1. christianity stole them like thieves int he night
Moshe ,   Usa   (09.01.13)
2. # 1
Thomas ,   Poland   (09.01.13)
It's not true.

What was the alternative? A dead Jew or a live human being? After the war, religion was a non-issue in Poland, so for the individuals involved, it couldn't have mattered that much. Now their children and grandchildren can choose how they want to live their lives.
4. "Jewish religious and cultural heritage ..."
Michael ,   California, USA   (09.01.13)
The "cultural heritage" is rich and worth to be proud of. Full of creativity, hope for survival under difficult conditions, driving Jews to find solutions in all the situations over the ages. In Poland it meant being able to exist for over one thousand years, especially after the Inquisition in Spain and exile of Jews from there after 1492. Many Jews in Spain converted and survived as Marranos, also with rich and proud culture. Maybe more than a million Jews died, but the rest carried themselves with pride to Holland, Germany, and to Poland, where their culture resurfaced and thrived. Many of them eventually moved to Poland also. As to Jewish religious heritage, there absolutely nothing positive to remark about it. It was a stone on people necks, always driving them to collapse. Whatever was achieved in culture, almost always became undone by religion.
5. #2 I agree...
Edwin ,   Canada   (09.01.13)
...they kidnapped them in full daylight.
6. Thomas , it's TRUE in some cases
Charles ,   Petach Tikva   (09.01.13)
Some Christians who hid Jewish babies didn't return them to their family . I understand that they saw those babies as their own children , loved them . Not all of course , many babies returned to their families [ aunts , uncles ] , even when their parents were murdered .
7. How do you know they are really Jewish
Yosef ,   Boca Raton   (09.01.13)
No ketuvah? They must undergo conversion. If they are less than 40 then that means they are the children of the children taken in by Christian families. We do not know who this kids married. If it was their father who was Jewish... We don't even know if their mothers were really Jewish. They need to convert like the descendants of the forced Spanish conversos.
8. Yosef, good question which nobody knows to answer.
Michael ,   California, USA   (09.01.13)
Certainly conversion is not an answer because religion alone does not define a person, to which every secular "Jew" is a living evidence. Circumcision is not an answer because many non-Jews are circumcised and it would not make a Muslim into Jewish if a Mohel did the circumcision. The question "who is a Jew?" was debated several times in the Knesset with no conclusion. It is absolutely certain that if you are a Jew then I am not, and vice versa.
9. to number 3 Iselin
shimon ,   Poleg   (09.01.13)
After the war Jews were attacked and killed in pogroms including Kielce in fact all Jews of Poland were officially expelled by the government in 1965 in an official antisemtic act of Polish government so it's not as you say open a history book before you spout nonsense
10. Jewish roots
Ezra ,   San Diego   (09.02.13)
If you have Jewish roots, there's little chance you can ignore them as you go through life. HaShem calls.
11. #9:We're eternally grateful to the Polish people for the 67'
tom ,   tel aviv   (09.02.13)
expulsion.Seriously, it was downhill for Poland since then. Now the EU is slowly helping them rebuild the economy. As for antisemitism: it is well rooted in their psyche. What is not fair, is the fact that we hurl it in the faces of Poles all the time, while completely ignoring the British, Dutch, French, German antisemitism. I guess the makers of BMW & Jaguar deserve better than the lowly,Vodka-producing Poles...? How many dead Jews is Britain responsible for, by their actions before & during the WWII?

Greg ,   LA, US   (09.02.13)
"As for antisemitism: it is well rooted in their psyche" Right. One-thousand years of co-existing when Jews had a country within a country. ONE THOUSAND. Yet those STUPID Poles turned onto you just 70 years ago. Really stupid. For 930 years they were too stupid to clean you out. REALLY??!?! SEEK HELP, Polonophobe
13. # 9 & 11
Konrad ,   Warsaw   (09.02.13)
9: "After the war Jews were attacked and killed in pogroms including Kielce". I'd be grateful if you enumerated these pogroms. "in fact all Jews of Poland were officially expelled by the government in 1965" In 1965? All expelled? Strange. As far as I know, those who wanted to stay – stayed and those who wanted to leave – left. 11: "the lowly,Vodka-producing Poles". A grave omission. You should have added potatoes, sauerkraut and pickled cucumbers.
14. #1 Christianity Saved Their Parents & Grandparents
World Citizen ,   the world   (09.02.13)
And if they choose to remain so be it. If they choose to be Jews so be that. But let us face the facts. Had not Christian sheltered ewsih Poles there would be no "Jewsih" Poles in Poland. And had not Christianity codified your Torah and prophets in its Old Testament there would not be large faction in the USA that backs the modern state of Israel. Be grateful of Christianity lest it turn its back on the people and nation of Israel.
15. Dear Konrad, I hope you can stand their Xenophobia
Michael ,   California, USA   (09.02.13)
Israelis have lived through hard times, fought and survived in difficult situations. Their struggles are not over and becoming easily aggravated is part of Israeli survival psyche. They resist accepting good will from people around the world, believing there may be ulterior motives behind it. But this can change if people around the world treat Israelis well. Xenophobic behavior is temporary, it will pass. I hope you can understand and will have the patience.
16. # 15
Konrad ,   Warsaw   (09.02.13)
Patience - sure thing, Michael. It's only that I kind of can't stand this sort of belittling my country - by limiting its production potential to vodka while intentionally ignoring sauerkraut and pickled cucumbers.
17. Konrad, come to California for the taste of pickles & kraut.
Michael ,   California, USA   (09.02.13)
Thank you for the humor, and for patience. I was rooting for Agnieszka Radwanska, but unfortunately she is out as of this morning. Will you be supporting Serena Williams with me? I think there were many Israelis who were rooting for Agnieszka also, but I haven't seen the latest statistics yet.
18. to #6 Charles in Petach Tikva
Bluegrass Picker ,   Afula   (09.03.13)
if we are going to base our land-ownership claims on the idea that Moses brought us here, then we have to also own all the facts that happened in between Moses and now. One of which is.... there were some periods in our history when we adsorbed our immediate neighbors into us. That's how we got Herod.
19. #8 Michel
DavidR ,   USA   (09.03.13)
A true Jew is one by heart. The heart must be circumcised. One who keeps the Torah of Moshe and has a testimony of Mashiach is a true Jew. It matters not who the mother or father is. In secular definition it is different. One must have a Jewish Mother.
20. Embrace them
Debbie ,   Joburg   (10.09.13)
When people feel the way they do, all we need to do is embrace them, welcome them and Thank Hashem for his miraculous ways of bringing these people back to us!
