2. Shimon Shiffer, So What Are You Saying?
Brett ,   Florida   (08.25.13)
If we send Syria back to the stone age or not, there will still be Israeli deaths? No kidding! That is not a joke, and your article is ponderous. Obama’s dilemma is how to keep Israel from eliminating the eventual attack from iran How many times does obama have to spill the beans about Israel plans and actions for you to figure that out? He would be happy to attack syria if that would tie Israels' hands visa vie iran.
3. shiffer is a gutless olmert
marv   (08.25.13)
shiffer is dumb like livni believing her UN resolution on lebanon is effective. He takes the cake for stupidity suggesting that if Israel gave back the golan in return for a treaty then israel would have nothing to worry about in a syrian civil war. Arabs can break agreements they sign in 2 microseconds. If anything, the golan issue is moot cause golan is more ancient israel than syria, won in a defensive war, and vital, absolultey vital for israeli defense. Only livni, shiffer, and olmert can smooth over the reality cause they don't understand arabs period or moslems. Olmert trusted erdogan, livni trusts the EU and look at their boycott. And peres trusts obama and look at bibi having to apologize. Shiffer does anything and everything like levy and barea to avoid'' I will fight to the last man which is replaced by.. hide hide the arabs are coming for us. The 6 million dead spit at shiffer, livni and olmert from the graves. If shiffer was the leader of Israel pre48, there would be no israel today. He is pathetic as is livni and olmert.

5. An essentially correct read this
Cameron ,   USA   (08.25.13)
We have been quite busy offing barbarians the no. of years. Simply in no mood to open up yet another theater of heavy operations while others sit on the sidelines.
6. Obama's concern ....
Sarah B ,   U.S.A. / Israel   (08.26.13)
.... cannot be all that great. He's planning to be at the U.S. Open tomorrow. A REAL president would stay home and take care of business, don't you think?
7. rational
Matt   (08.26.13)
Limited strikes are reliant on Assad being rational to the situation. If he doesn't feel it is a full on invasion. Similar to Israeli action which he has not responded to. As Petraeus liked to say the enemy gets a vote. So if Assad acts differently then limited action turns into a full on attack to deal with that escalation. A month and a bit of shock and awe. In which Israel will be under attack by WMD. WMD requires force that stops the attacks in hours, not a month.
8. He's not up to the job.
David ,   Hartford USA   (08.25.13)
Nothing against him, Barak just isn't commander-in-chief material. A world leader? Be serious. By kissing the tuchuses of the arab leaders the world over, he has alienated all of them. There is no American action that can resolve the mess in Syria. Get rid of Assad and the Islamo-nutjobs take over. Keep Assad, and more innocent people will die. The entire world watched this nightmare develop and did nothing- except complain that Israel might build a few apartments in their own country! I guess world leaders simply don't know what's important and what's not. So how did they become leaders? They are all useless to the common man. To fix Syria: 1) Assad must be arrested and taken out of the country. 2) The UN must install a secular government until elections can be held. 3) The new government must be secular, with no religious parties allowed. The Syrian Army must be given amnesty and swear loyalty to the new temporary government. 4) Anyone convicted of sectarian violence will executed. (It has to stop) The only chance for Syria to survive is for a complete 'transfusion' of government. Out with the old, in with the temporary, then in with the new. I'm sure there are good people in Syria- let them come out and lead their country.
9. Do I understand you saying that the
Israeli 2   (08.26.13)
Americans are afraid still reeling from non-winnable wars with thousands of casualties? Does it scare them? You bet your boots that they are....but so are the Russians. The only country I would be worried about is China. They have a great weapon. All they have to do is march their population on us and the M.E. Semitic race is toast.
10. Obama IS America's dilemma.
Chaim ,   Israel   (08.26.13)
Obama doesn't deserve any sympathy. He is biggest incompetent and fraud ever to occupy the White House. Obama IS America's dilemma. Have sympathy for Americans. Particularly those wise enough to have voted for Romney.
11. Obama has no delemma; Hi is winning
Tarbouche ,   Aswan   (08.26.13)
As an undoubted Muslim by his every act , and an Anarchist, he is winning big time. The losers? Those who hold by the Judao Christian ethics and Western civilisation
12. The time is now!
John Prophet   (08.26.13)
. This time the evil that has once again raised its ugly head must be crushed completely. This must end now. “If you have an important point to make, don’t try to be subtle or clever. Use a pile-driver. Hit the point once. Then come back and hit it again. Then hit it a third time – a tremendous whack!” Winston Churchill
13. war or no war
larry ,   Israel   (08.26.13)
If you are wondering who is the bad guys, that isnt the question. the question is. who is using chemical weapons' and on civilians . '????? and put yourself on the other side ' \
14. Cake Walking
Mark of Lewiston ,   USA   (08.26.13)
Even the most rabid pro-attack people like McCain are advocating air strikes only. That is just phase one of any war. Then the US is gone and somebody else gets to pick up. That is probably why Obama is cautious. Nobody is volunteering to pick up and settle into the quagmire. And those who think air power can solve everything should remember the success of shock and awe in Baghdad, and how that war paid for itself, and how short it was promised to be. The cake walk theory is alive and well. Those delusional enough to believe it will probably see their opportunity to prove it . No US boots on the ground means no mess for the US clean up or any mess created.
15. That chemical weapons were used
Sarah B ,   U.S.A. / Israel   (08.26.13)
.... is not in dispute. What is in question is who used them. I am not entirely convinced that it wasn't certain of the insurgent groups in Syria. They have as low a regard for human suffering as Assad. The difference is that Assad doesn't want to run the risk of foreign intervention, while that is precisely what the insurgent groups want. Do the math. It is NOT in Assad's interest to utilize WMDs -- at this point, he's prevailing, anyway, using conventional weapons. On the other hand, it is very much in the insurgents' interest to force a major confrontation and Western intervention. They are certainly willing to sacrifice however many civilians it may take. This is an internecine Arab conflict. Let it remain that way, at least for now. Everyone involved are "bad guys." Lie down with dogs; you'll get up with fleas. That, the West does not need.
16. It's pathetic
Shachar ,   Eilat   (08.26.13)
Clinton used limited strikes after relatively minor attacks and no-one doubted his integrity. I like Obama but he is dead wrong on this issue. He could have taken out Assad's chemical weapons and airforce with a few days of limited strikes. There are almost no risks involved and he could have prevented the worst massacres of the last two years.
17.  OBAMAs DILLEMA =2 Propositions
DANNS ,   ROU-MONTEVIDEO   (08.27.13)
Dillema means two propositions from greek (DI =2 // Lemma=Proposition) In the Egyptian Insurrection by the MB and its armed supporters the President of West Big Power was not well grounded or made a lot of mistakes. The discussion about his faith is a big issue (his father comed from Kenia in a region probably islamic. He himself grew in Indonesia,...)But if the Americans voted for him you cant be more catholich than the new argentinian Pope Franciscus. The real issue here is that the COMPLEXITY of the Middle East issues exiges from Israel to act very Prudent and Defensive. At this moment better not to trust too much in West big Power Politics for Middlle East/Look what happened with the Egyptian Issue .Egypt Army remained quite alone against the MB and Iran support for the former!!! And needed to resolve all alone STEP by STEP.Learn ISRAEL from this is One Proposition.Second Proposition Step by step in the Palestinian Issue The solution will include Jordan someday in the FUTURE
18. You should not dare !
Giora ,   Ramat Hasharon Israe   (08.27.13)
You should not dare "to assume that had an agreement with Syria been reached, today we would not be witnessing with trepidation a civil war in the neighboring Arab state". Are you also accusing Israel for being responsible for the "civil wars" we are witnessing EVERYWHERE in the muslim world?
19. Obama has no problems. Everything
(08.28.13)
was decided by Professor Khalidy 2 days ago. They met in the White House. I don't know what he to told Obama yet.
