(09.01.13)
With 55% intermarriage and 30% no marriage rate, this so called "community" is on the way to demographic oblivion. In another 30 years, only a hard core of frummers will remain!!
4. #3 community is strong and growing, keep up with the news

give a reference to your percentages please, otherwise they are just made up. Did you know 90% of Americans speak Icelandic. I can make up statistics too.

7. The New Chief Rabbi of the U.K.
Imperator ,   US/Israel   (09.01.13)
As a secular Jew who attends either Reform or Conservative synagogues (depending on my state of mind) I feel that Chief Rabbi Murvis will have a difficult job in following Rabbi Sacks, a.k.a. R. Charisma Sacks. Anyway, b'hatzlaha in your new role, Rabbi Murvis.
8. #4 nira , #3 is correct

The slight growth overall is due to the Haredi birthrate. As for the rest of the Jews in Britain, there is a clear decline in numbers, due to the high intermarriage rate and low birthrate. Facts are facts, whether you choose to accept them or not.

I've met this rabbi and he is a lovely man and will make a great chief rabbi. Your comment makes you sound ignorant, bigoted and immature.
10. Lets hope he brings unity

We have in the UK a Rainbow of Strands of Judaism - Haredi, Orthodox, Reform, Masorti, Sephardi, Liberal and Progressive.... That could be a sign of Judaisms richness in the UK but sadly scratch the surface and you find its simply a sign of serious division which is pulling the Community apart How can it be right that you have a situation in the UK where 'intermarraige' between Reform and Liberal and Orthodox is made almost impossible? Where our young find the fractious and fractured Community and the intolerance shown by the Fundamentalist Orthodox Leadership to the other less Orthodox strands such a complete turn off? Surely there are ways in which we can build closer ties and not put so many obstacles in the way of inter Community Relations and Community Interaction without compromising on principle?
11. My experience
Anshel ,   Canada   (09.03.13)
I happened to someone who is an liberal rabbi in UK. After observing his eating habits (choice of meat, never mind that it was mixed with a dairy ingredient), I wonder about the beef of the liberals with the position of the Chief Rabbi. I met the former Chief Rabbi Jonathan Sacks in Toronto. His works make lots of sense and his teachings should be embraced by not only the orthodox Jews , but all, even if they choose not to follow the orthodox lifestyle.
