to attack and kill the jewish state. So don´t patronise us jews in the diaspora. Because if you´ll lose a war with the muslims you´ll be needed our help escaping a new Holocost.
6. Yet another piss & moan session about America
Cameron ,   USA   (07.16.13)
7. Today, Israel is as divided
Israeli 2   (07.16.13)
as when the first Temple was destroyed due to Sinat Chinam. I agree with the authors statement when she wrote: "...there is a lot of work yet to be done to build a Jewish State..." As long as we do not base everything on Torah laws, "we mourn because we are so close and yet so far."
8. Tisha B'av
Howie ,   Modiin ,ISRAEL   (07.16.13)
Kol hakavod Yishai!!!
9. kosher??
Madrie ,   spain   (07.16.13)
'Kosher' is a money making business to make men wealthy. There is nothing in the Bible about kosher, it is all man made and will be wiped off the earth. The God of Israel is a loving God and not a God who causes such burden as that crazy 'kosher'. Set yourself free of obligations made by human beings.
10. Author should step out alone for a group picture
Jon S. ,   Fairfax USA   (07.16.13)
When I read articles like this one and especially the incredibly self-absorbed dittohead replies like Dror's, I'm saddened yet further. Due to people like him, to paraphrase Woodie Guthrie, "The haters are rich. Their Judaism is poor. And I ain't got no home in this world anymore." I'll be in Israel with my family July 22 for several weeks to support Haaretz, spend my disdained dollars in Israel, turn my teens onto what good we can find, and visit our loved, missed relatives. But I couldn't live in Israel as it is now. Taliban is Taliban whether Islamic or claiming to be some fantasy parasitic Judaism of Polish medieval descent.
11. #10 keep your money and stay in US
Dror ,   Haifa, Israel   (07.16.13)
your dollars are going to be worthless soon, sucker
12. Interesting how Dror focuses only on the $$
Jon S. ,   Fairfax USA   (07.16.13)
About my expressed support for Israel, turning my teens onto what good we can find, and visit our loved, missed relatives he says nothing. That's the all or nothing attitude that is so sad among too many Jews today. You have quite a bit of self-reflection and t-shuvah to do, my friend. And yeah, I'll be in Israel in 6 days. I'll be visiting my family in Givatayim, Itamar, Haifa, Ariel, and Kibbutz Mizrah. Perhaps we'll cross paths.
13. # 10 Why bother to visit Israel?
BUILD BABY BUILD !!! ,   United States   (07.16.13)
To 'support Haaretz"? WTH? does that mean? Quote Woody Guthrie, ( Don't think he was Jewish, just liberal ) many Jews quote the Torah which dictates Israel importance to Jews, Christian, Muslims, et al.By your tone, you sound more like a pal than a Jew. Israel doesn't need your type there or your few dollars and a lot of resentment. KEEP BUILDING !!!!
14. 5 Snow Malmo is in Sweden...
robert ,   antwerp belgium   (07.16.13)
and Jews are getting persecuted there as well as in other places in Sweden, France, England, Hungary and so on. You may be right about the dangers for Israël but at least it has its own army and is less at the mercy of unfriendly governments (like Sweden)
15. My only legacy, my sons are living in Israel.
Al   (07.16.13)
I have done my job. I bought a burial place in Montreal that is near my late parents for I want to be buried near them. Jewish life in the golus is all about nothing. It is based on 'if it feels good, then do it'. It is not based on our history, beliefs and most importantly our future. Its all about life cycle events and the accompanying party. Were it not for the fact that some Jews in the golus have some money, we Jews who believe in Israel, would not seriously look their way or even consider their predicament. That is the truth. Ironically enough Israel is heading towards great wealth and rising standards of living. The future is Israel. That is the only future for the Jew. The choice for the golus Jew is simple, either move to Israel and flourish or stay in the golus and perish.
16. SELF HATING
ALAN ,   USA   (07.16.13)
I FIND SEINFELD AND DAVID TO BE A RUINATION AS SELF HATING JEWS.
17. As a Chareidi Jewish American
Heshy Friedman ,   Brooklyn NY USA   (07.16.13)
As a Chareidi Jewish American who sees the Torah as our constitution I don't see Israeli secular Jews different from American secular Jews. Everything the secular Jews do here in America the ones in Israel emulate. They both support homosexuality, abortions, sabbath violation, eating treif, and so on. Do you really think that the vast amount of Israeli seculars are waiting for mossiach and the rebuilding of the third Temple. No way! Do they realize that Mossiachs job will be to turn all of Israel into a look alike meah shearim bnei brak country. Willful sinners such as sabbath violators or male homosexuals will be stoned to death. Jews eating non kosher will be flogged 39 painful whippings. Yes observant Jews pray for Mossiachs arrival so they can delve deeper into the Torah without distractions. Mossiach will be heaven for the religious but hell for the secular.
18. SIMILAR RESULTS.....
ALAN ,   USA   (07.16.13)
LAST NIGHT WHILE I SAT FOR THE READING OF EICHA, I READ PART OF IT IN THE ENGLISH, I FOUND IT INTERESTING THAT I COULD REPLACE MANY OF THE WORDS WITH WASHINGTON AND USA AND FIND THE SAME SAME/SIMILAR RESULTS OF WHAT IS TRANSPIRING IN THE US TODAY.
19. To 4..Decadent Jews of America??
(07.16.13)
20. To 7 On the division of Israel?
KK   (07.16.13)
You wrote:s long as we do not base everything on Torah laws, "we mourn because we are so close and yet so far." And why is that..have you ever given a thought as to why? te reason is because of the constant fighting Israel has to contend with to keep te country safe friom the Islamists who want the annihilation of it. And why we ave the IDF & IAF + the Navy to keep you all safe. Terein is the why & wherefores. Think about it..
21. #5 and the ISLAMIZED EU
leslie fried ,   canada   (07.16.13)
dear albert. you don't have to worry about israel "losing a war" against the muslims. the very worst thing will happen that israel will be forced to use the "ultimate" defence....and needing your "help"?... i was there to experience on my own skin the kind of "help" your friends given us IN 1944...
22. #17 Heshy. I abhorr your vision of Moshiach.
shadoil79 ,   Jerusalem   (07.16.13)
You have the envision of a 17 year old.For someone like you to project what those times will look like is as embarrassing as having Deri as a Haredi spokesperson. STAY IN NY PLEASE and do some soul searching.
23. To 10 .
JJ ,   UK   (07.16.13)
And I hope you live to regret what you said . Very cynical and self degredation to be sure. Support Haaretz? What will you gain from them haters all of Israel acting as the enemy within? By the same token they earn their daily bread while cursing the country they live in. Enjoy your misery. You are a bloody fool Well, Haaretz ain't doing all that well financially are they
24. to robert on Sweden etc..
KK   (07.16.13)
Where the police dare not enter Malmo for fear f being attacked by the Islamists there. Not to mention the rest of the European countries that have been(almost) taken over by muslims because of their open door facility. That sooner than later will regret it... BUT BY THEN IT WILL BE TOO LATE.
25. I think the author is wrong
Bryan   (07.16.13)
Actually "they" mourn the murder of 1.4 million Jews by the Romans, and the destruction of the most holy site in Judaism. The temple mount actually is still in ruins, and the Muslims occasionally pillage it with bulldozers and dump trucks, under the guise of "construction". Even if you're secular and see a splendid Muslim shrine on the top, that shrine is still only a sliver of the splendor that once was on the temple mount. Anyways Jews aren't allow to pray there without being arrested. The temple was the spiritual heart of the Jewish people, and it's ruined remains still are for believers. As for kosher hotdog eating Americans on symbolic crusades at baseball games in the land of the rich and the famous, well, let's talk Israel as the home of American Jews. Do American Jews have equal opportunity to find jobs here?Do American Jews have equal benefits compared with Russian and Ethiopian Olim? Are American Jews treated with respect by employers, gov't officials, and social services???? .. NO NO NO!!!!! Israel wants wants wants, and expects total attention and sacrifice by american Jews, like an infant child not yet aware that it's mother is not part of IT, and IT'S not the center of the universe. I'd say that even if it is trivial to get kosher hot dogs at a ball stadium in LA, at least it's not pandering to an over grown 68 year old baby of 8 million people who is spoiled rotten and has no sense of any thing else in the universe.
26. TishaB'Av A very moving article.Nearly>>
KK   (07.16.13)
Nearly brought tears to my eyes/. And in truth too subject the diaspora Jews who have forgotten what: "makes a real Jew" Certainly not those that marry out, even are critical of Israel. We do not need their kind for sure. They are an embarrasment to Judaism . I can go on foreever but truth in essence in the article. However, their problem not Israel's. Funn really(God forfend) Should they be thrown out or attacked where will they relocate? There's only one place that would give them their welcome & safe haven & tyat is Israel. food for thought.
27. To 4..Decadent Jews of America??
Anat   (07.16.13)
Not only in the US but I find Isrel has beconme too americanized. Therein is the biggest problem. For instance the FACT they celebrate "gay day" is unconscionable.. God did not create "man & man" Or women & women. That is one of the biggest insult to Judaism. Cannot fathom it. If they suffer from this problem, then why not keep it quete, coz what you do behind closed doors should remain private rather than exibitting your preferencial (ugly at that) in the streets.
28. The article (to Bryan )
KK   (07.16.13)
The article has no mention of the : SHOA.H. go back and read exactly what the writer said. If it was about Shoah ;We have a special day called: Yom H'a Shoah. See.. You got all mixed up sorry. By the way,all my family live in Israel have done so,even before the Balfour declaration. thought I'd remind & correct you.
29. DISGUSTING!! the HATRED towards FELLOW JEWS living in Galut.
Yochanan ,   Y'layim, IL   (07.16.13)
30. No Difference?
manicdrummer ,   Haifa, Israel   (07.16.13)
No difference between living in Israel and living in the Diaspora? Not for long. In less than a year from now, it'll all hit the fan. Diaspora Jews will be flocking to Israel in record numbers. ALL of them will be here. Read Ezekiel 39:28. This is the time of reckoning, folks. Get ready!
