It may interest you to know that Alaska Jewish history is glorious and unique. Alaska served as the last leg around the world of the dispora and it's rich seal furring trade funded the pipeline of Jewish Federations from Kodiak, to Sitka (the Russian American capital and first American Territorial capital) to Seattle, San Francisco and east to Ohio, New York and from there Russian and the Ukraine. Alaska's first governor was Jewish. It's first railroads and major mining industries were operated by Jews. In fact, Al, Alaska Airlines took part in the Operation to rescue Jews from Ethopia, working directly for the Israeli government. The first female post mistress in the US was Harriett Cohen of Sitka. Her sister Paulina was the second. Paulina and Harrietts father Alexander arrived in Sitka in October 1867, just in time to sigh the transfer documents for the purchase of Alaska by the United States. In 1947, Governor Ernest Greuning officially turned down the UN and Ben Gurion request to make Alaska the new Israel, and within days the nation was born. Greuning was a Jew from New York, who upon becoming governor, immediately eliminated segregation, two decades ahead of the rest of the nation. Alaska has 4500 declared Jews. Being Jewish in Alaska is something to be proud of, Al. Maybe you are the biggest sour puss on earth, eh?
