1. Obama is a total catstrophe
C   (09.01.13)
the man seems unbalanced. he is certainly not presidential material.
2. Pathetic
Sarah B ,   U.S.A. / Israel   (09.01.13)
"Obama made no secret to aides he felt uncomfortable acting without UN Security Council backing" He's not going to get it. Both Russia and China are permanent members of the Security Council. Did he not know that? Wouldn't surprise me. "Obama told aides the decision reflected his growing frustration with lawmakers who appeared to want to have it both ways—criticizing the president for not seeking congressional authorization, and then criticizing the decisions he makes" Mr. "President" has the right to call for a special session of the Congress. I guess his aides forgot to tell him that. Quite likely they do not know. But why did Obama spend Saturday playing golf? Someone should hang a sign on the main entrance to the White House -- "Gone fishin'."
3. Maybe, maybe not....
Peter ,   jerusalem israel   (09.01.13)
I can't really judge this man. If he decides not to kill people on Syria, well, I hope he has a good solution, but maybe is time for change, maybe not every problem has to be solved by war. History changers are always criticized at the moment of change. I hope for peace.

CJK   (09.01.13)
he has utmost contempt and disrespect for everyone including his own hand picked advisors. he is a narcissist and a megalomane. he is the most dangerous person who has ever occupied the white house.
5. Those were the days......
Michael ,   Haifa   (09.01.13)
...when Netanyahu and AIPAC could force Bush to toe the line. The "new boy on the block" tends towards Isolationism and feels that he was not elected into office by the peoples of Israel or Saudia and their lobbyists. He may be right or may be wrong. History will tell rather than the learned arguments of genius talkbackers on YNET
6. "I am a lover, not a fighter"
Avi ,   Israel   (09.01.13)
remember that line from some well-known song whose name I can no longer recall?! All the heroism of that man goes into his voice, in public heroics presentation, as it was seen in his announcement. Truly, he is a golfer, who has no real balls.
7. Grotesque character
Philippe   (09.01.13)
BHO grotesque character in plain light, he feels uncomfortable without the UN security council ok ? BHO has not yet caught the Security council is under the veto power of Russia and China ? So he is going to wait for the congress session when he could have convened a special session.BHO actually hides himself behind Dempsey to leave Assad all the necessary time ti hide better his arsenals. What a bright strategic thinker.
8. Why is it ..."fateful" decision.
Peter Morris ,   New Zealand   (09.01.13)
In fact this is the first foreign policy decision Obama has made not authorized by the Israeli lobby. Perhaps now with that newfound confidence we can have some real leadership in world affairs. Unless Congress i.e the Knesset reigns him in.
9. What kind of decision is indecision???
(09.01.13)
If america doesn't act the whole world will think the cat's away and it's time to play. That means China, Iran, N. Korea, Al Qaida. Obama you are a diaster for the american people and the democrats like me who voted for you.
10. Obama always likes posing with his feet
(09.01.13)
11. Beyond pathetic
Madeleine ,   Israel   (09.01.13)
The Chief Wimp has done it again - can't make a decision. He has all th eproof he needs regarding the use of chemical weapons, and doesn't need the approval of Congress. If they vote against him, he can say that he is only fulfilling the wishes of the American people - and his seat will be safe until the end of his term. Meanwhile, Assad is laughing all the way to his next chemical weapon launch. By the time - if it ever comes - America lmakes osme half-hearted attempt to destroy the WMD they will be well hidden. Britain and America - preciously seen as leaders of the free world, colonists, the tellers-of the-rest-of-us-what-to-do, are now perceived as weak, stupid and useless. Two countries - players on the sidelines in the world arena.
12. as a Palestinian,
Salma ,   Ramallah   (09.01.13)
I'm so pleased to see the new Obama, the new American president: The politician, the intellectual, not the Bush-like butcher.
13. nothing new under the dark sky and skin
joe ,   northern israel   (09.01.13)
just for a moment , i believed that john kerry stepped on the podium to raise the united states from the deep and dark hole foreign policy fell into, since obama took office 5 years ago, but then how predictable mr.arrogance his boss made it clear to each and every citizen of the world:as lomg as my wife and daughters are ok - i don't have to fight for the legitimate right of mothers and their children, when living ten's of thousand of miles away. i live under the impression that obama's tongue is no so long, but even so it fits perfectly the shape of chemical weapons- launching arab butts
14. Not surprised . .
Mike ,   NZ   (09.01.13)
American foreign policy is a shambles as usual !!I The US has been overtaken by China & Russia as a world power !
15. Get your foot off the desk!
Devorah   (09.01.13)
Look at the picture. Obama's contempt for the U.S. knows no limits. I did a search on the Oval Office desk. It is called the "Resolute Desk." Here is what I found on Wikipedia: "The Resolute desk is a large, nineteenth-century partners' desk often chosen by presidents of the United States for use in the White House Oval Office as the Oval Office desk. It was a gift from Queen Victoria to President Rutherford B. Hayes in 1880 and was built from the timbers of the British Arctic Exploration ship Resolute." His contempt for the Brits knows no bounds, either. Maybe they would have been more inclined to cooperate with him re Syria had he not arrogantly returned the bust of Winston Churchill shortly after taking office. Cameron should be more discerning about who he supports.
16. Obama
Walid ,   Spain   (09.01.13)
Since weeks I have been repeating on this site that the West are talking big but soon will put their tails between their legs and run. It began with Cameron and now Obama. Holland will follow and the last one with a big mouth, Ordogan of Turkey, will eat his words. The whole thing is a farce, a bad joke, and the US and its allies have lost credibility around the world. Assad won and his triumph will make him bolder as he continues to slaughter his people. Bravo Obama: mission accomplished!
17. @ 11
Sheik Rattle & Roll ,   USA   (09.01.13)
The American people have spoken. We have been taken advantage of for too long by the ungrateful gold digging world. No matter what we do they criticize us. We are in a financial crisis and we need to take care of our own. You can criticize the US & Britain all you want but the last time I checked Syria is your neighbor, and that argument about being your enemy is BS because Syria is and has been a sworn enemy of the US for decades. If we can act, so can you and not when it is only in your self interest. If you really was a friend you would decline any aid from us and choose your own way. You will be better off without our 3 billion dollar in aid and UN Veto every few months. The Chinese and Russians got your back wink wink.
18. A doubbleminded person totaly unreliable !.
Arn. ,   Sweden.   (09.01.13)
He is no Leader who can use the Freedom He Has in thee Right way. He is a Looser whatever way He Chooses now. Even if He does the Right thing, it is wery wery late, and has given the Evil Forces the Initiative. Even Assads son an eleven year old one mock him, very very bad for His Image in the Mideast. Arn.
19. 12 Obama is not an intellectual
CJK   (09.01.13)
he has never even written a law article even though he taught at the university of chicago. obama is a con artist who loves to rule, but not govern. he enjoys an extremely lavish life style. right now he has lost any credibility that he has ever had. even if congress should authorize a military strike, his credibility will be gone. he has no friends in the international community and no friends at home. he has stabbed in the back his own very loyal advisors.
20. 17# No backbone; you grew fat on the land
Tarbouche ,   Aswan   (09.01.13)
The last 100 years, USA had to be pushed ; Churchill, Thatcher, Pearl Harbour. Churchill , Margeret natural leaders , decisive, resolute, principled Now the Ditherer in Chief is wetting his pants. Putin can't believe his luck.
21. its a very gentel situation
HENRY ,   ISRAEL   (09.01.13)
OK agree..He is a real chicken, but if he goes (as we say) with cold head then might flare up a real fire here in mid east,in spite that Israel is strong and are able to defend his self, but no one can predict how events may be develop further .
22. No. 17 Sheik
Madeleine ,   Israel   (09.01.13)
Most of your 3 billion dollar aid never leaves America; it has to be spent on arms purchases with Americn companies inside America. I think you might find a glitch in your economy - jobs etc. - if that aid were to cease. In any case, it's not a question of whose enemy Syria is. it'srather that your idiotic pathetic president ahs made such a show of talking about the humanitarian side of the issue, that the world cannot stand by, that France, Jordan, Turkey andAustralia are with America, blah, blah, and then in the next breath he's running off to Congress. Why did he ever open his stupid mouth in the first place. he should have just shut up.
23. Iraq is the outcome of "let's shoot and then we will see"
N ,   N   (09.01.13)
Is there anybody who wants another Iraq?
24. Undecided
Chaim ,   Arad   (09.01.13)
A double minded man is unstable in all his ways. I guess that includes where to put his feet. You stand on the floor and put your feet on the desk. I could expect that out of a kid without manners, but a so called president? "Sorry people, I am undecided what to do and undecided where to put my feet."
25. Do not forget that
Dov ben David ,   Eilat, Israel   (09.01.13)
It is in Israels interest not to weaken the Syrian president. It is as easy as that. Shana tova to all of you!
26. #15 No can do - has itchy bum.
2Mad ,   גולה בצרפת   (09.01.13)
27. Oh Captain, My Captain!
ASTRONAUT ,   SC   (09.01.13)
Written by American poet Walt Whitman in 1865, this telling elegy was translated into Hebrew and set to music, in 1996, by Israel's own Naomi Shemer. Today, Whitman's words resound with our longing for "a Captain," a strong and wise leader.
28. Ted Mack? Major Bowes? Arthut Godfrey
Gideon Reader   (09.01.13)

29. Re: #10's comment
Gideon Reader   (09.01.13)
...and thinking with his tuchis.
30. Obama is wise and thoughtful
markjw ,   Cleveland OH   (09.01.13)
The US army is not President Obama's private militia. He is exercising restraint and setting a proper example for future presidents by asking for permission. All the complaints about this president and the United States mean nothing. Americans owe the Syrians and Israelis nothing. If we sit this out, its just money saved that would be better spent at home. Let the middle eastern clowns clean up their own mess for once. Israel is right next door. What are they doing about the gas attack on civilians other than trying to push America into another war?
