Derech eretz kadma letorah!
2. This is a news story?
Ed Ford ,   Tel Aviv, Israel   (07.15.13)
"Daniela called the police but decided to leave the scene a few minutes later "...so, in other words, this person tells Ynet something and it is printed as fact. Is there some reason why we should believe it (or not believe it)? Why is this being reported at all?
3. i am outraged,and knowing that...
ORA ,   JERUSALEM   (07.15.13)
worse things happen everyday in the secular world is not a consolation.
4. modesty ?
yosef, phd ,   usa -israel   (07.15.13)
Good advise: "Do not pull a sleeping dog by its ears.." Stay away from the one neighborhood (5% of Jerusalem), where you know that there is a risk of upsetting the denizens - they are not going to change their standards any more than you yours.
5. When I went to Jerusalem, I wore a black elbow length blouse
Rivkah   (07.15.13)
and a black below the knee skirt and no one attacked me or called me immodest or spat on me even though I went to the Kotel and passed many orthodox and ultra-orthodox men and women and children. Being casual in Jerusalem is not pleasing to the Lord. He hates women with wanton eyes and casual dress in His city is similar to wanton eyes. The Lord wants women to be modest in their attire. If a woman's attire in Jerusalem causes a male to give a wolf whistle or want to whistle then it is not appropriate attire for the Holy City. No one would think of wearing jeans and a t-shirt and no head covering to the Vatican, at least they didn't when I went there in the 1950's. If a woman wears dresses and skirts, there should be pantaloons or shorts under the dress that are not seen. The Lord can see them and that is what matters. Little children who are godly wear shorts under their skirts if their mothers love the Lord and want the children's clothes to reflect that. For underpants to show is provocative and could put the child or woman's chastity in danger of being violated. A white t-shirt is an undershirt in most cultures. If the woman had worn a black t-shirt to show her respect for the destruction of the Temples, perhaps she would not have been spat upon if the jeans were not form fitting but a skirt is more appropriate when in God's land which is Jerusalem, Mount Ararat, Petra, and the Great Pyramid of Egypt. God claims ownership to those four places although He created the earth. The Great Pyramid of Egypt is the cornerstone of the earth according to the Book of Job.
6. Learn from Egypt. Haredim are the Muslim Brohood in Israel.
Michael ,   California, USA   (07.15.13)
Law enforcement carried out properly knows no neighborhoods and no streets can be excluded. All of Jerusalem must see laws enforced for all of its citizens equally on all days of the week.
7. Next time KICK them in the family jewles.
Yanky ,   Baltimore   (07.15.13)
8. I wore dresses with elbow length sleeves in Israel
Rivkah   (07.15.13)
and was not spat upon by the Orthodox or Ultra-Orthodox or Haredim even though there are a lot of them at the Sheba Medical Center as visitors and employees and helpers. At times I wore black trousers that were loose fitting and I was not spat upon or insulted by the religious. So it is probably the form fitting jeans and undershirt (white t-shirt) that seemed inappropriate in God's land to the religious who were upset by that in public.
9. to #6 Michael
Ivan ,   Haifa   (07.15.13)
You are 100% right, secular israelis are so stupids, they let religious and settlers to control the policies.
10. A white t-shirt is an undershirt in many cultures. A white
Rivkah   (07.15.13)
t-shirt without a bra can be very provocative as can form fitting jeans. It is disrespectful to the Lord to wear such attire in His land and particularly in Jerusalem. When I visited Sheba Medical Center in Tel Hashomer in 2006 and 2007, I was not spat upon or insulted by the many Orthodox people who work there or visit there or are families of patients because I dressed modestly in loose fitting black trousers and a black elbow length blouse or dresses or skirts that were modest not provocative. The black undershirts I had there that I wore under the blouses were knifed in the hotel room by a maid even though that is not what I wore in public without a shirt or blouse covering over the t-shirt.
11. #4 yosef
DavidR ,   USA   (07.15.13)
There was nothing immodest about how she was dressed. Your suggestion to stay away from the neighborhood is a cowardly way of advising people. Is Israel not free? Does she not have the right to go where she pleases in her own country? Are all academics cowards? Is your boasted phd in how to grovel and tremble before the mighty haredim?
12. Defending them?
Jordan Ariel ,   USA   (07.15.13)
And people are defending these creeps? I'm relatively sure that these Haredim have violated a Commandment or two by their actions. I am a Male, and i suggest to the lady involved invest in some pepper spray or mace and let these holier than thou hooligans learn a burning lesson.
13. Ivan, I exclude Jerusalem from cities I visit in Israel.
Michael ,   California, USA   (07.15.13)
This herem will be kept until the police/government enforce laws and order is restored in the city. If I'll want to visit Muslim Brotherhood I will go to Cairo.
14. #5 Rivkah
DavidR ,   USA   (07.15.13)
Your suggestion is silly. Modesty should be practiced everywhere. It is no more wrong to dress immodestly in Yerushalayim than anywhere else. Immodesty is immodesty and wrong no matter where you are. As for the Vatican, if you consider that a holy place it speaks tons about your spiritual understanding.
15. she was insulted twice.
DavidR ,   USA   (07.15.13)
Once by the haredim and once by Y-Net that called her immodest in their headline. Once again, Rivkah, we hear you. You did not need to say it three times. You dressed to suit the Israeli terrorists. I don't understand why you are so proud of your groveling. Also, once again, it is no more inappropriate to dress immodest in Israel than anywhere else in the world. You should dress everyday as if you were on Temple Mount. Clean and modest.
16. To Rivkah
Kori ,   Ashdod   (07.15.13)
Until you meet 'The Lord' and he specifically tells you that he does not like women wearing t-shirts and jeans, please keep your fantasies to yourself. What kind of a woman would justify acts of violence against another woman??? Especially over jeans and a tshirt.
17. 3 , seculars do not pretend to have higher standards
Charles ,   Petach Tikva   (07.15.13)
but they will not attack a charedi woman because of her "clothes" . And , what happens in the secular world ? Where are your "rabbanim" to condemn this ?
18. To#10: Did you report the maid????
EST ,   Miami USA   (07.15.13)
I hope you did. They are paid to clean the room NOT to go through your things ... forget about damaging them!!!
19. White T Shirt
SML ,   Massachusetts, USA   (07.15.13)
'...The black undershirts I had there that I wore under the blouses were knifed in the hotel room by a maid even though that is not what I wore in public without a shirt or blouse covering over the t-shirt. ..." You do see something wrong with that? It does seem a little extreme to you doesn't it? Last I looked Israel is not the Vatican, there is no established dress code for an entire city such as Jerusalem and the Haredim are not the official arbiters of Israeli culture. Maybe compare the area around the Wall with the Vatican whose area is measured in acres not square miles - but nobody spits on and throws garbage at not-quite-modeslty-dressed women in the Vatican. The direction of this Haredi extremist anti-woman violence is towards Saudi Arabia; one would have to go there or maybe to the tribal areas of Pakistan or Afghanistan to find the equivalent.
20. 2. She filled a police report; it is therefore news
(07.15.13)
The haradim had zero right to interfere with this woman ... they are subject to the same rules and laws as are ALL people within Israel. I hope that they a caught and prosecuted.
21. 5. They have the right to post signs that say their opinion
(07.15.13)
They DO NOT have the right to spit, accost, or verbally ATTACK anyone as a consequence of their OPINION.
22. DISGUSTING!
les ,   canada   (07.15.13)
barbaric taliban disquised as "jews".
23. modesty?
madrie ,   spain   (07.15.13)
well said that the women should be dressed modestly. Above all, modest clothing is far more elegant and more feminine than jeans. If a woman wants to be dressed as the world is dressed then Israel is not your place and certainly not the Holy City Jerusalem. That woman in jeans should repent in silence and get dressed elegantly and beautiful the way God wants it.
24. davidR to rivka
madrie ,   spain   (07.15.13)
'davidR' thinks he knows everything. DavidR if you can't write anything kind, stay away then. Rivka started to share good things, thanks Rivka and continue!!
25. to Ora, Jerusalem
Madrie ,   spain   (07.15.13)
the secular world will come to an end. Unbelievers donot belong in God's Land. They even deprive the religious and the haredim from daily necessities, because they are greedy wolves, they are dictators!
26. to #7
madrie ,   spain   (07.15.13)
see here, a comment of the secular world. Most terrible and filthy!
27. to #9
Madrie ,   spain   (07.15.13)
in Israel the laws of God are followed up, if you don't want that then you are an unbeliever and you belong outside Israel.
28. to #11
Madrie ,   spain   (07.15.13)
Israel is the land of God and men and women must dress modestly. If they don't want to dress themselves according to what God says then they should not visit or live in Israel. These women walk along the roads with bottles for a certain reason, also this doesnot belong in Israel.
29. Madrie , you are a bigot , not less UNWORTHY
Charles ,   Petach Tikva   (07.15.13)
that those charedim . And , i asked you how a soldier living in Mea Shearim should go home . But you remained silent . Remain silent forever . You and this other bigot , who stole a Jewish name , this rivkakaka , are not even Jewish .
30. stealing my religion
benfivel ,   Jerusalem Israel   (07.15.13)
These people need constant adult supervision. They are not religious. The are a cultural remnant.
