Yer kiddin, right? So what you are saying is that if a certain country has anti-boycott laws in place, this will legally prevent other countries from boycotting them? An israeli law makes it impossible for other countries to boycott Israel? Truly? Why didn't South-Africa think of that. The EU only has to ignore your proposed lawsuit and let the judges rule whatever they like, for all the freakin good it does them. It won't lift the boycott, which isn't even a boycott. The just stoppd funding Israeli entities operating beyond the green line, that's all. Hardly a boycott, is it? Or do you think the EU is going to let Israeli judges decide for them what they can or cannot fund? Your case would be thrown out of court within two minutes, including lunch break.
32. So....
Gila ,   Beit Shemesh, Israel   (07.19.13)
So, go ahead and officially annex part of Judea and Samaria, publish and embrace the Levy Report and take the EU to court over the legality of their stand over the Jewish "settlements".
33. Anti-Semitism. All Else is Commentary.
Reuven Brauner ,   Raanana, Israel   (07.19.13)

David Clarke ,   Liverpool,England   (07.19.13)
You are of course correct in your definition of what the EU has done in regards to Israeli settlements. Europe strongly supports Israels existence within its internationally defined borders and wishes to maintain its lucrative and mutually beneficial trade with Israel. The EU also supports a two-state solution and does not accept the legitimacy of West Bank settlements which is why they have restricted trade to Israels internationaly recognised borders, they have not and will not boycott Israel and undermine its legitimacy within its legitimate borders but will never support the settlements which are illegal under every law on earth, many are even illegal under Israeli law. Unfortunately there is no point explaining the position of Europe and European politics or even international politics and relations in regards to Israel on here to some people. Many of them are racists and Islamaphobes who know little of the world outside of fundamentalist evangelical Christianity and jewish religious extremism. They most likely have never travelled outside of New York, the deep south of the united states or Maale adumim and know little of the wider world let alone Europe, the best response you will get talking about Europe is being called an anti-Semite for not supporting the mass deportation of Arabs from the West bank or just getting irrational personal insults about your race and religion for supporting Israeli-Palestinian peace, these people are consumed with their hate, paranoia and racist religious extremism it's best to let them fester in their hate caves than trying to strike up a polite conversation with them.
35. Harold- YOU Wise Up
Yishai Kohen ,   YeShA, Israel   (07.19.13)
The EU is in financial free-fall and the Middle East (except for Israel) is on fire and ready to explode. The last thing the EU needs to deal with is a pissing match with Israel.

Sarah B ,   Tel Aviv/London   (07.19.13)
The Israeli government is not going to go to an International Court and ask them to decide whether the European Union decision to cease aid to the settlements in the West Bank or The Golan is illegal. You really haven't thought that one through have you? As for an Israeli court deciding that distinguishing between Israel and the occupied territories being illegal risks the European Union walking away from Israel completely, and so again the Israeli government not likely to pursue it I suppose you could try the United States, but again likely the Judge will throw it out on the instructions of the State Department as they will not want the legal status of the settlements explored to deeply before a peace agreement I politely suggest you go back to the during board, you really haven't thought it through
37. EU Funding
HAppysettler   (07.19.13)
This is really terrible news because I was in the process of applying for a large financial grant to change the toilet seat in my 4x4 caravan high up here in the hills. What will I do now? Perhaps Miss Universe Ashton can lend me a few euro.
38. To # 21 Sarah B - London
Stan ,   Israel   (07.19.13)
Thank you for telling # 6 Sarah B. the truth. These "Stiff necked people" don't realise what will happen to Israel if things continue as they are. Boycotts will increase, not only by Europe, finally there will be economic, political, and sport boycotts (as happened to S.A.)
39. "Thank you, Europe" for ensuring that peace talks don't
Jehudah Ben-Israel ,   Qatzrin, Israel   (07.19.13)
proceed. You see, the Arabs are now convinced that their demands will be delivered to them on a silver platter by others, so why compromise? Why accept Israel's RIGHT to be, to exist as the sovereign nation-state of the Jewish people if they don't need to do so? Why accept a peace treaty as the end of the conflict and the end of all future demands, if Europe continues with its illegal and unethical push of the Jews back into their ghetto so that it will be easier for the Arabs to try again to set that ghetto on fire and bring about the final solution of the Jewish people? You, Europe, seem to have learnt nothing from your own past, nothing, sadly!!
40. So many ridiculous comments
spyguy ,   seattle   (07.19.13)
Israel has no options. - If Israel refuses to provide pharmaceuticals, the rest of the world will just ignore the Israeli patents and make their own, destroying the market for Israeli pharmaceuticals forever. - Suing non-Israeli companies in Israeli courts is worthless and will just cause non-Israeli companies to withdraw all their investments in Israel, starving the private sector for funding. - Israel has no court it can take Europe to. Israel can try to take the EU to the UNSC, where they will be promptly ignored and vetoed by the UK, France, Russia and China. The US will be impotent to help Israel. - Israel does not provide any critical technology the world can not get elsewhere and withholding technology will just ensure that Israeli companies permanently lose market share as other companies dominate the market. - Israeli anti-boycott laws are useless and unenforceable. Sue all you want, because the judgements will be ignored. Eventually Israelis will finally figure out they are less than 0.01% of the world population and have zero power and will have to submit to the will of the world, until then their huge egos will bring forth more and more hubris.
41. It is of some interest that the EU continues to fund Hamas,
Jehudah Ben-Israel ,   Qatzrin, Israel   (07.19.13)
a designated international terror organization, through the PA that "pays for the salaries of the government employees in Gaza", Hamas "state". Will Europe apply its ethics to the Aras as well, or it is only Jews who must be singled out and be denied funding and business activity? I suppose it is the latter, since Europe has perfected its skill , for centuries, in singling out Jews and deny them that which it doesn't deny anyone else.
42. Israel is too courageous to submit to leftist fearmongering.
Chaim ,   Israel   (07.19.13)
The very fact that leftists try to scare Israel means that, deep inside, even they know their agenda is bad for Israel. Even they know there is no rational reason for Israel to do the stupid self destructive things they recommend. Just as mobsters try to scare their prospective victims into doing self destructive things, Israeli leftists try to scare Israel into doing stupid self destructive things. Israel will not be scared into following their sick path.
43. 39 thank you, jehuda, for exposing the European so well
David Dunn ,   Ireland   (07.19.13)
44. Let's make business with China
Yossef   (07.19.13)
I had a chinese student, very smart! Who need this old, dying, anti-Semite, old continent. China, India, Russia, Pakistan, Tajikistan, Uzbekistan etc. All these countries would be happy, and us with them" to make business and exchange academics.
45. #5 Anton to Joge
David Israel ,   New York, USA   (07.19.13)
In the past 20 years medication prices went so high in the USA for US made drugs that today TEVA is the major provider of drugs to USA only because prices. However there is more to it. Most cancer chemo therapies are developed in Israel by Jewish researchers at Israeli Universities mostly with Israeli funding. many American but also Chinese, Korean, Indian, European, many Philippine students and researchers go to Israel for graduate studies in pharmaceuticals and genetics engineering. It is true that under the kind of pressure Israelis put modesty aside and brag about their real achievements. Considering all the attacks to them from people posting here they can be excused I suppose. But it is not much different than the Turks over p;laying their strategic importance in the ME. After all USA did no need Turkish soil to invade Iraq.
46. Act of War
Bill Stein ,   USA   (07.19.13)
In my opinion If any country threatens Israel with a blockaid economic boycott embargos and starvation, blockaid or destruction that to me is a act of war against Israel and Israel should treat it as sort as a policy. In My Opinion Israel should develop a policy as a country to protect herself from Boycotts and threats. In my opinion Israel as a policy should develop a policy of mutually assured destruction just like other countries. Those countries who are at odds with Israel including so called friends now have no fear of Israel and seek to harm Israel both militarily, economically, and politically. Israel is not a Third World country but a highly technical and militarily advanced country. Israel has the power to develop both a technical a.k.a. cyber warfare, and a military based deterrence as well as a legal deterrence such as lawsuits against organizations that boycott. Israel in my opinion should be prepared to use such a policy in the event that she is threatened with her existence by any country. That threat to existence would include in my opinion threats to blockade, economic starvation, military threats, and diplomatic isolation. The only way in my opinion that Israel will survive and be respected as an independent country is for Israel to start acting as independent country instead of a Third World colonial province who is scared of what other countries think and does what is best for other countries instead of what is best for Israel. Israel also in my opinion must start to consider new potential threats from the south and start building up her Army especially armored forces to meet the threat. Israel must force in my opinion force every country that has diplomatic relations with Israel to move their embassy to Jerusalem. Israel should determine what capital she has not the world

You just made me laugh. A tiny insect is threathning an elephant. What a laughing jock. Never forget 73 percent of Israel's export goes to Europe and you know what I mean. You and your followers have to wise-up too.
48. There goes that Dutch shaver
Ron ,   oc us   (07.19.13)
I will be boycotting Europe. If not putting hezbollah on a terror list is not enough the EU boycotts Israel. Screw the EU.
49. We are comitting suicide, please join us
Etienne Prinsloo ,   Nova Scotia Canada   (07.19.13)
Europe is being colonized by Islam, with massive support from the liberals whom adopted Islam after their previous darling namely communism collapsed. They believe that destroying Israel will appease their new masters and somehow make them feel better about themselves. Without the vaguest idea of the situation on the ground they fancy themselves superior political experts with the right to destroy a sovereign contry, namely the State of Israel. Economically Europe is in shambles but instead of addressing this problem they seek to have Israel join them in comitting suicide. Something this absurd can only come from Europe and the European union. Liberal Europe and Islam share one common goal- the total destruction of Israel and all it's people.
50. Ordinary Israelis....
Michael ,   Haifa   (07.19.13)
...who couldn't care less one way or another over the settlements or this particular EU sanction, will only truly appreciate the price of settlement policy, when they have to apply for visas to visit each and any EU country on their Israeli passports.
51. #40.spyguy: this is not 1939. mind you
Tom W ,   USA   (07.19.13)
The time when your ilk started the pogroms in EU against defenseless Jews is passé. Sure, the current Marxist regimes both in the E.U. and the U.S. keep trying to stoke up the hatred against Israel, but be aware: NOT everybody is supporting the antisemitic policy of the Obama-Ashton duo. There are decent people both in the E.U. and U.S. who will thwart the left's diabolic design to eradicate the Jewish State. You cannot stir up the mass hysteria against Israel worldwide again: you represent only the antisemitic, Jihad-loving Obamista leftists goons. You're not the "will of the world" - that's slogan is only coming from the sick mind of the Red Fascists like you and your mentor, Obama.
52. Pull up your boot straps and open new doors
Arnold ,   Montreal-Canada   (07.19.13)
I would like to see if China, Japan, South Korea , and other countries will now be ready to pick up the slack. I think they are ready for more trade with Israel.
53. #51 Tony W
Ivor Evenbiggergun   (07.19.13)
It is not a pogrom either. Under International Law the settlements in the West Bank and Golan are deigned illegal. The European Union is merely applying international law. I remind you, in casy you don't know, or don't understand. Israel has not been boycotted by the European Union, Israelis with no business links with the West Bank and the Golan will still be able to be recipients of European Aid. Even the settlements will be able to trade with Europe if their products are correctly labelled.

David ,   Limoges, France   (07.19.13)
You might want to keep that Dutch shaver as the Dutch government is the only EU government that DOES have Hezbullah on its terror list in its entirety, even if the EU as an institution does not itself. That is far more than I can say of my own government.
55. Return the favor
Jonathan M ,   Skokie and Efrat   (07.19.13)
Boycotts can go both ways. Jewish people and especially Jews living in Israel should not fly through Europe and visit Europe. If they are trying to hurt us, then we should treat them in kind. All those flying from the U.S. to Israel, should stop doing it. We should also push our business to Asia and marginalize Europe. It would not be the first time the Jewish community taught an anti-Semitic government a lesson in economics.
56. EU borders
David Segal ,   Philadelphia, PA USA   (07.19.13)
After 63 years of refusing to recognize Jordan's annexation of the West Bank and East Jerusalem, the EU has changed its mind. King Abdullah I can finally rest easy. King Hussein can finally rest, now that his assignment of Jordan's piratical seizures to the PLO has achieved EU sanction. It's bad enough when the PLO refuses to acknowledge that Jews ever worshipped in Jerusalem,. Now we have the spectacle of the EU refusing to hold the Hashemite Kingdom to the letter and spirit of the armistice agreement and bestowing a made-up history for its own purposes. I can understand the EU wanting to pressure Israel to make more concessions to the PA, but can't they at least adhere to the historical record? Doesn't Israel do enough bad things that they don't have to make things up?
57. EU has decided to determine unilaterally borders of Israel
Cipora Julianna Kohn   (07.19.13)
contrary to what ashton and the eu claim, the borders of the jewish state cannot be determined unilaterally by any entity. under international law, border disputes are resolved by the parties involved to the dispute, not by outside powers. ashton's ridiculous claim that the boycott of israeli entities will not "prejudge" negotiations is the height of stupidity and malevolence since israel will be subject to a european boycott.
58. EU suicide decisions....EU=0 Israel =1
Anna M Sedda ,   Rome-Italy   (07.19.13)
Europeaa decision against Israel and not against Hezbollah will costruzione EU in the long term a great loss...This woman Ashton dose not rappresent the European people, but only a bunch of ignorant antisemitic like in the Times of Hitler...no differences..
59. let's be clear: EU is boycotting Israel
Cipora Julianna Kohn   (07.19.13)
not only is the eu attempting to determine unilaterally the borders of the jewish state, the eu is also boycotting israel. the claim that they are only boycotting the territories is specious since many entities such as banks, hospitals, universities, etc...have a presence in all of the land. hence, de facto, the eu is boycotting Israel.
60. Israel must find new partners soon, like now
CJK   (07.19.13)
it is very obvious that israel cannot count on the jew hating europeans for anything at all. Israel must find new trading partners soon, like now. look east, and look to africa.
