I knew about the Resolute desk but not that he sent the bust of Churchill back. Wow. He should have asked if he could send it to Bibi. Churchill is a hero to Bibi and he would have appreciated it more.
33. Obama will have to cancel his plans
Dror ,   Haifa, Israel   (09.01.13)
Obama will not get this attack approved by Congress. His Saudi and Wall st. handlers will have to find another way to start their war. I hope that our dumb leaders and government do not volunteer us to start the war for the GD Saudis and Wall St. banksters.
34. A man who do not have know what is right or wrong....
Calabi ,   Sydney Aust   (09.01.13)
Obama as I had thought surely he will not take much action. I say again, can you imagine he tried to jail a victim for killing a young strong violent black.Obama actually demanded justice and he lost to George Zimmerman. Claiming the shot violent man his imaginary black son! He do not know how to handle what is right or wrong. And how can he know what is evil? Defends and attack of military nature as far as America is concern Obama is an international police inspector! He is not a leader he is a bully. And he is good in bullying Israel being a small NATION. God bless Israel
35. He continues to "lead from behind" by delegating the leading
Jehudah Ben-Israel ,   Qatzrin, Israel   (09.01.13)
to others, since his knowledge, experience, expertise and appreciation of events and people abroad is certainly not part of his skills. Hence, America is perceived the way it is by friends and foe alike. But, what is the source of arrogance that he projects, hallow sense of arrogance at that...??
36. Has The Hous and Senate checked the Valerie Jarrett matter?

dovdevan ,   ashdod,paris   (09.01.13)
it reminds me that during WW2 jews were slaughtered and none moved a finger for me ethical questions are more important than interest or political calculation !!

Its not about does America owe the Syrians or Israel anything or even should he do it. Its about the image he has presented. For years to avoid pressure to take military action he has been saying chemical weapons use is the red line. Assad used chemical weapons a week ago now and even the US experts agree on that but so far Obama has done nothing other than make speeches and talk about military action. He has now decided rather than launching military action as he threatened to do he is going to go to Congress first. There is a congressional election next year and with the majority of the public against action there is a very good chance Congress will vote down action then Obama will be forced to either go it alone against the direct wishes of Congress or he will have to avoid military action which leaves him looking like a fool in the eyes of the world. Obama should said from the start he would consult Congress and then the US would decide what action to take. Instead he made lots of speeches making us all think an attack was imminent and now he goes running to Congress he looks weak.
39. @12 your reaction show how a double standard is applied
dovdevan ,   ashdod,paris   (09.01.13)
to israel by the palestinians when IDF is acting as a moral army most of the time you cry wolf but when the syrian dictator gazed his population you don't want the US to intervene and we can't hear hamas or PLO about what is happening there
40. #37 ethics v politics
Michael ,   Haifa   (09.01.13)
And if the Allies did not defeat the Nazis, out of their own interests and at great cost of their lives, you would not be writing your taklback here.
41. advantages of congress vote
Ezekial Haim ,   LONDON UK   (09.01.13)
There are advantages to a congress vote.Assuming that congress will vote yes to a military attack on Syria,Obama could be in a better position to act decisively in case of complications e.g if Syria ,Hizballah or Iran decide to retaliate against USA or its allies. Also a vote might give Obama the mandate he needs to attempt to destroy the chemical weapons. There is also a domestic political consideration in that Obama may be trying to improve his relations with Congress.
42. Congressional authorisation needed?
Nora Tel Aviv   (09.01.13)
Lybia was struck without congressional authorisation. When the time comes to strike Iran, who`s else authorization will Obama need?
43. OBAMA's INABILITY TO GRASP THE MIDDLE EAST
Meir Elazar   (09.01.13)
Obama and America are so caught up in philosophical rhetoric that they don't have the insight to truly grasp what is going on in the Middle East and the world. The focus is on the rights of people and philosophy while being totally oblivious of the context. Justice Holmes had the wisdom to curtail the right of freedom of speech saying that one cannot shout "fire" in a crowded theatre. America is so caught up with democracy and human rights that it fails to address the limitations of the context. If democratic rights empower a totalitarian Islamic terrorist regime, there is something serious wrong. This is akin to second amendment right to bear arms being applied to felons. One must not blindly advocate one's agenda and be totally oblivious of contextual situations that make this ludicrous at best.
44. Another three weeks!
Raoul ,   Israel   (09.01.13)
Memories are so short, the world will have forgotten all about that nasty poison gas. Has Obama never heard the expression *strike while the iron is hot*?
45. US standing in the world in the balance.
Israeli ,   Haifa   (09.01.13)
We have to win," one senior administration official said after the decision was disclosed. "If Congress doesn't let him act, the consequences for him and for the country's standing in the world are enormous." He couldn't be more correct. Congress better think about that.

47. that's democracy!
mical ,   usa   (09.01.13)
Obama in the past acted on his own, at it was regarded as braking the law. This time he believe there isn't going to an uproar since the Republicans were pushing for military actions for months. To everyone's surprise the British government hasitated which caused the Americans, elected and laymen alike to reconsider, reflect and evaluate the situation at hand again. With the social and economic state of the country in mind. And with the USA role in the world in mind. The majority of the American people chose to refrain from action.they want their president to build their country. It's his role first and foremost. He had to listen- that's a Democracy at play!
48. ISRAEL is on its own
Jack ,   London   (09.01.13)
America 's red lines are a pinkish grey joke The Jewish people are the only ones that can protect themselves Hit Nasaralleh & Assad the minute they show intent, we cannot afford to wait for ten thousand missiles daily and hope for weak Obama or anti semitic Europe to save us. We are dead if we don't and damned but alive if we do! Pre empt them now & then cripple Iran's reactors Kol hakavod to the IDF
49. Is that a photo with Obama with his foot on the desk.!.
Adi ,   Zurich   (09.01.13)
Is that a photo with Obama with his foot on the desk.!.
50. I recommend that all the dumb Israelis
Dror ,   Haifa, Israel   (09.01.13)
blogging a Pro war position start shutting their big mouths. This is much more complicated than you would care to know. You see only a one dimensional side of this story because you choose to see only one dimension. If you knew the whole story you would not advocate for a strike and you would want to distance yourself as far away from this mess as possible. Don't forget history, you idiots. Whenever the gentiles start having economic troubles and security troubles they will always look for a scapegoat. Do not volunteer to be those scapegoats like the idiots of past generations unwittingly did.
51. Obama's ambivalence.
Raoul ,   Israel   (09.01.13)
Straight after Britain opted out of action, France became US closest ally, and the next day the UK reverted to that status. Which is it? Was Britain notched down just to vent Obama's annoyance? This ambivalence reflects the lack of decision which is so vital at this crucial juncture.
52. #45 Israeli
Albrecht Klein ,   Germany   (09.01.13)
Which military objectives do you want to achieve by firing some cruise missiles at empty buildings?
53. @40 it shows you only the cynism of the world
dovdevan ,   ashdod,paris   (09.01.13)
during WW2 americans moved only when they felt that their interest were in danger and that Europe would fall under communism they didn't move to save the jews many jews who wanted to escape to the US were expelled ! i'm not naive interests are the only things that leads the world

Not simply "Gone Fishing" but "Up a Lazy River".
55. Congress will say no.
Reuven Brauner ,   Raanana, Israel   (09.01.13)
It's obvious. BO will not fight against the Arabs or the Moslems. There will be no US action against Syria. BO has manipulated things so that he is assured that Congress will vote against him - intentionally - and he can say, "But, I tried". Bottom line - Syria won, and more people there will die.
56. #40 Michael-A Wee Bit Arrogant...

...on your part, me thinks. You forget the Jews exist because of God, and Him alone.
