1. ALDI
Dennis ,   Nj USA   (07.23.13)
A brand new Aldi store opened in my town a few weeks ago. I will ensure that my family and other Jews will boycott it until they reverse their boycott of West Bank industries. I'll make sure to bring it up at our synagogue this week.
2. boycott?
kapriza ,   tsafon   (07.23.13)
When these WB companies' profitability drops and the Palestinian workers start losing their jobs, will the Dutch be happy then? When their products are boycotted by Israelis, will they be happy then? They might want to think a little deeper about this.
3. Cuts both ways
Paul ,   Raleigh, NC   (07.23.13)
I guess I won't be buying anything from my local Aldi store again.
4. Don't blame the Dutch
John Simpson ,   Australia   (07.23.13)
Just a reminder, to the United States, to Upper Volta, to EVERY country other than Israel itself, and to many Israelis themselves, East Jerusalem and the West Bank are not Israel, they are occupied territories, and Israel has been on notice since 1967 not to settle, exploit or build there. Some people may get upset that half a million settlers and billions in housing, roads and infrastructure to the colonies have produced no chance of changing that, but they can't say that they weren't warned.
5. nothing comes off more dishonest
max ,   Indianapolis   (07.23.13)
when Jews suddenly start saying they're concerned about the Palestinians when their pockets are threatened. Roll with the punches settlers.. roll with the punches
6. Aldi
Judy Jones ,   Charlotte, NC USA   (07.23.13)
I will not shop at my local aldi until they drop the ban. I will tell my family, too. I will also email their headquarters and file a complaint. The American people are with the people of Israel. I can't say that for out govt. but, we stand with you.
7. #1 Is Right
leo ,   nyc   (07.23.13)
Jews in the USA and our Evangelical friends must be alerted and start a counter boycott of these corporations when possible. We can't just sit by and let things happen that make no sense...
8. dutch
avi ,   nyc   (07.23.13)
the dutch produced the largest number of Waffen SS volunteers in all of Western Europe
9. We're from the EU and we're here to help
Avi ,   Modiin   (07.23.13)
Let's assume for a moment that the intentions of the EU were actually noble and that they truly wanted to help the Palestinians. They could have easily built a clause into the law indicating that if a company employs x percent of Palestinian employees at an acceptable minimum wage and social conditions, the company would be exempt from the law. But of course they did not. It will be interesting if the EU will boycott IKEA's proposed Ramalah outlet when they find out that Palestinian workers will be paid one third of what Sodastream workers are paid in Mishur Adumim.
10. Boycott Little wooden shoes-
b mezritch ,   philadelphia pa   (07.23.13)
11. #5 nope you are wrong!
ilan ,   Ramat Gan, Israel   (07.23.13)
We couldn't give a big flying dunk about the Palestinians losing jobs! we're just trying to make the point that in the end, all the factories will move , and they and their pockets will be fine!! its the Palestinians that will suffer, not us! so the settles will have to bus further to go to work, boo hoo! In Israel, the employer pays for busing and other transportation for work, including gas money! Cool eah? assume we're lying, and hey whats the point of arguing any further. but imagine we're telling the truth, whats the point of the boycott, its not Israel wide. our gov will only subsidize property in israel proper to the companies, and it will be biz as usual, except for Fatima and friends!
12. Yeah, what #4 said . . .
crooksmesiter ,   Melbourne, Australia   (07.23.13)
We expect lots of whining from Israel - mostly it's about the fact that the whole of the rest of the world can see the unsustainability of Israel's creeping takeover of the Palestinian areas and protests about it, while, it seems, almost no-one in Israel has that sort of clear sight. And the factory owners whining because their Palestinian workers will lose their jobs is breathtaking in its audacity. Can't they see that Israel has stolen the Palestinians' collective rights to their homeland; made life somewhere between difficult and impossible for many small farmers due to the Wall, which steals even more Palestinian lands; has built an apartheid road system on Palestinian lands that reserves the most efficient travel routes for Israelis; has decided to leave "price-tag" thugs roaming free while the most minor of Palestinian infractions is harshly punished? Get over it chaps - clean up your act and the world will trade freely with you again.
13. Neurberg Laws 2?
Reuben ,   Kvar Saba   (07.23.13)
Quick review of recent European initiatives, proposals or laws already passed. Outlaw Jewish circumcision. Check. Outlaw Kosher meat. Check. Outlaw Jewish products (starting with West Bank). Check. Make it virtually impossible for a traditionally dressed Jew to walk around safely in any major European city. Check. You decide.
14. #4 John - Boycott Turkey
Sam ,   Cleveland, Oh   (07.23.13)
The same can be said of Ocuupied Northern Cyprus and Tibet. So why aren't the Europeans boycotting Turkey or China? Or, after the Austrailian genocide of Tasmania's indigenous people, are you suggesting we boycott the Austrailians as well?
15. The Dutch boycott
Nick ,   Den Haag Holland   (07.23.13)
Wait a second people, the Dutch government can't do anything about companies that decide to stop business with the west bank. Anyway,Aldi is Germain and Hoogvliet is a crap supermarket.
16. To#8: In addition, contrary to popular belief ...
EST ,   Miami USA   (07.23.13)
the Dutch Jewish population was one of the populations that was worst hit by the Nazis and their collaborators in the Holocaust ....due to Dutch civilian diligence and adherence to Nazi beliefs. I guess their belief system has always been skewed.....but it wasn't politically correct to display it until now....there is a reason the wolves and wild dogs run in packs..... These Dutch companies jumped with glee to enforce the EU ban even before the ink was dry on the paper it was written on....
17. Next subject for Brad Pitt: "World War J" as in: "Jew". The
tom ,   tel aviv   (07.23.13)
mad dogs of Europe will not rest until they feel they've done absolutely EVERYTHING to get rid of that pesky Jew-thing.... They don't even care to camouflage it in particular!
18. john simpson the Australian
allon   (07.23.13)
Do you realise how ironic it is for an australian to lecture israel on settlement? Boycott australia!
19. To #4: Sure we blame the Dutch!
EST ,   Miami USA   (07.23.13)
1)These companies jumped with glee to be among the first ones to enforce the EU ban even before the ink on the paper it was written on was dry.... 2)In addition, your words reveal a skewed version of history....Jerusalem was never ever slated to be Arab (that is what the Muslims were called forever until their so called nationalistic Islamic front was born) They attacked Israel in 1948 and murdered thousands of Jewish citizens to conquer East Jerusalem and kept it illegally until 1967 - when it was liberated by Israel. 3) Until the 1967 war whenever a country was attacked and the attackers lost the war and land, the country which was attacked was legally able to keep the lands it had gotten in the war...that is until the Jews won land in a war...all of a sudden, the world changes the rules? why? because it is pure undiluted anti-Semitism..... So yes, #4, in this case WE BLAME THE DUTCH and those like you who try to give an illusion that the monsters are blameless....
20. #18 John Simpson and allon
Michael ,   Haifa   (07.23.13)
Had John Simpson praised the settlements as god's gift to humanity, you would probably not have complained about the irony of an Australian lecturing us. I suspect that you are a little bit of a hypocrite, allon
21. I am boycotting anything Dutch
Ron ,   oc us   (07.23.13)
And, until there are some clarification I will shop less at Trader Joes.
22. No problem.
Harri ,   EU   (07.23.13)
If you run your business in Judea or Samaria, just pay your taxes to PA and export the products as Palestinian products as long as there is no border agreement. Then there will be no problems with any country.
23. ALDI = GERMAN COMPANY
S Gezunt ,   UK   (07.23.13)
As far as this goes a German company is doing the boycotting . They are definitely not a Dutch company. They are very big here in the UK .
24. #12: it's all very well and easy for you to write far away
an Israeli   (07.23.13)
You and other commentators like you seem to forget a few things: 1. The Palestinians and their Arab brothers attacked Israel when they were in controlled of the west bank, east Jerusalem and te Golan heights. Giving these territories to the Arab without a peace treaty that will ensure that the Arabs will not attack Israel again is a very stupid thing for Israel to do. The Palestinians with their guns and missiles will be sitting on the hills a few kilometers from Tel Aviv, Ben Gurion airport and many other Israeli towns. 2. The Palestinians and many other Arabs are still not willing to compromise on a few issues that are vital to Israel's existence. Some of these issues are - that Israel is a JEWISH state (as the UN in 1947) and that the millions of Palestinians who are the children and grandchildren of the Palestinians who ran away in 1948 will not be allowed to live inside Israel because that will be the end of Israel as a JEWISH state. 3. So the occupation of the west bank started off out of a real security concern 0 Israel was facing Arab countries that NONE was willing then to make peace with it. The settlements there began later. And the security wall and checkpoints started much later because of the Palestinian intifadah that killed hundreds of Israelis when Palestinians from the west bank entered Israel and committed terror attacks inside it. I wish Europeans like you who talk so easily about how Israel should give the west bank back would understand that the main issue here is security, and Israel itself will be in great danger if these territories are given to the Palestinians without a signed peace agreement.
25. to #4 lol USA is one big British colony
ghostq   (07.23.13)
before 1425 there was no anglo saxon cultur in amerika, baaaa. 13 british colonies, so go back to England, and leave native amerikans and hispanic people alone.
26. I believe money is geography blind, in reality
ghostq   (07.23.13)
bad global economy will by pass this ban, people in Europe want to buy cheap and good brands, the Dutches can ban, but Dutches will also smugle setelment's products to the Netherlands. this ban means nothing. just a spin.
27. The most vile kid in the class
Daniel ,   TA - IL   (07.23.13)
the dutch love their own image of tolerance... yet it is just an image. Antisemtism under leftwing dutch is rampant and their hypocrosy towards jews has been proven again. Westerbork concentration camp was constructed by the dutch 2 years before the germans ibvaded and the dutch started handing over lists of jews to the germans before the nazis even requested this... right seems the dutch are up to their old tricks!
28. Aldi is German owned
CJK   (07.23.13)
the chain has had many illegal practices in various countries, including firing a worker for having aids, refusing to pay over time, using illegal timber in furniture.
29. ALDI has DENIED boycott
Ron ,   Netherlands   (07.23.13)
According to several, amongst whom the CIDI (centre for information and documentation israel) has stated that in response to questions the ALDI has denied a boycott. The Trouw article had its source in the Profundo report which was made together with norotious anti-israel activists such as Cordaid ICCO and IKV Pax Christi. According to ALDI their response was not handled well.
30. #16 Thats the point
Tim ,   Brighton   (07.23.13)
This looks suspiciously political even racist No sooner talks start these shoddy tawdry Dutch businesses seize the opportunity to try to browbeat and intimidate ONE SIDE ONLY namely Israel to make concessions IN ADVANCE OF NEGOTIATIONS And remember too these witless companies KNOW FULL WELL that both parties have gone into talks with all issues open for negotiation including Settlements YET they choose to target only Israel....NOW I urge anyone and everyone - avoid these obnoxious businesses for the foul odour of hypocrisy, dishonesty and complete ignorance of the FACTS and ISSUES you will find in their stores
