1. Dear Mr. Putin
yona ,   bh   (08.31.13)
Did you consider how many people died because of your support for Assad? We should never wait for a human to kill this many people before we kill the tyrant. Why do we always wait and wait? As soon as a tyrant starts killing, KILL HIM!
2. Mr Putin either you are a liar or Mr Obama OR BOTH!
Son of Cyrus ,   UK   (08.31.13)
That is the root of all issues around the world! LIES ... LIES ... LIES...
3. Putin, Putin
David ,   Montreal Canada   (08.31.13)
You are just as guilty of the gas attack. You and Assad guaranteed the protection and control of the chemicals bombs, and you FAILED! maybe purposely. AND since when Putin care about human rights or well being?

Adi ,   Zurich   (08.31.13)
Mr Putin. Please present facts. U are logical leader. Even if you are wanting to protect your interests you would not tolerate Assad using chemicals. It is not logical they used them when UN inspectors were present but the world needs facts not the war drum talk from Assad regime.
6. CONSIDERATION
Robert ,   Israel   (08.31.13)
Is Putin talking about the same "consideration" he had with Georgians when he invaded that country and killed over thousand three hundred people in less than three days?. Or he is talking about the "consideration" he had towards all those people who attended a concert in Russia when the theater was coped by extremists and he ordered Russian forces to get inside at all costs and killed, besides the extremists, more than one hundred and eighty attendants who just happened to be there?. That is Putin's double standards.
7. Putin: Nobel prize laureate of arm suppliers to rogue states
Alan ,   Canada   (08.31.13)
Putin unreserved help to the "peaceful" governments of Iran & Syria to maintain their kind of humanitarian respect of life & their "absolute" opposition to any recourse to terrorism inside & outside their borders, this certainly makes Putin a moral autority on the respect for human life!
8. Maybe - Maybe Not
Christy ,   Boston, US   (08.31.13)
I'm sad that so many people have died in Syria. I'm not sure who is responsible for their deaths. One thing I am sure of - it's not the business of the US. We have no call to intervene. Neither the US, nor any US allies were harmed. I hate to watch people kill each other - but there isn't much we can do about it. It's been going on for a long time and short of taking over the country I don't see how we can stop it. A few missiles won't make that much difference.
9. Putin, are you ready to stop the new would-be Hitler?
Noodles ,   Coney Island   (08.31.13)
Nobel Peace Prize deception is little more than tossing sand in the eyes.

11. So says the Butcher of Grozny!
Dee Bee ,   The Galilee, Israel   (08.31.13)
Why would Russia care abot the lives of Syrians when he massacred his own people in Chechnya?
12. Shame to you, mr.puta !
Roman ,   Cracow, Poland   (08.31.13)
We, the Poles know the Russians better than the Americans do ! Confiscating those chemical weapons from Syria would have solved the problem !
13. Putins real politic
PaulZion ,   Israel   (08.31.13)
Even though Putin is playing real politic, eschewing all that is moral and just, and ignoring the suffering of thousands, a lot can be said for the steadfast loyalty he is showing his ally. Obama could take a page out of that book and not sell the US's most reliable ally down the river in order to lick some Muslim asses. Don't get me wrong, his behavior is disgusting and unconscionable. He has brought back all that is rotten and evil about Russia, but you can see he really values his allies. Not so for Obama, the ineffective pansy. How could he have been reelected? That is a mystery.
14. FOUR DECADES of Assad?
ASTRONAUT ,   SC, USA   (08.31.13)
Just wait, USA: FOUR DECADES of an Obama-Clinton regime is in the works for our own homeland.
15. Please stop moralizing in politcs
Tom W ,   USA   (08.31.13)
Let's put aside our emotional reactions which imbue most of the posts. Syria belongs to the Soviet/Russian sphere of interest and be it wright or wrong, it's a hard, immutable fact. Certain axiom learned from the Cold War legacy is still valid today, like it or not: neither the West nor the East will cede its holding to the opposing party. When dealing with the Islamic world we cannot be sure as to which side is better- or worse so it's advisable that cool head prevail.
16. Difficult choices
RC ,   USA   (08.31.13)
Mr. Putin knows he can put a stop to America’s intervention if he volunteers to take possession of those chemical weapons and destroy them with UN supervision. Unfortunately he seems to be supporting Iran get possession of nuclear arms which he knows they will use because of their religious fanatical beliefs just like the MB and Al Qaeda. He has some difficult choices to make; stay out of the way and let the fanatical Muslims kill each other, keep siding with the Shiites and join the fray, or side with the non-Muslim nations which are or will be under attack by the Muslim radicals that insist on spreading their radical hateful religious political system and create a Caliphate. He well knows that Sharia is also pushing towards his homeland so unless he and his fellow citizens want to bow down towards Mecca in submission he better get it right while he still can. As for Obama, if he does not take out Syria’s air force then he is just wasting America’s money and putting our soldiers in harm’s way. Unfortunately for America, after Benghazi and letting Seal Team Six get slaughtered even our allies are reluctant to follow Obama’s lead.
17. To No. 13 (Putin's real politic)
Alan ,   Canada   (08.31.13)
I feel that the apparent steadfastness of Putin's support for Assad is more of necessity than true loyalty. Russia's past brutal imperialism under the czars & under communism has left the western world suspicious & not inclined to let Russian influence grow unchecked. This leaves Russia's will to regain world power status only one choice among potential partners : rogue states especially those ones hostile to the the West in general & to the US in particular. Why could not Russia get a Mediterranean naval base in Greece or Turkey but had to resort to Syria? The Soviets may have followed the same train of thought when they allied with Hitler in the secret Molotov-Ribbentrop pact before WWII. Is it not strange that a supposedly democratic Russia allies with two of the worst rogue states, Iran & Syria & supports them in spite of their many crimes & exported terrorism? Does Putin believe these two dictatorships have a different future than all previous similar regimes? Favoring a hated minority (shia) in the Muslim word may bring some short term benefits to Russia, but may eventually lead to dire reprisals from the majority Sunnis & a complete loss of influence in the Middle East. One could wonder about the long term value of the current real politic of Russia.
18. MISSING OPPORTUNITIES.........
Jerry ,   The Netherlands   (08.31.13)
What should have been done decades ago and what still can be done is a MUTUAL STRATEGIC POLITICAL agreement for BALANCE&PEACE between The West, Israel, Russia, China and India to REDRAW the map of the Middle East and Mediterranian for the benefit of all STRATEGIC PARTNERS to create a CLOSE ALLIANCE with the aims of: - Stopping Islamism. - Furthering democracy. and human rights. - Economic/social/cultural co-operation. - Helping Islam to join the modern world, to secularize and de-politicize with the ultimate aim of bringing them after a process of real adaptation into the ALLIANCE also. This approach would bring STRUCTURAL BALANCE and with it PEACE and PROSPERITY for all.
19. wow, jerry #18.. so Naive!
Ilan ,   Toronto, Canada   (08.31.13)
you are assuming the the religious Muslims are all waiting in line to become secular! everything modern society IS, is being taken advantage of! you cannot take away someone's freedom of religion without abandoning your own values. you can't make them stop having more than 2.5 kids like the west. in our way of life, its majority rules! that's how democracy works! they will slowly take over, and it will be their values, their rules! not ours! like in turkey!, and coming soon to france! the world needs to do what Saudi Arabia has done, in regards to freedom of religion! ( you are free to practice our religion, and our religion only) only i'm not too sure you are free as much as you are obligated! only we need to take it one step further! NO RELIGION ALLOWED!, no multiculturalism, we must be one and the same. since that isn't gonna happen for the next 1000 years, world peace wont come either! and second, business! politics is all about money! Russia needs customers, like america has! that's why they always take the side of the enemies of the west. the cold war never ended! it just evolved into politics! son of Cyrus #2 is right! its America and Russia that is the root of all the world's problems! all the world are just pawns between the two sides and their chess game to be the dominant world power!
