These Syrian refugees were victims of a civil war with the Baath (Arab socialist/fascist) regime of Bashar al-Assad. They did not fight Israel. Many of the 300k refugees that came from Yugoslavia in the early 90's are still here, the vast majority very well integrated. However, there's a big difference between Yugoslavian and Arab culture.
