2. The sooner Assad controls Syria the quicker Israel can save
Al   (08.01.13)
itself. Israel is being led down the golden path to its own demise thanks to a useless PM and an anti-semite Obama. The only thing to save Israel from itself is an Iran Russia supported Syria. Assad must retain control of Syria.
3. Never a doubt Assad was going to prevail
Jacob E ,   Holon, Israel   (08.01.13)
However. the situation has create great animosity towards him. Because of that, there will continue to be small pockets of rebels all around syria... and lebanon. They will make problems for Syria and Hezbollah for a very long time. We're also going to have more problems now with increase weapons shipments to Hezbollah because of us attacking Syria during the conflict.
4. Pyrrhic victory
Mark ,   London, UK   (08.01.13)
Of all the Arab victories in the last 100 years, this must be the greatest! With 100K dead, many more lives wrecked and and vast amounts of infrastructure turned to rubble Assad will enjoy a totally pyrrhic victory. Above and beyond this, the tensions between all the different tribes, sects and religious fundamentalists will be hightened - waiting to be played out elsewhere. Who's to blame? The islamo-fascitsts, of course, who have stolen the future of ordinary Syrian people.
5. Good. Sure enough, he has nothing to lose.

7. William Hague
ky   (08.01.13)
So where does this put silly schoolboy, foreign secretary . William Hague. Today it was revealed in documents released by the British government that Mrs T thought him a gimmick and not fit for purpose. Well, he staked his all on supplying the rebels along with Obama. Obama will get by but Hague will look more and more like the boy who has a lot to learn..
8. the biggest threat to israel is the defeatist left
zionist forever   (08.01.13)
As far as I am concerned the longer this war goes on the better because whilst there have been some security issues involved for Israel it has been a gift and it came just at the right time. Before all this started Assad was making plans to give his army the biggest revamp it had undergone since 1967. Modern tanks & fighters. submarines, missiles now then the fighting began and all those nice new toys had to be put on hold. Assad is wasting his weapons purchased for use against Israel against his own people and his army is in disarray The country is broke so no money for rebuilding the military. Hezbollah are the most hated organisation in the arab world and their brave fighters are being killed fighting Syrians, the Lebanese are starting to turn on them for the first time. For now at least it has silenced the idiots on Israel's left who believe in giving away something for nothing out of principle. The longer they keep fighting each other the better because the rebels are no better than Assad so let them all kill each other and when Assad falls let the country turn to sectarian violence keep Syrians focussed on each other rather than Israel. The biggest threat we have to worry about long term is the leftists in Israel with short memories who will be willing to bury their heads in the sand pretend non of this happened so they can now give up the Golan for peace without thinking about the fact that once its gone its gone ( we cant take it back ), the region is totally unpredictable and a government we trust today might be gone tomorrow.and it still has strategic value.
9. assad has done well
alexi   (08.01.13)
with support of russia, iran and hezbollah, assad kept his nerve not only against the rebels but against the american media bleeding heart pressure on the syrian regime as they are doing now against egypt's people inspired coup(sissi- tell the united states to mind its own bloody business). Assad suffered through countless arab terror bombings, and pressures, and held fast and did a good job in leadershio, 1000 times better than olmert who panicked during the hezbollah war, or frankly bibi who constantly congratulates the united states on this or that action to suck up to them. Israel fortunately has yaalon who will unleash the full power of the idf if necessary unlike barak who was wrong on syria, dead wrong, but also held the idf back with his infrequent missile raids. Yaalon has already 3 x as many raids as barak, he doesn't apologize for them nor offfers concessions following them as barak did and assad should be cautious about being overconfident about tangling with israel. likud, lieberman and bennett have got to watch bibi carefully because he will succumb to kerry and sign a bad deal. A good deal should be signed but not a bad one that leaves israel is in worse shape.
