1. Warsae Ghetto Uprising - in color
Lauren Kedem ,   Israel   (08.20.13)
This is not ancient history. Coloring the films of the Warsaw Ghetto adds relevance and makes real the suffering and devastation of the Jews of Europe for those who might think that this has nothing to do with them. It is important to all of us who continue to live Jewish lives and to those who understand that these horrors can never be tolerated.
2. Hollywood blackout on Israel continues, why? Fear of truth.
Steven Benassi ,   Silver Bay, MN   (08.20.13)
3. Warsaw Uprising
Jack ,   Washington DC, USA   (08.20.13)
This film is not about the Jewish Warsaw Ghetto Uprising. It is about the larger Warsaw Uprising. The Warsaw uprising was a city-wide uprising about one year after the Ghetto uprising was crushed. It was also crushed.
4. Benass#2, You're a broken record
Jake   (08.20.13)
beating out the same refrain year after year. But the truth is exactly the opposite. Israeli films only make it to the Oscars if they're fiercely critical of Israel, no matter if there are other, far superior Israeli films out there.
5. #1, this is about the '44 Warsaw Polish uprising
Jake   (08.20.13)
Not the '43 upriding Warsaw Jewish Ghetto uprising. Two different things completely.
6. I wonder
(08.20.13)
I wonder what role Peres, Barak, Netanyahu, Olmert and Livni would have had if they had been in Warsaw.
7. #6 It's pretty obvious, no?
A ,   Belgium   (08.21.13)
Peres: "We have a partner in peace in Germany" Barak: "We remain strong even when we give everything away, including our allies". Netanyahu: "The ghetto is ours for eternity, or at least until the nazis give us something better" Olmert: "uh...yes, I agree about something". Livni: "Whatever my mentor Ehud says, I mean, Olmert"

Jews were not the only people that suffered during WWII, this is about Warsaw Uprising not Warsaw Ghetto Uprising ,... There were Poles living in Warsaw too if you happen to miss it ,...

Split: Of COURSE there were Poles in Warsaw! Geez... SOMEONE had to be complicit with the Nazis to enable them to round up and eventually kill so many Jews!
10. Why ist this articel in the section headed "Jewish World"?
Albrtecht ,   EU   (08.21.13)
This article relates not to the Jewish uprising 1943 but to the much larger Polish AK uprising 1944. At this time (1944) there were almost no Jews in Warsaw.

Yes, German army entered Poland in 1939 to protect 3000000Jews, that lived in that terrible country for centuries. Unfortunately, generous German soldiers managed to save only a fraction of Jews, rest was killed by murderous Poles. Change your medicine.

joseph wall ,   louisville   (08.22.13)
It should be made clear this is not the Ghetto Uprising.Where were all these Polish heroic fighters when the desperate Jewish fighters asked for help? Terribe article.Should not have been published in Israeli paper

Germans had Jewish police to help doing it. Read about Jüdischer Ordnungsdienst .
14. #12 200.000 Poles had to die for nothing? Why?
Albrecht ,   EU   (08.22.13)
200.000 (or even much more) Poles had to die 1943 for nothing but for solidarity with their Jewish fellow citizens? How can you demand from thousands of other people to die only for solidarity? The only aim of the Warsaw Ghetto 1943 uprising was to die with dignity. There was no real chance of salvation for the people closed in the Ghetto. The real aim of the Warsaw uprising 1944 was to liberate the capital of Poland. About 5.000 Poles were killed during WW2 for helping their Jewish follow citizens. No other occupied country had to pay such high price for helping Jews.
15. Jewish support for nazis - a taboo subject.
David ,   Birobidzhan   (08.22.13)
Where were all the Jewish "heroic fighters" in September 1939 when Polish troops fought the German nazis?

"jewish police" which the germans forced under the point of the gun to cooperate in finding their brothers and sisters in the ghetto. when you are under the point of a gun, you do what they tell you. i am sure, as you must be, that these poor jews under the point of the gun in no way volunteered to find their compatriots, YOU IDIOT!

plenty of jews in poland VOLUNTEERED IN THE PARTISAN GROUPS. but they were rejected by these christian partisans. do not blame jews because plenty fought even in the german army prior to ww2 and were loyal german citizens. plenty fought in the polish army also before ww2. read some history before you spout idiotic ignorant comments.
18. #15 David there were many Jewish soldiers in the Polish army
Albrecht ,   EU   (08.22.13)
There were also many Jewish soldiers in the Polish army 1939.
19. Poland and #11
StevE ,   Dallas USA   (08.23.13)
My grandfather was from Poland. This is what he said. 3 million Poles killed and 3 million Jews from Poland killed. The surviving Poles did not miss the Jews, did not regret their deaths - they hated the Germans, true enough, but not because they killed the Jews, but because they killed the Poles. Most of them were quite satisfied that the "Jewish problem" of Poland (they were 10% and hated) was "taken care of" by the Germans .This has absolutely nothing to do with Poland today (most Poles today probably do not know that Poland was once 10% Jewish) but the truth is the truth. That is history.

Robert: No need to change my meds. My grandmother, who transited thru Poland on her way to the USA, told me lots of stories of the Anti-Semitic Poles. Friends of mine in Israel managed to "escape" from Poland in the late 60's, after suffering terrible Anti Semitism, and that was 20 yrs AFTER the Nazi defeat. The reason thet Nazis wer so successful in killing so many Jews was to due Polish complicity, to a large extent. There surely were valiant Poles, but most of them were glad to see the jews vanish
