2. New motivation to join the army
Jacob E ,   Holon, Israel   (08.13.13)
Just tell the Haredim that they should join the IDF when they are drafted to protect against invaders who won't give a crap about their tombs, will run busses during shabbat and take away their tax free lifestyles. They'll join the IDF in droves...
3. Gee they sure have plenty of time on their hands
Haim   (08.13.13)
Guess thats the results when you dont work, dont serve in the army and have nothing better else to do, and i thought as a tax payer we were funding them to study all day, guess they must be on a lunch break. Someone should halt the building of new houses for the harideem as we suspect there might be a secular gravyard on the site.

17. 5 no need I will respond
S Judah ,   jerusalem   (08.13.13)
Firstly don't be so arrogant to start of from the point that Haredim are always wrong , because they are not. Secondly like it or not those that keep Jewish traditions and respect it are not exactly a growing multitude in the secular camp. Thirdly , halacha requires the deceased to be treated with respect, if there are Jewish bones there, remember they are you fore fathers.
18. Haredi Riot
Lazerbenabba ,   London, England   (08.13.13)
I am so so sorry and I know that one should not judge a book by its cover but every occasion that the Haredi in their very distinctive garb together with their weird concept of citizenship and responsibility, it makes me doubt whether we are from the same Jewish race and culture. Almost everything that they do is the antithesis of common sense and practicality. The understanding of the minutae of their Talmudic studies is so corrupted by their inability to live in the modern world that the concept of progress is treated as a threat to their very existence. Every part of Israel has a potential ancient burial site from millennia in the past; does this mean that all and every square metre of this land should be left inviolate?
19. 14 Robert,easier said than done.

21. Would the Chief Rabbis be able to settle this?
(08.13.13)
This is text from a previous article: Rabbis of the ultra-Orthodox sector are divided over whether the construction on the disputed site in Beit Shemesh is permitted by halacha.
22. #11: re: gasing haredim
david ,   new york   (08.13.13)
you are right. the media and politicians are definately using haredim as scapegoats. parties are getting themselves elected to the knesset based on hatred of haredim alone. 2 israelis who have nothing to do with each other, get all warm and fuzzy with each other when they discuss how they both hate haredim. since they keep to themselves, they make an easy target (you can imagine any evil you want if these are people you dont know). its ironic that israelis are using the same scapegoating against the haredim that the arabs have used for years against israel.
23. 20 Al,drinking for a living?
ORA ,   JERUSALEM   (08.13.13)
24. #22 David
Lazerbenabba ,   London, England   (08.13.13)
The comment from Ari #11 at the very least is in very bad taste and I am sure that on reflection it is regretted. However David, unfortunately, they do not keep to themselves. At every opportunity if anyone other than a Haredi should enter their perceived enclaves, woe betide that individual if they do not comply with their restrictive practices. Should a Haredi pass through or even live amongst what I would term normal people, nobody insists that they remove their absurd outfits from the Shetl; it is live and let live. I did not know that the Haredi may dictate to other Israeli citizens what they may do; perhaps as with the so called Palestinians they wish for their own little independent state and then I wonder who would protect them from the loving embrace of the Islamic faithful. As with all extremists their belief in their way is the only right way.
25. 19 Ora, with a little goodwill...
robert ,   antwerp belgium   (08.14.13)
from each side it's very easily done without ressorting to violent protests. Dispalcing bodies to other burial sites has happened quite often, starting with the body of Yossef (see the Bible)
26. 23 Add. Al, how difficult it must be.
ORA ,   JERUSALEM   (08.14.13)
for you to read in Ynet ,those devastating events, while your boy you treasure so much, is risking his precious life in the IDF. You are craving to protect him,but you feel so helpless.. I pray G-D i could make you laugh. To laugh with a light and happy heart. Hafetz Haim said: .Without fear of G-D there is no wisdom.Without wisdom, there is no fear of G-D. Wisdom is a great help to know how to make the best with our possibilities. Beware of loshon hara and be happy,Al.
27. 25 Robert,the difficulty here,lies..
ORA ,   JERUSALEM   (08.14.13)
in knowing how many bodies are buried.
28. 24 Haredim are the guardians ..
ORA ,   JERUSALEMT   (08.14.13)
of the Tora, that they keep alive and intact. You can only appreciate that if you know it's immense value.
29. #24: i think you need a little respect
david ,   new york   (08.14.13)
your talkback on haredim is condescending (and a touch racist). again, it proves the point that they are being scapegoated because they are a separate culture. all you are able to see is a black coat, they all look the same to you. BTW: what coercion is there?? i have been many times in haredi neighborhoods and if you treat people with respect you get respect back. no one ever coerced me. yeah, if you're looking for trouble, you can always find it. you want to get offended because they dont respect your personal space - that's their culture. do you know what they say about israeli hilonim around the world (hint: its not good). its not that israelis are "bad", its just that they have a more pushy culture. give them half the respect and tolerance given to the arabs and things will be good.
