1. But still we need to provide concessions
Dror ,   Haifa, Israel   (07.20.13)
The writer ends his article with no hopes of these talks bearing any fruit, but regardless of this fact Israel will be required to release prisoners and stop housing development in Judea and Samaria, what a winning plan. Truly...
2. Peace talks may succeed
Albrecht Klein ,   Germany   (07.20.13)
Sure. If you want to walk voluntarily into the sea.
3. The sooner both sides declare victory& go home the sooner we
tom ,   tel aviv   (07.20.13)
can resume eliminating Arab presence on Israeli Land. Obama can carve another notch on his Nobel-tomahawk.(or rather stone age club, he's wielding on the scene of world-politics)
4. Speaking of explosions ...
Devorah   (07.20.13)
Gaza will derail these talks by attacking Israel again. The question is how far will Israel be willing to go this next time.
5. What?
israel israeli ,   tel aviv   (07.21.13)
Where does Ben-Yishai thinks these talks will lead? Like all other talks, Israel will make major irreversible concessions for some signed paper where Abbas promises something. Like every other piece of paper Israel received, it will be worthless. Not only will it be rejected by Hamas, it will be rejected by the PLO central committee. Abbas asked Netanyahu if he wants to buy the Brooklyn Bridge, and Netanyahu said yes.
6. Surprising new give and get process if they give why freeze?
Martin SA   (07.21.13)
Surprising new give and get process if they give why freeze? What deal need a freeze? Judea and Sumaria house 600,000 Jews and surely they are not gong anywhere they are staying where they surely,so why the freeze? If this is not the case whats going on with BB????? What is he smoking???

john ,   toronto   (07.21.13)
It looks like Israelis are being taken for a ride by their leaders. If the leaders can agree on subjects, why are the people kept in the dark.
8. do not make peace Abbas
Melissa ,   US of Ara   (07.21.13)
I'm warning you, if you make peace with Israel, I will not support the Palestinians anymore. just hold out as long as possible. even the Israelis are saying publicly that peace will benefit the Jewish state long term avoiding a national state. and the EU just boycotted Israel, so the longer you stall and wait, the better for the Palestinians. unless Israel agrees to release prisoners and freeze construction, then say yes, let them do it, and then scedaddle and then publicly blame Israel for the failure of the talks. believe me when I say that the Obama administration would never publicly condemn you for the failure since the Obama administration suffers from a severe case of political correctness. anyways, DO NOT MAKE PEACE WITH ISRAEL! the world supports you, not them, and the world will blame Israel no matter what
9. Each side will do just enough to get presents from Uncle Sam
Shachar ,   Eilat   (07.21.13)
Nobody believes for a second this is leading anywhere. Each side needs to do just enough to keep Uncle Sam happy and get some sort of payoff for their " compromises". How many times have we been here already?!
10. Peace talks may succed
cfs ,   fr and dz   (07.21.13)
When we want we can. Thank you Ron BEN-YISHAI for this article, i see a few about the strategy of peace.
11. Same diference
Daniel ,   TA - IL   (07.21.13)
with the same explosive results. Unless islam would be willing to accept others at an equal level, there is no reason to talk... Just to lie to ourselves... but then again most jewish leaders throughout the ages have been more concerned about their own little powers as hofjueden, than the wellbeing of their flok. We are idots to still believ leader that brought thousand of deaths and worsened security upon us. tell us mr. ishai, what is different now... right nothing, so why expect a different result.
12. These peace talks CAN succeed this time
Sebastian ,   London, England   (07.22.13)
I have been following the conflict for many years. It is my view that unlike previous talks, these ones stand a very good chance of succeding because: 1) Livni and Abbas have a very good personal chemistry to the point that both want do do a deal with each other and both are prepared to make the necessary sacrifices; 2) This time, it's being done right with low level private discussions that prevent leaks derailing the thing. I hope to not hear months and months of quiet about this now to give both sides space to make the agreement.
13. Wrong assumptions again
Chicago danny ,   Chicago USA   (07.22.13)
This whole article is based on the assumption the Pals want land, which is false. Not a single requirment from the Pals was listed in this article. Peace can only come whne both sides want peace so they can live together- nothing the Pals are saying even hints to that happening.
14. How can the PA take control of Gaza?
Michael Redbourn ,   Arad   (07.23.13)
And why is it "logical" to include Gaza in the talks at all? Hamas is sworn to Israel's destruction! The occupation of the Gaza Strip by Egypt occurred between 1948 and October 1956 and again from March 1957 to June 1967. So what nationality are Gazans! Israel has tried on many occasions to return Gaza to Egypt but Egypt never wanted it back and it's easy to understand why.

frauss ,   Jerusalem   (07.23.13)
These peace talks will not succeed this time. Chemistry means nothing. Low level talks mean nothing. I have also been following this conflict for 40 years in Israel and I, as many Israelis have come to understand, learned in 2000, when we were seemingly on the edge of peace, it all blew up in our faces. This is for one simple underlying reason: the Arabs cannot accept our being here under any circumstances. They conquered the land and it will always be theirs. No Muslim Arab can give up any part of this land without being accused of heresy and subject to death. That is why the two-state solution has been consistently rejected by the Arabs since it was first proposed in 1947. That is why this round of "peace talks" will never come to fruition. There will always be an unacceptable condition at the end of the long, hard negotiations - Jerusalem, refugees. There will only be peace if Israel decides to commit suicide. And that is as likely to happen as the Arabs accepting us here.

I do not support Palestine or Palestinians so count me out of your assumptions.
