Not even Bush contemplated going it alone with the isolated Iraq. Yet you believe Obama, the first Black President and an astute legal mind would wish to tarnish his Presidency to launch a preemptive strike on Syria, which is by no means isolated with Russia and Iran batting for Assad.. If are so gullible then I have a bridge in NY, I'd like to sell you.
3. Other circumstances same likely consequences
Alan ,   Canada   (08.30.13)
When Chamberlain & Daladier gave a free hand to Hitler in 1938, Churchill was the only prominent politician in the UK to criticize the decision of the two prime ministers & to forecast the dire consequences they foolishlly hoped to avoid. Churchill said to the prime ministers: "You were given the choice between war and dishonor. You chose dishonor and you will have war." In this case the 100 000 Syrian victims did not trouble the consciences in the West so it is not entirely surprising that 1000 deaths by toxic gas does not seem worth to lift a finger for a majority of UK politicians in parliament. What an encouragement for the fanatics in Iran in pursuing their military programs! If the West is barely willing to slap the wrist of the relatively modest Bashir Assad, how can we believe it will stop the much tougher Iranian threat? Indifference to the plight of the victims of despots is a high potential boomerang risk which could prove very costly to the believers in the merits of isolationism & containment when dealing with radicals unconcerned by the loss of life even of their own people .

Those ships are capable of certain things. And the "shot across the bow " concept is one of them. Most countries shudder at the idea of 100's of tomohawk missiles hitting wherever they were told to, but if this is really going to matter then Carrier Attack groups need to be moved into theater. One or two of those could shut down the entire conflict.
5. If Obama breaks Syria, America owns Syria, Israel off hook

6. Ok world leaders...
Israeli Citizen ,   Haifa   (08.30.13)
Now, after all your chest puffing and bru-haha, if you don't strike, the whole Muslim world will have proof that you are a weak bunch of little girlie boys.and radical Islam will come into YOUR countries with murderous Jihadic zeal!
7. Many countries should join against Syria!
R ,   US   (08.30.13)
and all people of the world should stand up in protest against the terrible atrocities going on there as well as the threats they continue to make against other countries! This is a country without mercy and morals!
8. Shame on England and America!
Mark Jeffery Koch ,   Cherry Hill, NJ USA   (08.30.13)
The Brits just voted not to go after Assad. Sad. Very sad. As long as a country is not a threat to America or England they are allowed to use chemical weapons on their own people and torture and murder little children. What a message we are sending to Assad and other tyrants......kill as many of your own people as you want to in whatever way you want to as long as you don't bother us. With this kind of weakness in the face of barbarity and evil we might as well dissolve the U.N.. Who needs the U.N. when the people protesting with signs "Hands off Syria" are expressing the opinion of the majority of people in the democratic West? By this warped logic if Germany was not a threat to America in the 1940's then Germany was allowed to murder as many Jews as they could as long as they did not bother the United States. The fact that so many people want to allow Assad to get away with murder is repulsive and disgusting.

Not that I'm pro war, but there is a line to be drawn when comes human value. A lesson to the Brits, and French!
11. the case for military action is unsound
ky   (08.30.13)
Obama would do well to heed British parliament's caution. Israel should not standby and watch a it will suffer needlessly n the aftermath and tell Obama to sSTOP the intended bombing now.. WE all know what the Assad regime stands for but what we do not know is how the end game will turn out. The heart of the problem is that dreamers in the White House believe they can put the world to rights but the reality is that they simply do not have the resources to . It must be the UN that deals with the terrible gas attack against civilians and it is up to all its members to show humanity above politics and act against the perpetrators. Personally I believe it will show a clear path of responsibility leading back to Al Qeada as this kind of thing is their trade mark.
12. Israel has manipulated America into fighting Syria for them

13. What did I tell you all along?
Israeli 2   (08.30.13)
USA will be the Lone Ranger who will do one flyover and shoot one salvo each. Then, it is heading back home. "There! I kept my word, naughty boy. You crossed the red line and I won'y have it." Yep, this is US resolve.
14. announce new homes in west bank!!

this week would be a good week for that. obama looks a little pre-occupied.
15. Go ahead Barry Sotero...make my day !

16. We must keep out
American Hindu ,   USA   (08.30.13)
The US and Israel should keep out of this mess. Why do the Saudis, Qataris, and Turks not clean up the mess they started? Why are they not willing to take in Syrian refugees. Instead they would rather they flood the Western nations. The US army should not be used as the sword arm of the Wahabis. Also a US strike on Syria may prompt the Syrians and Hezballah to target Israeli civilians.
17. This US "action" will be like most of the Israeli "retalia-
tom ,   tel aviv   (08.30.13)
tions" for kassams rainig down from Gaza: bombing some empty buildings, killing few bad guys, declaring victory, going home for supper. The main goal of this Presidency, namely destroying the Western Way of Living shall remain intact.
18. Much ado about nothing
Albrecht Klein ,   Germany   (08.30.13)
If Barack Hussein Obama waits long enough, the Syrians will have evacuated all their valuable assets and he can bomb some empty buildings. Impressive.
19. A limited Military Strike -
Arn. ,   Sweden.   (08.30.13)
- must not leave Syria with the Potential to Use WMD again, otherwise the Strike is only a Chambelaining One. Arn.Sweden.
20. It seems...
Raoul ,   Israel   (08.30.13)
the powerful historic Chamberlain/Churchill example has taught the world nothing, and in particular (not so great) Britain. The Iran/Syria - and others - axis will have a green light to march against Western freedom much like nazi Germany did. And in the short term the killing will go on unabated in Syria.
21. GOP is hoping Obama ignores US public
spyguy ,   seattle   (08.30.13)
so they will have very valid grounds to impeach Obama. While the US house can easily bring an indictment with a majority vote, it takes 67 votes in the senate to convict and remove him form office. If Obama goes it alone, the republicans just may be able to get the 67 senate votes to convict. The GOP has wanted to get rid of the b***k interloper for six years and he may just hand them the chance.
22. UK Wimps
Expat Brit ,   Israel   (08.30.13)
Britain and its politicians, shame on you! I feel ashamed to have been born and educated in the UK.... you are all a load of cowardly wimps. I hope you are happy that you are quickly becoming the United Islamic Kingdom..it's what you deserve. Consider changing the colours of the Union Jack... Brits, get out quick while you still can! They are ruining a once beautiful country!
23. well 'expat'
Gabriel ,   Leiden, Netherlands   (08.30.13)
Why do you assume it is incumbent on the West to keep spending billions of taxpayers' money to save Muslims from their own murderous tendencies towards one another. The UK is completely right and the USA should re-examine their own policies, because the only responsibility they have is towards their own people.
24. Brits smart...
