1. So essentially what you are saying
Ivor Evenbiggergun   (07.22.13)
Is that Israel should get a free pass because other people behave worse than we do? Not much of a defence
2. dividing of Israel
Dik ,   Spijkenisse   (07.22.13)
in the Bible I read of prophet Joel predicting in the Name of God He will jugde the nations who have divided My land (Israel). Shalom from Holland
3. Look at Ashton and see Europe!
tiki ,   belgium   (07.22.13)
Ashton & friends // Hitler & friends! Same intentions & goals, same working method.
4. #1, No.
SF ,   London   (07.22.13)
5. Bin Laden's declared goals
Sherlock Holmes ,   London England   (07.22.13)
You really need to specify which goals Saudi men supported. Bin Laden's original goals had been to end Americans' presence and influence in Saudi Arabia, and possibly to topple the corrupt Saudi monarchy. He had no interest in Palestine or the secular PLO. Regarding Britain and Arab tyrants, when the present Saudi king did a state visit to London he asked to have his entourage stay with him in Buck House, but was told they should find a hotel. There were public protests during his visit and H M The Queen looked less than happy having to host him.
6. Stop panicking
Sasha ,   Bilbao, basque   (07.22.13)
There is no need in this sort of anlysis. Take for granted that Europe has double standards. Too much of a schmaltz. To what kind of public is this written?
7. EU double standard
graczek ,   Maryland, USA   (07.22.13)
The main reason for the so-called double standard is that the existence of "Israel" is illicit in God's and Man's eyes. Thus, Israel does not get to benefit from the rules that the rest of humanity has. As simple as that. Deal with it until Zionism has disappeared.
8. Fighting anti-Zionist global terror costing World $trillions
Steve Benassi ,   Silver Bay, MN USA   (07.22.13)
9. Ashton
(07.22.13)
Ashton does not represent Europe or European thought, and she has never been elected for anything. She is a member of the extreme Left that hates Christians, America, free-enterprise, nationalism (unless Arab) and of course Jews.
10. This article is 100% correct, it's common sense, especially
JtC ,   Nir Eliyahu / Jhb   (07.22.13)
considering Europe's blatant antisemitic past and present character. If Israel were not a Jewish State, this simply wouldn't be the case. This is the truth, despite all those who choose not to acknowledge it. Europe is a sinking ship. Good day
11. Think Israel being Jewish has something to do with it?
Chaim ,   Israel   (07.23.13)
Gosh, I wonder why Europe condemns tiny Israel nonstop for bogus rights violations, while saying nothing about horrific violations by nations like China, Iran, Syria Cuba etc.? Do you think it might have something to do with Israel being Jewish?
12. Interesting that the author doesn't mention...
Gunnar ,   Gothenburg, Sweden   (07.23.13)
...the word "settlements" even once in his article. It's a little bit like the bank robber who is being caught in the act, and then questions why the police isn't devoting all its time and manpower to hunting loose murderers instead. Perhaps the reason that Israeli critics of the EU cannot mention settlements, simply is because they in fact ARE impossible to justify.
13. Prof. Leibowitz was right
Stan ,   Israel   (07.23.13)
Yeshiyahu Leibowitz said in 1967 that the occupation of Palestinian territory would destroy Jewish morality. He has been proven right one hundred thousand times. Just as in Kenya, Algeria, France, Poland and Yugoslavia underground forces fought the occupiers, so the Palestinians have tried to reach independence. Some Israelis claim that because the Israelites ruled the land 3000 years ago, we can ignore the rights of the people now living there. We have tried to persuade the nations of the World for almost 50 years that this is our land . NOT ONE STATE, NOT EVEN THE USA, ACCEPTS THIS NOTION. For the sake of Israel, stop this lunacy and accept the TWO STATE SOLUTION.
14. More finger pointing ,...
split ,   US   (07.23.13)
When did the Falklanders, Gibraltarees, Caledonians or Greenlanders wanted to be liberated or independent ? ,... Unlike Israel the rest of the countries you mentioned don't claim or pretend to be democratic ,...
15. #14 You can't be serious!
Geoff   (07.23.13)
The Spanish government and people have for decades demanded the return of Gibralter to Spain. the Irish, incidentally, demand the same thing in relation to Ulster.
16. Gunnar # 12
(07.23.13)
Before the settlement movement of 1967 all the Arab countries attacked Israel. What is the excuse you are willing to allow them for that ?
17. #14 There was a Falkland war!!!
(07.23.13)
Where the UK bombed the hell out of people on the other side of the planet (!!!) who wanted to be liberated from the UK. Learn some history. Imagine some one in the middle of the Pacific ruled by Israel asking for independence, and then Israel comes and bombs it into submission. This is EU for you, double-faced antisemtis!
18. no double standard
Rau   (07.23.13)
What's written in the first para of the article is absolutely correct BUT Palestinian is the only group of people on earth that are being occupied, humiliated and has been living in an open prison for 60 years.
19. #14 so your solution is - don't claim to be democratic?
(07.23.13)
What a great idea! You want to punish only democratic countries that protect themselves. If it's not a democratic country - great, it can do what ever it wants. Not just protect itself, but bacially abuse anyone. What a load of BS!
20. Jews dwelling peacefully in Samaria are criminals, but
Jehudah Ben-Israel ,   Qatzrin, Israel   (07.23.13)
the leadership of Hizballah that direct the mass murder of people around the world are only members of a "political wing", hence, perfectly OK people with whom Europe can continue to conduct normal affairs. How pathetic, and how European!!
21. @Shaul Rosenfeld
Etienne Prinsloo ,   Nova Scotia Canada   (07.23.13)
Nice article. The EU is merely doing the bidding of their Muslim masters.
22. #12. Judea & Samaria legally belong to Israel.
Chaim ,   Israel   (07.23.13)
23. Israel is not singled out, we have to start somewhere.
Chas. ,   Los Angeles   (07.23.13)
24. even more obviously,
Alan Eigenstein ,   Edgewater, NJ   (07.23.13)
The EU has had no problem with Hezbollah's multiple murders of Israelis and Jews over the years. It's the killings in Syria that got them "spanked". Could the EU have been more blatant that Jewish blood is meaningless to them?
25. Others are evil so it's OK for me to be.
Mark ,   Cleveland USA   (07.23.13)
Stupid premise. I was taught that the reason G-d selected Abraham and created the Jewish people was to introduce a higher standard of morality into the world. Stop whining about others getting upset at us when we do the wrong thing, and start looking in the mirror. We are wrong regarding the Palestinians and the settlements. Stealing land from Arabs is contrary to Torah law and Judaism. Europe is 100% right.
26. Religion
John Prophet   (07.23.13)
Religion, what an interesting concept. There are many of them on this tiny planet of ours. All religions honesty believe they are following the path. Some say, believe as we do or we’ll chop off your head. Others say, believe as we do or you’re doomed to burn in hell. Religions of all flavors were begun eons ago by men who lived in clay huts, who knew nothing about the universe they lived in. You see, they knew they were correct because god spoke to them. For the most part we have the religion we have due to the randomness of birth. A bible thumping preacher born in the US Midwest, could have been a Hindu if born in India for example. We now exist in the 21st century and know much more about things than the originators of most religions. Honestly, I know some people who say there is no god, I know others who claim there is a god, no doubt about it. I wonder how anybody could claim for certain one way or the other. Some believe the concept of god was created by the ancients to give hope and make sense of the unknowable. I for one believe we do not know what’s possible, therefore anything is possible. I just wish there wasn’t so much killing in the name of religion…
27. #13. Israel rejects 2 State Final Solution cause its lunacy.
Chaim ,   Israel   (07.23.13)
Not only does Israel legally own Judea and Samaria. Judea and Samaria are vital for Israel's survival. This is obvious to any literate child capable of reading a map. Israel rejects the monstrous Two State Final Solution because it is plain lunacy.
28. In summing up this writer's argument . . .
crooksmesiter ,   Melbourne, Australia   (07.23.13)
". . . yeah, but look at all the other nasty regimes in the world. We may be bad, but we're nowhere near as bad as they are". Come on guys - we hear constant spruiking from the direction of Israel to the effect that you're the only democracy in the ME, and you don't behave like all the other nasties. But you do. Look deep into your own eyes and deny it.
29. 20 - Hizballah are occupiers
g.p. ,   Tel Aviv   (07.23.13)
In addition to your statement, the world has conveniently forgotten that Lebanon was a sovereign state until the Palestinians (Hizbollah thanks to Iranian backing), caused civil war and murdered its (Christian) leaders. The Lebanese hate them but are too weak to fight them. Jordan didn't want them and threw the PLO out for fear of the same vicious militia subjugation. There's no point, even, trying to change European perceptions: they are blinded by such deeply ingrained anti-Semitic prejudices that they can't hear any of it. But their time is coming: fundamentalist Islam is knocking at their door. Couldn't happen to a better bunch of hypocrites.
30. Yehuda(as the name implies)&Shomron ARE ancient,Jewish lands
tom ,   tel aviv   (07.23.13)
and no amount of Islamic ass-licking on the part of Europeans will change that fact. Because there are some Arab usurpers, that also want possession of the very same areas, doesn't impress us much. We intend to win the war with Arab aggressors. Totchka.
