1. Here's what to do
(07.17.13)
Have any company or institute asked pledge not to operate beyond the Green Line, then continue operating beyond the Green Line. Limit the EU's ability to gather evidence of this by restricting the movement of EU staff beyond the Green Line. This will dare the Europeans to either impose full sanctions on Israel or back down. And given Israel's centrality to the world of technology, sanctions are not an option.
2. Ashton <--> Sotero
Beary White ,   Norway   (07.17.13)
Which sect does Catherine Ashton belong to? Opposing sotero, she must be a shia-clan member. Lets start to investigate her earlier actions and deeds..which are not set in system...
3. We've become South Africa
(07.17.13)
We either declare war and annex Judea and Samaria or we'll end up in a 9 miles wide ghetto. There is no time left to buy.
4. Insane
Eyal Pintz ,   Tel Aviv   (07.17.13)
Reading the talkbacks here we can only come to one conclusion: we are all crazy. We should be thankful for the Europeans for not boycotting all Israel. Instead we buying a fight with 28 countries that have always supported us in the international fora. Europe, specially, face huge internal constraints to back Israel. Leaders many times go against public opinion to support Israel. Wake up to reality. There is no Land of Israel. If there was one, we had not accepted the Partition Plan and Jerusalem as an "International Corpus". Had the Arabs accepted it, we would be gladly living without Jerusalem today. So, let's be happy with what we got. And let's make it a good and decent country. Respected by all. Settlers are criminals and they don't speak for the Israeli nation.
5. Ideology Gone Mad.
JaseR ,   Aussie Land   (07.17.13)
I don't like this decision but I also am not happy with the incessant effort to expand the settlement block. There is something ugly about it. Israel needs to formulate policy in terms of its interests rather than in terms of ideology. Building settlements as a strategic buffer against Arab invaders made sense. Strategic depth. Like the security zone in southern Lebanon, when the costs of maintaining it outweighed the benefits (seemingly), the State let it go. The same should go for the Territories. Rational calculus. Unfortunately, however, the debate has been hijacked by ideologues. The people who founded the State were happy with what they got in 1948. It seems younger generations are far greedier!
6. This has Obama's fingerprints all over.To put pressure on IL
Alan ,   SA   (07.17.13)
7. For heavens' sake Israel stop
DT ,   TA Israel   (07.17.13)
pandering to EU thugs and bullies. For once have the courage to stand up for yourseelf.
8. Heh
Alex   (07.17.13)
Israel's "centrality" to world technology? If they want to embargo us, they can no problem. Stop with the charade.
9. The move by the EU is to prejudge the outcome of peace talks
Jehudah Ben-Israel ,   Qatzrin, Israel   (07.17.13)
which are based on UN Security Council Resolution, 242, 1967. Indeed, it is also an attempt to prejudge the outcome of peace talks that should lead to the Final Status Agreement based on the Sept. 1995 Interim Agreement between Israel and the Palestine Liberation Organization (PLO). Two illustration: 1. 242 calls upon Israel to retreat the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) to "secure and recognized boundaries", not to the "1967 lines", and certainly not from either "all" or "the" territories, only from "territories". This resolution by the EU determines, in advance, the boundaries which even international law doesn't, and the EU, last time I checked, is not even part of the region. 2. The question of "settlements", with which the EU member states appear to have difficulties, is to be resolve, by mutual consent between Israel and the Palestine Liberation Organization (PLO) during the peace talks leading to the Final Status Agreement. So, why not demand of the PLO to come to the table and talk peace instead of telling Israel, in advance, how to conduct its affairs within the context of the 1995 Interim Agreement between Israel and the PLO? Isn't it a left-over of European sense of superiority over the other, and specifically over the Jew...??
10. In response to the EU's Jew-Hatred
Paul ,   Jerusalem   (07.17.13)
sent Kerry home, based on the conclusion that the EU, and Obama is imposing a final solution reminiscent of WWII. At a time when Arabs are eating each other on the streets, and Jews need every protection from the deranged war-mongering Jihadists, the dying Western nations goes about its policy of undermining Jews and supporting the Jihad, in spite of every rational reason against such a policy.
11. Israel is not without resources
Sarah B ,   U.S.A. / Israel   (07.17.13)
If the European Union wants to strut about like a bantam rooster, fine, let it. Here's a thought: Israel controls a significant number of patents on every computer, laptop and notebook sold anywhere in the world. Israel also controls one-half of the patents on every single mobile phone, iPad and Smartphone sold anywhere in the world. Israel can choose to reject the proceeds of any of these items sold in Europe, and opt to cancel the licensing technology contracts on any potential sales in Europe. Alternatively, Israel can make those license agreements prohibitively expensive. Imagine a Europe with no mobile phone technology. Imagine a Europe without computers, laptops and notebooks. Do keep in mind that Israel can yank the licensing at a moment's notice. That's just the tip of the iceberg. Israel can yank the licensing rights on its chemotherapy protocols. Imagine a Europe full of dead cancer patients. It's not exactly "tough love." More like "tough hate." But you have to bring the overblown Europeans to their knees. They are no longer a power to contend with. In less than a generation, all of Europe will be an Islamic cesspool. If they want to play softball, Israel should play hardball. Hit them where it hurts. The continent that sat back and observed idly while six million Jews were slaughtered deserves no less. Actually, they deserve considerably worse, but we can get to that down the road. One thing of which I am certain: if Europe continues on its present course, Israel can bring its considerable technological prowess and its medical and pharmacological discoveries to bear. Patents are a powerful thing. Israel can bring this already bankrupt continent to its knees in expensive lawsuits during which any violators will be enjoined from using ANY Israeli developed and perfected technology. Just do it. Teach them a lesson. The Europeans need to learn their place in the world. It isn't what it used to be.
12. European sanctions
LORRAINE melzer ,   Israel   (07.17.13)
Finally it is happening - what great relief-we have seen this about to happen ever since we came to live here 43 years ago! Maybe and only maybe this will help us all to face reality and stop living in a dreamworld. How long can you suppress another nation without consequences??????
13. well I'm just flummoxed, shocked and surprised!
Jew with Cojones ,   Israel   (07.17.13)
You mean that because the government of the State of Israel was busy: 1. Increasing our taxes 2. Cutting back our benefits. 3. Running up to the Temple Mount declaring that "its ours, its ours" 4. playing footsie with the Chinese by refusing to testify against them in the terrorist money laundering case in the USA and thereby ensuring that P.M. Mr. & Mrs. Netanyahu and their boys would have a very nice Chinese adventure with plenty of photo ops at the Great Wall. 5. finding a way to get Frankel (who stole perfume from the Duty Free in Hong Kong AND a ton of money from the Israeli taxpayers) elected as the Governor of the Bank of Israel 6. organizing to create TWO private ports instead of fixing the government run ones. 7. giving HUGE tax breaks to a whole host of large, healthy and profitable companies such as TEVA, Tzuva Oil, and the Dead Sea works AND neutralizing 8. the Israeli Foreign Ministry by creating the following positions: a. Minister of International Affairs - Yuval Steinitz b. Minister of Justice Tzipi Livni responsible for negotiations with the Palestinians. c. P.M. Mr. Netanyahu as care taker Foreign Minister waiting for Mr. Avigdor Liberman to finish his criminal trial the government MISSED out on recognizing ALL of the warning signs and signals of this upcoming European action? and NOW all they can do is damage control? Well I am just flummoxed (perplexed)! I am actually left wondering: 1. and how are they going to fix this? 2. and how much will it cost me a normative middle class Israeli taxpayer?
14. Move Baby, Move
Gilda Cohen ,   Rome   (07.17.13)
Israel has now to decide if it worth to fight the world for the sake of some thousand fanatics. Israel could be a normal country, respected and prosperous were not the settlements. Israel will soon be listed as a rogue State alongside Iran, North Korea and Sudan. Does it worth?
15. EU killed Economic part of Kerry's plan
Eric ,   Tel Aviv & NY   (07.17.13)
The EU move more or less kills any chance of the Economic Plan that Kerry has been hinting about as it would include projects in the very areas that the EU has now vowed to not fund project in. Thus the EU has shot its self and Kerry in the foot by saying we want peace talks and will offer economic inducements and will fund project but can not do it in the disputed areas. Typical EU catch 22.
16. It's amazing to me...
חחחחחחחחחחחחחחחחח... ,   Israel   (07.17.13)
How much Jew hate there is out there in the world...and even right here at home amongst us. Some of the worst Jew bashing comes from other Jews, especially left wingers. Destruction from the inside out. Who needs Europe, Muslim states and the US to do it?
17. 14# Have you heard of appeasement
Norbus ,   JERUSALEM   (07.17.13)
Or death by a thousand cuts? You do not appreciate living in the plush comfort and affluence of Rome that this is an existential fight, as Jew haters all over want to finish Hitler's project.
18. To: No. 14
Sarah B ,   U.S.A. / Israel   (07.17.13)
Was Israel a respected country before 1967? Can you get it through your extraordinarily dim brain that the only thing that will make the international community happy would be for Israel to cease to exist? Do you think anti-Semitism has gone away? Well, it hasn't. It has morphed into an irrational hatred of that most tangible of Jewish symbols -- the State of Israel. By the way -- just as a matter of information -- the overwhelming majority of Israelis living in Judea and Samaria are simply ordinary people. Not "fanatics." Israel does not want to "fight the world." But we will not roll over and play dead, either. I submit to you that the problem rests with the Europeans -- and others -- who mistakenly believe that if only there were (yet another) independent ersatz "Palestinian" terrorist state, everything in the world will be hunky-dory. Well, that's just not the case. And anyone who possesses a rational brain and can call upon an ounce of common sense realizes that a policy which creates one set of laws for the State of Israel and another set of laws for every other sovereign state cannot be sustained. Where are your outcries for the tormented, TRULY occupied people of Tibet? Tibet was not an aggressor. The Chinese just attacked. They have absolutely no historical claim to Tibet. Jordan, on the other hand, attacked Israel in 1967. They LOST. Boo, hoo, hoo. You cannot undo the outcome of wars. You are really quite an ignorant twit. I suggest you acquire an education. I'm sure there's a wonderful third-grade somewhere within walking distance of your home. Of course, you can always ride the yellow school bus. Hopefully, no one will fire a missile or mortar at you. Probably not a major concern for you in Rome, but a possibility with which all Israelis must live. You should be ashamed of yourself.
19. EU is an enemy of the Jewish State of Israel
Cipora Julianna Kohn   (07.17.13)
the eu has no authority to determine the borders of the sovereign state of israel. an effective boycott of israel is a violation of international law. israel should annex area C immediately. the presence of european embassies, eu embassies, should be much reduced. all european funded ngo's should be kicked out of israel. Israel should stop giving intelligence to the europeans and should stop all technology transfers. israel should stop importing from europe, especially cars and non-essential items. israel should not panic and should seriously prepare to find other commercial partners. israel should also take care of iran, since now is the most propitious time to do so.
20. 6 Alan SA, correct
Cipora Julianna Kohn   (07.17.13)
this has obama's fingerprints all over it. yet it would torpedo kerry's attempt to restart negotiations. israel should tell obama that if the eu does not desist, israel will stop all negotiations.
21. The only "Control" is to take control of Judea& Samaria as
tom ,   tel aviv   (07.17.13)
fully annexed Israeli territory.
22. Make peace already!!!
Misha ,   Milan, Italy   (07.17.13)
Israelis and Jews are geniuses at everything except for making peace with the Palestinians. It's unbelievable...!!
23. The EU have pushed Jews into a corner.
Dee Bee ,   Israel   (07.17.13)
Will they ever learn that this will come back and bite them in the butt? On the other hand, the Prime Minister said he will not allow anyone to harm the Settlers. So what takes precedence, the fanatical ideology of the extreme right or the welfare of 7 million Israelis in the Green Line? Can Israel afford to antagonize both the EU and the US which is already starting to turn its back on Israel? A return to the 1967 borders is a no brainer but equally stupid is the concept that you can suppress the aspirations of a people and a 65 year old Israel is the perfect example. Some say call the EU's bluff. The EU might be calling Netanyahu's bluff about his Two State Solution proclamations!
24. Israel has been backed into a corner
LU ,   Israel   (07.17.13)
We have two options now: 1. Give up Judea an Samaria and resort to pre-1967 borders. 2. Annex area C and become the apartheid state that everyone's been warning about. There is no win-win situation for Israel. Both options present very difficult scenarios and hardships for us.
25. # 11 This cannot be serious
Gilda Cohen ,   Rome   (07.17.13)
Do you really believe Israel controls all the technology of the world? Really? Do you really think the world depends on Israel? Do you think 7 billion people are hostage of 8 million Israelis? Do you think you are all that important? This is purely schizophrenia. A complete state of mental dissociation from reality. Israel is going downhill, the Government is desperate trying to avoid the worst and you pretend to be the big boss? You said all this two years ago to the Turks and now your are paying indemnizations of one million dollars. Call your shrink immediately.
26. *13 You are actually LEFT
Tambour ,   Eilat   (07.17.13)
27. @4
Reuven ,   Netanya   (07.17.13)
Most of us would do well in the USA: - not a single clue of how the world operates - think we are the best and certainly never to blame - we can do what we want (chosen ones remember) - instead of analyzing a situation, no we attack first and think about it later - too much religious influence on day to day life - etc ... We are doomed if we are unable to lift our IQ% by a couple of points, the majority among us came or from the desert of from Eastern Europe and still, after all these years, have a backward mentality.
28. Dearest Sarah B @ # 11 EXCELLENT article
Israeli 2   (07.17.13)
and OH so true! Just answer me ONE question, PLEASE: Why are one of our biggest fools and traitors and cowards with last names like COHEN???? Thanks.
29. EU, Obama need to understand
Cipora Julianna Kohn   (07.17.13)
israel will not give up the golan. the holy city of david will remain forever an essential part of the sovereign jewish state of israel. the areas of judea-samaria which are necessary for the national security of israel will remain part of israel. nor does Israel need gen, allan to tell Israel what is needed for her security. the idf high command is much better equipped to decide Israel's security needs. the eu and obama need to understand that they do not have the legal authority to determine the borders of a sovereign nation, and any such attempt would be a violation of the un charter. they also must keep in mind that israel has a very powerful military.
30. Israel had 50 years to make peace
Non jewish Immigrant ,   Haifa.   (07.17.13)
Since it holds power over the Palestinians, only Israel can engage the peace process. Israel's policy has been for so many years too vague.. claiming on one side that it's supporting a two state solution and on another side keeping building and settling a military occupied territory (which is illegal according International Laws). For too long Israel has been bullying the Palestinians without giving them any rights. Now the EU is finally waking up, and cannot continue to be part of this ugly situation and therefore decided to take step. Kol Hakavod the EU. Some Israelis might not realize it yet, but it's only for the sake of Israel. Israel is very lucky the EU doesn't boycott the entire nation. I think it's rather complyient to Israel. Today I am really proud to be a European citizen and at last I can say that being a Union and working together can actually bring changes. Kol Hakavod and keep up the good work!
