1. Echoes of the Past
Robert ,   New Jersey, USA   (08.24.13)
Syria warns, "A mass of flames will ignite the Middle East," Sounds like we have another Saddam in Syria. Wonder if there wll be a Damascus Dan taking up the role of Baghdad Bob who, when the Tomahawks begin falling on the Syrian capital, will proclaim, "Damascus is quiet! Nothing happening here!"
2. keep it limited
Galut ia ,   Selah   (08.24.13)
take out Assad s chemical weapons and their delivery systems and cripple his air force and air defense systems no major weapons to the rebels as we don't don't generally know their allegiance... then let them slug it out
3. Poor Assesment.
Jarvis ,   Joseph USA   (08.24.13)
Several countries are sitting back rubbing their hands together like flies drooling for the spoil that has already been divided. They set a stumbling block before you. The Russian fleet in the Mediterranean is formidable. Why set red lines with the US? Don't you see the US has pulled the Israeli trigger? Yeah they have fired your guns and have done so without your permission.
4. Another War For The Americans.
Heather Czerniak ,   Haifa, Israel   (08.24.13)
Americans just love to go to war! And it's ruining their country and they aren't even smart enough to know it. Oh well, such is the faulty logic of the American leadership.
5. Funny finger-wagging little Arab leaders
HaifaGuy   (08.24.13)
"The American pressure will not help, it is a waste of time, and Syria will not withdraw from its fight against terror." Yes, this is what the US is after: stop Syria from fighting terror. How fingerwagging of you, Sir!
6. the only real problem is IRAN !

7. Israel Dreams that......
Chemstar333 ,   Cleveland, USA   (08.24.13)
Same old same old. Readers remember well for last ten years, this dream didn't materialize "US Will Attack Iran ...". This might as well, since once one starts a configlaration the outcome is out of ones reach. Hopefully and very likely it should too remain a dream.
8. Consequences for Israel of U.S. attack
Shalom Freedman ,   Jerusalem Israel   (08.24.13)
I am surprised that this article does not consider the major question for Israel i.e. the response of Syria and Hizbollah to U.S. attack which would most likely be against Israel.
9. another war
ky   (08.24.13)
to end all wars or just another endless and pointless war? I think we can assume that both sides are capable of committing atrocities . So the opposition wins thanks to US intervention and they are going to be the new Mr nice guys ? We all know that the killing will get worse whoever wins.
10. the bottomline is
Airdrone pilot ,   World   (08.24.13)
The bottomline is to find a way to avoid children being cooked by sarin gas, shaking desperately, despite their innocence and golden childhood. Instead of talking politics, why don't we try to find a solution to avoid this cruelty ? I am sick and tired of islamist cruelty, evrywhere, from Sudan, Syria, Egypt, Iemen, Al Quaeda. Iraq, Pakistan, enough !!
11. ''THE ''ISLAM'' WORLD CALIPHATE AND ISRAEL
SJOERD VAN DER VELDE ,   OUR BIG PLANET EARTH   (08.24.13)
AS LONG AS ISRAEL IS NOT ATTACKED AND HAS TO DEAL WITH AN ATTACK OF A MASS DESTUCTION ARSENAL , OR WITH THE EFFECT ROM THAT, FOR EXAMPLE FROM SYRIA. LET THE CRIMINAL ''ISLAM'' WORLD CALIPHATE DESTROY EACHOTHER BY JIHAD. THAT IS A THREAT/DISASTER TO US AND TO THE REST O THE PRESENT MANKIND, EVERYWHERE, SINCE THE 7TH. CENTURY. HEALTH, SECURITY AND PEACE.
12. Why should USA intervene??
Beary White ,   Norway   (08.24.13)
Those islamic terrorists are worse than Assad and would create more trouble than the current government. Let them fight, the winner is the last man standing. The refugees should live under the same rules as pals refugees.. a. They should have their own new UN body, like the pals' UNRWA. b. A similary budget of 600 mill USD in the new UN body. c. No right to get mingle in different contries. d. No right to get married into new countries. e. No right to be integrated into new countries. f. Have good time with off-the-budget monetary help of billions of dollars to multiplay in number just like the pals.. g. Refugees should be allowed to fire thousands of rockets into Syria, without the worlds condemnations.

JS ,   USA   (08.24.13)
With the current US President there should be no worries of this being a drawn out conflict. No spoils here. It will be a few strikes, soft by our standards, then we head home. As to your comment... "The Russian fleet in the Mediterranean is formidable.", there is no such thing as a formidable Russian fleet.
14. Why complain, #4
Cameron ,   USA   (08.24.13)
Is this very scenario not what you and the other cowardly shits of the ME been forever yearning for?
15. The USA has NO business in Syria.
George Washington ,   Hartford USA   (08.24.13)
Once American missiles fall on Assad, it will be open season on American installations all over the Muslim world. You want to galvanize all the Islamo-nutjobs into hating the USA even more than they do now? Just attack Syria, that'll do it. As the first president of the USA, my advice is to stay out of it. Muslims are always butchering other Muslims, they don't know any other way. As for Assad, the man Hillary considered a moderate, I think she's proven beyond a shadow of doubt that she is not presidential material. Her State Dept was a disgrace and her staff was slaughtered due to her isolation/stupidity/procrastination/inability to make a decision. The cover-up is ongoing since the democrats want the White House and they have no desire to let the truth of her disgusting non-action come out. I'm George Washington, I cannot tell a lie. America deserves much better than anything Hillary has to offer.
16. I wonder if the USS Barry was named after the President?
Noodles ,   Coney Island   (08.24.13)
Anyway, it's about time Soetoro showed a little nut.
17. let the Dead Children in the streets of Damascus Speak
Galut ia ,   Selah   (08.24.13)
Their voices will incriminate those that did this atrocity and those that just stood by and watched it happen ...May God have mercy on us ALL
18. #15 George, is it true that you were a freemason?
(08.25.13)
19. #14 Actually its your own weakling of a president
A ,   Belgium   (08.24.13)
trying to make some kind of a name for himself to end his last term, besides being remembered as "the worst president ever", by flexing some muscles (but not TOO much in order not to pi$$ off Putin and the Russians), and to show the world that yes...Amerika is a military power to be dealt with, but not to be taken TOO seriously.
20. #7 stick it up ur..
Ilan ,   Ramat Gan, Israel   (08.25.13)
No one here dreams of ANY attack or war. It will do no one any good! Not the Americans, not us. On the other hand we are rightfully scared. Our neighbors are capable of doing all this to each other, let alone if given a chance against us!.... Butt
21. Soo what Congress Votes to Spend Money On
Mark of Lewiston ,   USA   (08.25.13)
Before August, Congress authorized no money for a new war. They'll be back in two weeks. See if they decide to raise and spend money on a new war. Right now they are sipping lattes on the beach somewhere and considering whether or not to default on the US national debt, between rounds of martinis and talk show appearances.
22. re 16 USS Barry
(08.25.13)
It is the fourth US Navy vessel named after Commodore John Barry, the "Father of the American Navy"
23. Nothing will happen
(08.25.13)
1. Assad and Putin will prevail. "O" and his "Low Information Voters" primary concern is the gay marriage issue in Putin's homeland. 2. "O" is an unsophisticated street-demagogue who is clever enough yet to know his limitations on the international theater. 3. The adversaries of the U.S. will keep ignoring this light weight buffoon who can fool only the Americans by reading hogwash from a teleprompter. 4. Chill out and watch the show.
24. Obama will make sure that Israel pays his attack on Syria
Sergio HaDaR Tezza ,   Q4"H   (08.25.13)
Just like Bush father did in Iraq... And if Israel reacts, the Russians will be DIRECTLY INVOLVED... Obama demonstrates that antisemites have no political color. Here, on top of it, they choose Al Qaida's side over Assad's... REALLY WISE!...
25. To Ron Ben-Yishai
Israeli 2   (08.25.13)
I doubt the USA will take any action against Syria. It will merely flex its muscles by sending one or two ships. That is the best Obama will do. He will never go against Russia, China and Iran to boot. Any action may be several light gunshots across Syria as warning shots. That's All, folks!

Racists like you are disgusting
27. #19 Should we expect Belgium to do something?
TS ,   Israel   (08.25.13)
Given your stunning past in defeating the Germans... In all seriousness, your remarks are always the same. Always whining about the US. Well, here you go, you're getting what you want. And what do you do? Whine more about the US. Must be tough being a Eurowimp who luvs Israel and who at the same time has that Eurowimp attitude toward America. If only you would go whine somewhere else this board would be much, much better.
28. #4, Heather, how's the weather in Berouth?
