1. Obama's real question is....
Eaglebeak ,   Left Coast, USA   (08.27.13)
How can I look presidential and still have plenty of time to golf? Anybody got a tele-prompter with the answer for me?
2. Russia wont respond because they've been colluding since WW2
Jake ,   USA   (08.27.13)
The greatest hoax perpetrated on humanity might be the Cold War staged nuclear-standoff that drew every nation on the planet into either the US or Russian sphere of influence, while neither country ever fired a single shot. All the permanent members of the UNSC have been colluding since WW2. Turn off your mind-crippling televisions for a few days and think about it. The evidence is glaring.
3. Naive
Aharon ,   Rumson, USA   (08.27.13)
I think it's premature to say that Assad won't lash out at Israel with some intensity because we don't know what the real state of his army is today and how it will look in the hours after any attack begins. If Obama actually gets off his golf cart long enough to do something substantial, Syria's response will be 100% directed towards Israel because who else is Assad going to attack? Jordan? Turkey. If Assad believes that his regime is done after 48 hours of airstrikes, he'll throw everything he has at Israel and rush off to Paris leaving his cronies and fellow alawites to take the heat for him.
4. two pieces missing
(08.27.13)
Just like in Serbia, the Orthodox will view this as Catholic/Protestants working with Muslims to eradicate them. This will strengthen Russia and weaken the US. And what about the Jihadis? Just when Assad was fighting them to a stalemate, they get massive arms shipments from the Turks and Saudis, while Obama neutralizes the Syrian airforce. Expect many atrocities.
5. #1 were you wearing your white hood while sending the letter
Robert Levita ,   Toronto, Canada   (08.27.13)
6. How do Obama and the allies defend
Devorah   (08.28.13)
the YouTube videos of Syrian rebels launching canisters of Sarin gas made in Saudi Arabia?
7. #5. Robert: U.S. has freedom of speech!
Tom W ,   USA   (08.28.13)
Unlike in Canada where the extra judicial "Human Right Commission" can squelch even the last vestige of freedom, in the U.S. you cannot intimidate the people by labeling them with your radical, leftist, inane labeling habit. Just sayin'....
8. why not send offical announcements too
larry ,   LA   (08.28.13)
I am not a man of deep military knowledge, but it would seem to me that by making it obvious so far ahead of time their announcement and pronouncement that they plan to attack Syria, that those in charge there would use the opportunity to move the poison gas and other devices to a safer location thus thwarting imbecile America's plan.
9. Deal UN distributes Chemical Protection Suits
Zechariah   (08.28.13)
The first step is to get the alawites and Christians and All Syrian Rebels to issue Chemical Protection suites to their respective populations.A list of criminal indictments ought be prepared with sanctions naval blockades and no fly zones over some areas.
10. To the doubters
Arnold ,   Loma Linda, U.S.A.   (08.28.13)
I have been wrong before, however, the war drums are beating loudly. I do believe the US will respond to this latest civilian massacre in Syria. My best guess is the destruction of the chemical sites. For myself, I hope the civilian casualties are low.
11. #5 Dumb comment
Preston Richards ,   Powder Springs, USA   (08.28.13)
So is that the narrative now? Everyone who dislikes Obama is a racist.? I'm Native American and I can't stand him, it's not just whites.
12. # 5 I should warn you...
Eaglebeak ,   Left Coast, USA   (08.28.13)
playing the race card only makes you look stupid.
13. 12
Simon ,   Oklahoma   (08.28.13)
Funny that you say that because the right wing scumbags frequenting the talkbacks are extremely adept in playing the race card, and not only when it comes to Obama. But you are right, it does make you look stupid in the extreme. LOL. Talk about putting your foot in your mouth.
14. Y'all Know That The Hebrew Version's Talkbacks
Eric ,   Haifa   (08.28.13)
Are far more balanced, less war mongering, and more realistic than you extremists would like to believe Israelis could be? I'm glad you all think this is a great idea, and somehow you hate on Obama despite the fact that he's just the same ol' right-wing war monger that bush and his cronies were. Same support for Israel, same meaningless and dangerous foreign policy.
15. I am not convinced that Assad ordered the chemical attack
Juha Teuvonnen ,   Boston,MA   (08.28.13)
Don't get me wrong, I am not in any way fond of Bashar Al-Assad, I think that he's a fascist dictator and the world would be a better place without him. Nevertheless, Assad has so far acted perfectly rationally. He allied himself with Iran and Russia, not because he is a rabid fan of either, but because Sunni Arab countries hate his guts and want him dead. When the syrian civil war started, the Syrian Arab Army was in complete disarray. Assad was able to gather forces loyal to him and get them organized. With the help from Iran and Hezbollah he was recently able to deal a few deadly blows to the Syrian opposition. Prior to the chemical attacks, his forces were moderately successful, in part due to having heavy weaponry and air support that the other side is sorely lacking. One does not need to be a great strategist to predict the result of an atrocious chemical attack against civilian population. US and NATO will obliterate Assad's air force and heavy weaponry, which will effectively "level the playing field". Except, Alawites and other forces loyal to Assad are heavily outnumbered by predominantly Sunni opposition. With complete lack of qualitative advantage, the defeat of Assad's forces becomes simply a matter of time. consequently, Assad stands to lose everything and gain nothing by launching a chemical attack. I find it hard to believe that someone as rational as him would commit such a suicidal act. The only country that stands to gain anything from this is Iran. It would not be out of character for their regime to sacrifice a pawn like Assad's regime (the viability fo which in the long run is questionable anyway) in return for a for a larger strategical gain. By distracting US and allies with Syria they distract attention from themselves, which buys them time to complete their nuclear weapon. They also get to mess with Israel and western interests, and transform the syrian conflict from a muslims-against-muslims conflict to a muslims-against-west. I would not be at all surprised if we found out later that Iran and the Islamic Revolutionary Guards corps were behind the chemical attack. It simply makes sense, they are the only ones to benefit from it.
16. Let Israel sink or swim under own power, leave US out of it
Steve Benassi ,   Silver Bay, MN   (08.28.13)
17. Mistake - meant #5 not #1. Sorry!
Raoul ,   Israel   (08.28.13)
18. Ben-Yishai , Wrong Again
Brett ,   Florida   (08.28.13)
Syria cannot hide their fingerprints. They have spoken openly too many times about attacking Israel. If and when they do, that will be an act of war. No matter what obama says, if he sends missles into Syria, that, is an act of war. If Bibi listens to obama to show restraint, he will once and for all become a paper tiger, like obama. But asssad means to kill Israelis, and obama wishes him godspeed in that endeavor. You wish for a limited war, but the enemies of Israel wish for victory.
19. # 13
Eaglebeak ,   Left Coast, USA   (08.28.13)
I can assure you my foot is not in my mouth. I am unable to put my foot where I would like to because your head seems to be in the way. You seem to have the right confused with the left.
20. #15 Assad has been using chemical weapons for some time
Shachar ,   Eilat   (08.29.13)
Assad has been using chemical weapons on a small scale for over 6 months and no-one responded. The latest attack was also only 4-6 shells but hit a densely populated area when the humidity was unusually high. Couple this with sudden media interest and you see it was a miscalculation, no conspiracy here.
