Bibi you get no street cred for this! Nobody in the Western world will hear about this! And if they do, they assume that these were "political prisoners" held illegally by Israel. No country (other than Scotland) releases convicted terrorists as a "gesture". This gesture is bad for Israel's image in every way imaginable. Was my military service worth anything? If I know that a future prime minister can just undo all of our hard work by the snap of a finger, why did I put my life in danger? For what?

Abbas can of course demand the release of his own people but what grounds does he have to demand that arabs who are Israeli citizens living in Israel and sent to prison by an Israeli civilian court? Are we going to now let Abbas dictate which Israeli citizens we are allowed to put in prison? The cabinet must vote against this prisoner release otherwise its going to set a precedent that Abbas is in charge of who we lock up. The only way to stop attempted soldier kidnappings or terrorist releases is ot pass legislation whereby terrorists who kill are executed. If they are dead Abbas won't be demanding their release and nobody will be kidnaping soldiers to do deals.

Not for the first time is Israel releasing convicted terrorists and killers: 1985 – 1,150 prisoners for 3 captured Israelis; 2000 – 450 Arab prisoners for 3 Israeli bodies and a kidnapped Israeli; 2008 – 5 Arab prisoners (including the psychopath Samir al-Kuntar) and 199 Arab bodies for 2 Israeli bodies; and, 2011 – 1,027 Palestinian prisoners for Gilad Schalit. The only reason we have to release hundreds of convicted terrorists (who will no doubt try to continue killing as many Israelis as they can and will be treated like heros for doing so) is because we did the same for Hamas and Hezbollah when they kidnapped Shalit and others. This is about showing the Palestinians that violence does not achieve more than a peace talks. Yes this is a message we must send, but the more we give in to Hamas terror, the more good will gestures we have to concede to Fatah. So we only have ourselves to blame.
