1. bechor-there will be no american response
alexi   (08.30.13)
recall 1967 when lyndon johnson failed to challenge nasser on the straits of tiran blockade and israel was left to itself. The real culprit here is john kerry with his inflated expressions over the chemical weapons use dragging obama into an intended action. In character, the french chickened out, and jackass cameron lost his vote so the UK is out and now obama has used the same template- we need congress approval. Israel, the land of some good people and the rest a bunch of shmuucks bought into --oh the US will protect the jordan valley if we cut a deal- they are not reliable and niether are the palestinains period cold and hard. Then you have peres who won't shut up calling for actions against syria since bibi won't tell peres he is ex ceeding his authority and will be removed if he doesn't shut up. Syria civ il war is not israel'sbusiness period. Lastly you have gutless bibi, utterly gutless. He apoglogizes to erdogan, a humil8iation which led into the toilet. He then released prisoners and started talks onconcessions assuming US will cover israel's side which they won't you dumbbells. For me, only Israel covers its backside no one else. The status quo is OK for now and the coming 3 wars will see judea and samaria resolved., Bennette, shamir, feiglin, leiberman and lapid must vy to replace bibi asap who has always been gutless in his core. USA will not attack syria as congress will not support such action and the rebels are holding the bag. Iran is watching and just got a nuke. Israel is on its own. In the meantime, igore the generals with their peace proposals whether yadlin or anyone else. They have made lousy naotional leaderws from rabin to barak.
2. The Iranians/Syrians have Obama pegged correctly
Shep ,   Memphis   (08.30.13)
The Iranians have nothing to fear when it comes to Obama and the actions of both Obama and Iran prove it. Syria is just a sideshow to the overall 20,000 foot view from Iran. All Obama has to do is cut off the head of the snake (Iran) and Syria and Hezbullah dry up and the threat of a nuclear Iran disappears. Obama, much like President Johnson during the VietNam war (he could have cut off the Ho Chi Men trail Chinese supply line), is not even considering attacking Iran - and his "shot over the bow" comments about Syria are ridiculous. If I were Israel, I would - based on Obama's weak knees - go ahead and take out Iran's missle sites and then their nuclear sites, while at the same timekeeping a trigger finger on Hezbullah and Syria. If Iran goes down, the others collapse.
3. #2 Shep. Thank you! Excellent Analysis!

5. Never..
Mario ,   Tel Aviv   (08.30.13)
This will never happen, Iran is not Saudi arabia, lybia, eygpt etc..Why don't you people understand??? Iran, Hezbollah and Syria are a different story, these people are organised, clever, and do their calculations very very well.. they've infiltrated every government, they are everywhere... they will never be defeated no matter what. Mark these words! you will see......
6. So Assad reads very well Obama weakness
(08.30.13)
Assad sees well the weak, mumbling , BHO and his pussyfied stance.BHO is a social worker, Assad is a mafia gang leader.Even if BHO shots a few tomahawks it will merely scratch the syrian army who received from BHO ample time to go hide and seek.Assad stance is dictated by its own survival and by the real ruler of Damascus who is Ali Khamenei. If BHO had one cubic centimeter of strategic thought he would hit the airfields, the planes either syrian, iranian , iraqians and the seaports where are pouring the military hardware coming from Iran-Russia
7. The only reason America fought Saddam
A ,   Belgium   (08.30.13)
was because he was getting too close to the oil fields. Otherwise, why bother sending troops to defend a tribe of diaperheads who would have nothing if they didn't have oil. Oblabla put his foot in his mouth with his "red line" story, now he doesn't know how to extract it, plus, he seems quite scared of czar Putin. He won't take any substantial action against Syria that would involve Russia, China or Iran, he can't. He's stuck between a rock and a hard place and he knows it.
8. Obama weaknesses OSA support. For Assad
Fahd Alharby ,   Madina , KSA   (08.31.13)
Actually , unless the US surprises us all by active military Engadget that is sufficient to tilt the balance in sport of the anti Assad forces , Obama rhetoric and actions are likely to end supporting Assad precisely Beacuse of the emotions in the conflict .
9. #5: Mario
Israeli 2   (08.31.13)
I know Mario, you want us to prove that you are wrong. The time will come and what will you say? "I don't know what happened. I must have been wrong." Israeli grandmas will be able to defeat these countries you mentioned. They are worthless and no match for ISRAEL.
10. RE RANT #1
Ronnie ,   Australia   (08.31.13)
Gutless ? Please advise the readers what military unit you and your brother saw combat in. You must be a General on the retired list with an academic education few achieve. "Oh what an evil weave when first we deceive." That cuts both ways. The Israeli Government has had a couple of set backs agreed, over the years.. However it has the most powerful Democracy, economy and military while being surrounded by nutters with free oil. When the oil is finished it is back to goat skin tents.
11. Short Prediction
Shachar ,   Eilat   (08.31.13)
US will lob a few tomahawk missiles Syria's way plus a few air sorties, nothing longer than 3 days. Syria and Hizbullah will lob a few conventional missiles Israel's way and Israel will respond with a few minor retaliatory strikes. Within a week everyone is back to business as usual.
12. Well ....
Sarah B ,   U.S.A. / Israel   (09.01.13)
This is a lot like saying that Japan and Germany would never have declared war upon the United States if they had some sense of what the outcome would be. But the United States under Roosevelt was a very different country than the one which has been dragged into economic despair by the idiot currently occupying the White House. I fault Roosevelt for a great many things. He did, after all, turn a blind eye and a deaf ear to the pleas from Jewish Americans who knew full well what was happening to the Jews of Europe. He cruelly turned back a vessel carrying Jews hoping to escape a certain fate in Europe. Roosevelt, truth be told, had a long history of anti-Semitism. But I digress. Obama is the worst thing that has ever happened to the United States. He holds a job that is clearly far above his capabilities. Someone who failed the bar exam five times and then passed by ONE point is not fit to be the president of the United States. In the days when law firms were desperate to diversify, EVERYONE passed over Obama. That is why he became a community organizer. He can do the small stuff, for sure. But running the most powerful country in the world? No. That's above his capabilities. And the American people -- not to mention innocent Syrian civilians -- are reaping the consequences of the inadequacy of the current occupant of the White House. I wonder how many people will die between today and September 9. Does the president of the United States not realize that he can convene a special session? Perhaps an advisor forgot to tell him. Or perhaps the president is too busy on the links. Whatever. Once again -- it will fall to Israel to yank America's chestnuts out of the coals. I'm not sure it's worth it, and I am very definitely sure that Obama's chestnuts are not worth saving.
13. Evils triumph
John Prophet   (09.01.13)
The Mullahs in Iran have always believed they are following Allahs wishes to destroy Israel and create a Middle East Caliphat. The words and actions of men mean less than nothing to them. In each turn of events they see Allahs hand at work convincing them further of their quest. Convincing them the West is weak and ripe for destruction. Very dangerous. This evil can not be negotiated with it can only be destroyed or succumbed to! “All that is necessary for the triumph of evil is that good men do nothing.” (Edmund Burke)
14. The wealthy elite are pushing for WW III.
Rich ,   Toronto, Canada   (09.01.13)
Obama, Merkel, Cameron, Hollande, Putin, Morsi, Assad, Netanyahu are all puppets on a stage. It’s time to start thinking outside the box, people. The Syrian Rebels (Islamic extremists) are pretty much finished, and their only hope is US intervention. So, the Rebels gassed their own people in the hope of getting the Americans directly envolved. Assad’s army is winning on all fronts, and he has no need to gas anyone. Those gas attacks were acts of desperation carried out by the American supported Rebels.
15. #12 Bravo! Well written, well said!
A ,   Belgium   (09.01.13)
16. To: Rich at No. 14
Sarah B ,   U.S.A. / Israel   (09.01.13)
I am inclined to agree. I do not think that the Syrian government is responsible, and I am fairly certain that chemical, biological and neurological weapons have fallen into the hands of the Syrian "insurgents." They won't take on Israel. They know all too well what will happen. But the United States and the European Union had better be concerned. Perhaps we should just nuke Syria -- and Lebanon -- and let G-d sort out the differences.
17. Do not fight not to lose.
(09.01.13)
Fighting not to lose. When wars are fought by half measure they never end but are prolong indefinitely. In order to win the US Civil War Lincoln came to the agonizing realization that he has to raze the South to the ground. Only then was victory possible. The same for WWII. The US nuked 100,000's of thousands civilians in Japan and firebomb 100,000's more in Germany to bring that war to an end. Those wars were not fought with 21st century instant 24/7 media broadcasting every dying civilian into each and every home. If they were, the US might be now two separate countries and we could all be goose stepping today. How then do "civilized" countries fight a civilized war and win? They answer is they can't. In the 21st century those countries who care less about genocide and who's population have no say in the matter have a free hand at shocking the world into submission. Wars then should be fought to win and not be fought not to lose!
18. To: No. 17
Sarah B ,   U.S.A. / Israel   (09.01.13)
Too true. How many people perished needlessly in Korea? And 50,000 gave their lives In Vietnam for absolutely nothing. Look at Iraq. Look at Afghanistan. Wars are ugly things, to be sure, but if you find yourself in one, make damned certain you're in it to win it. Otherwise, it's just a useless waste of time and a horrific waste of precious lives. On a personal note -- I very much appreciate your comments about the Civil War and World War II. The Civil War is what made America -- prior to the war, we were New Yorkers or Virginians or Carolinians or Ohioans ..... it took the Civil War to make people Americans. Horrible casualties but, in retrospect, well worth it. World War II changed everyone and everything, forever. The moral depravity of Germany contrasted against the ultimate heights of technology in Hiroshima and Nagasaki. Interesting juxtaposition. War is not immoral. All too often, it is an expression of the height of morality. This would be one of those times.
19. Who's fault is it?
John Prophet   (09.02.13)
Israel will be left alone In a raging sea of Radical Islam screaming death to Israel armed to the teeth with Missiles,CW and soon atomics! “If you will not fight for right when you can easily win without blood shed; if you will not fight when your victory is sure and not too costly; you may come to the moment when you will have to fight with all the odds against you and only a precarious chance of survival. There may even be a worse case. You may have to fight when there is no hope of victory, because it is better to perish than to live as slaves.” Winston Churchill
