I agree that Syria would not attack Israel, but I believe they should be on the lookout for Hezbollah. Everybody knows Iran controlls both. It is likely Iran would tell Assad Not to respond but tell Hezbollah to blindside them. But that is ok because Isreal has the G_d of Abraham, Issac and Jacob who will fight for them and He will not allow His people to be destroyed. Bless His name.
