1. Enough is enough!
Sarah B ,   U.S.A. / Israel   (07.15.13)
Start revoking driver's licenses. And start imposing harsh sentences on those who leave helpless infants and children in locked cars in sweltering weather. A decade or so in prison should bring them around. But no driver's licenses. EVER.
2. Cruel
(07.15.13)
We are turning into China- where children are not valuable and are treated like property. Shameful.
3. 18-month-old toddler in critical condition after being left
Lauren ,   Israel   (07.15.13)
How busy, how distracted, how tired can these parents be that they forget the existence of their infant children ? The other children in these families should be removed from the home and placed in protective services !
4. baby left in car
Tamara ,   Ramat Gan, Israel   (07.15.13)
This is unbelievably tragic. Perhaps it is time to invent some kind of system to be installed in cars to alert people that there are children or pets left inside.
5. Really enough
Tomer ,   Hod Hasharon, Israel   (07.15.13)
There are few of these cases every year. I feel desperately sad for the families - but at the end of the day, it's pure negligence. It isn't just something that "could happen to anyone". As someone commented on Galatz this morning, if an elderly relative with Alzheimers died after being forgotten in a car, there'd be criminal charges and jail time. Why is it different for these poor poor kids? They aren't packages that you might forget - they're human beings! I have twins. When they were small, it was a really struggle travelling with them, especially when tired. But I really can't imagine a situation where I'd be so unaware of their presence in the car that I'd lock them in and walk away.
6. Tamara has a a good idea..
Dror ,   Haifa, Israel   (07.15.13)
I have a one year old baby boy. Never in my wildest imagination can I see myself forgetting him in the car. I always leave the door open when I put him in the baby seat before I enter the car so that he does not suffer from the heat in the car. This is crazy, so many distracted parents that forget their babies, what the hell is wrong with these people?
7. BEWARE of TRANQUILIZER DROGS ! !
ORA ,   JERUSALEM   (07.15.13)
can cause forgetfulness. To confide toddlers to people who swallow tranquiizer drogs is irresponsible.
8. betcha he didn't 4get his smart phone in the car!
Israel ,   Israel   (07.15.13)
I feel for the mother, the father on the other hand is a total twit.
9. Car seat alarms
Aviela ,   Migron RC, Israel   (07.15.13)
An alarm has already been invented that, when the doors are closed, car isn't moving and a child is still in the car seat, it phones the owner's cellphone and/or puts up an alarm in/on the car. This should be mandated equipment in every single carseat sold. This isn't complicated, doesn't have to be expensive and would save lives.
10. Did nobody hear this baby cry?
ORA ,   JERUSALEM   (07.15.13)
If so they are responsible for non-assistance to child in danger.
11. What is up with all these irresponsible parents?
Rachel ,   US   (07.15.13)
12. #6 Dror guess thats what happens
Concerned Parent   (07.15.13)
Guess that what happens when religious parents have so many children to swell the jewish population they just forget how many kids they have.
13. It's always the fathers
g.e   (07.15.13)
It's always the fathers that forget their kids in the car. So sad, so many lives destroyed.
14. What is this new epidemic ? Enough already !
Barbara ,   Haifa Israel   (07.15.13)
Is this some people's answer to budget problems? Yes, I know that is a cruel punch below the belt - but can't help wondering.
15. 2-year-old toddler dies after being left in car
eshkol ,   petak-tikva   (07.15.13)
Families who make such a blunder should be made to pay heavy fine and also they should not be allowed to drive.they should be charged as crime against human.
16. death of baby
Naomi Feinmesser ,   Modiin   (07.15.13)
I am starting a campaign, encouraging people to put the following as their screensaver on their phone/computer: 'DID YOU TAKE THE BABY OUT THE CARSEAT?'
17. This is just another symptom
Sagi   (07.15.13)
of a very very sick society.
18. In my VW car the alarm starts if someone is moving inside
(07.15.13)
the car after the doors got locked! This would have saved life here, its just a little annoying if you try to sleep inside..
19. Sagi, agreed.
Dror ,   Haifa, Israel   (07.15.13)
People need to slow the hell down. So many Israelis are spas heads (spastic) they need to calm the hell down and think. This is why these incidents are occurring repeatedly. Remember the stories of mothers deliberatley killing their babies? That was a couple summers back, also during Ben Hametzarim. This time of year people need to be aware of the forces that are in the air. Not fortuitous for the Jewish people until the end of Nisha B' Av.
20. Life is cheap in the Occupied Territories
miki ,   tampa   (07.15.13)
21. sick sick sick a peoples
Melissa ,   US of Ara   (07.15.13)
what planet are you guys from? uchhhh disgusting behaviour displayed
22. #10 nonsense
Dror ,   Haifa, Israel   (07.15.13)
Israeli Arabs have had this happen to them and also secular Israeli families. True, it is always the dads, which is really pathetic, but it is not always religious families. I only have one child, but when I have more to swell the Jewish population in Israel, I really doubt that I will ever leave one of them to suffocate in the car, G-d forbid. Where is my next baby maker?? Looking for a healthy Jewish womb to inseminate.. :-)
23. This trend is sickening. UGH!
Mark ,   Lodz, Poland   (07.15.13)
24. How can we stop this?
(07.15.13)
Sad to read she passed away. Earlier she was reported to be in a serious condition, I was praying she would pull through.
25. #12 you vile racist
Lila ,   Jerusalem, Israel   (07.15.13)
Non-religious people also leave their kids in cars; people with small families also leave their kids in cars, and it's a pity that you were created without a brain.
26. Symptoms of Heavy Bureaucracy in Israel
Tomer ,   IL   (07.15.13)
All the mad bureaucracy & red tape in Israel drives people mad. The confusion kills people, as they forget what they are doing.
27. Time to criminalize the phenomenon
Brian Cohen ,   Judean Peoples Front   (07.15.13)
It's time to make a new law: anybody who leaves their kid in a car and walks more than 10 meters from the car will be fined 5000 shekels and spend a night in jail. That means leaving your kid "just for a second" to run into the makolet or go to the caspomat will be a criminal offense. No, it does not criminalize forgetting your kid in the sun - but it criminalizes getting out of your car and walking away for any reason ...meaning it will raise awareness. It will also prevent one or two kidnappings that also occur every year or two when idiot parents leave babies in the car WITH THE ENGINE RUNNING while the run somewhere "just for a second" and have the car stolen with the baby in it. You can't outlaw stupidity, but you can make it expensively painful for anybody who leaves their kid in a car for any stupid reason. The answer, of course, is to park your car, remove all the people inside, double check that the car is indeed empty of people, then go do what you have to do. The facts are obvious that 3 people so far in the past month failed the stupidity test and killed their babies.
28. No. 20 Miki
NYC Girl   (07.15.13)
Then, apparently, life is cheap in the good old USA...because the same thing has happened here on a number of occasions. Not only that, but you might want to save the snarky comments for people who actually believe the nonsense you write about Israel.
29. #22 yes it's always the Dads...and
Israeli ,   Haifa   (07.15.13)
It's ALWAYS a baby GIRL. They would NEVER forget their SONS. Too busy, too distracted, too indifferent.
30. Lies, lies and damn statistics?
Shocked and appalled ,   Tel Aviv   (07.15.13)
20 babies left in cars in USA in the year to date. That's 1:16 million. In Israel, that's 3 in just 2 weeks - a ratio of 1:2.6 million. This is a country known to be one of the most technologically advanced in the world. So, it must be asked, again, how is it that there isn't a soul in Israel who can stand a minute without a cellular phone (even just to take a pee, for heaven's sake), yet fails to notice a missing baby?
