1. The article neglects to mention why the doctors are in IDF

What the article does not tell you is that a doctor trades his SOUL to IDF. IDF will come to a promising student and offer to pay for med-school in exchange for the doctor contracting with IDF for 5 years after finishing med school. The doctor is then a slave to IDF for 5 years and they do not go easy on them. Think 48 hour shifts and grunt pay. No weekends. We're not jobnicks. We live on base and can't go home. It sucks. It's hard as hell and long as hell. Most doctors wish they never agreed to this.

and for others this is their miluim (reserve duty). ...and if as your post implies you are one of those doctors...Kol HaKavod! (stop belly aching, you are doin' really important work, I'm proud of you)
4. paramedics

I served as a combat doctor in Southern Lebanon in sedir and thereafter until now miluim in Gaza territories etc. To be honest however once a doctor has specialised he is of more limited use in a combat setting better to have a trained combat paramedic to intubate wounded, put in chest tubes etc in the field who does this every day than an eye surgeon or a gynaecologist who may not have done these procedures for at 20 years.
