Obama has humiliated himself in the eyes of the world by his decision to go to Congress for permission to attack after the speeches he was making the other day which sounded like an attack was coming anytime now, Assad even went to his bunker but Obama decided to go to Congress first. He already looks stupid but if Congress votes against Obama will be a laughing stock. Obama has already made it look to Iran like the US is not serious so they are going to continue their nuclear program undeterred now and by the time the next president comes along it will be to late. With Syria though its a good thing for Israel Obam didn't attack. Although Obama wanted to only give Assad a short sharp shock rather than remove him its always possible Assad will overreact and he will use chemical weapons against Israel. Its also not good for Israel for Assad to be replaced overnight, for Israel its still best a weak Assad was left running the show because he is the enemy we know and whist he is brutal better the enemy we know than the unknown. Also the quicker he is toppled the more unstable things will be because of the power vacuum that will arise overnight and terrorists will rise up.

Israel has always fought with it's own soldiers.........and will continue to......you are a liar..........
5. I tend to agree with Obama
Ron ,   oc us   (09.01.13)
The US may want Assad out but replaced by who? And, how can Obama go in when he has few allies, no strategy, no endgame and little support at home? I don't know what Israel would gain either. Assad is a thug as was Arafat, Assad's dad and a host of others but Arabs killing Arabs is not the place to draw a red line. Better to arm the rebels quietly and let them deal with hezbollah, Iran and Assad.
6. where was i for the poll?
brett ,   israel   (09.01.13)
they never asked me. syrians killing eachother is the best thing that happened to this country since palestinians killed eachother a couple years back. Why would i want Obama's ego or lack there of to drag me into a war? Why let the American air force help out al qaida and the rest of the salafists in syria?
7. And now the manipulations continue...
Avi ,   NYC, USA   (09.01.13)
Israel never sleeps... Now that there was no war on Syria on Friday, then on Sunday, and probably not...ever, Israel is trying to play with Obama's mind. Telling him that he would look spineless, Israel believes that he will rush to attack...and look macho. But whatever worked with George W. Bush and his IQ of about 70 apparently will not work with Obama who is obviously smarter. And meanwhile Israel is the one who looks spineless...a conniving, cowardly, aging state.
8. Ummmmmmmm.......
RichInBoston ,   Boston USA   (09.01.13)
Obama IS spineless. Anyone really surprised? Anyone...?

Israeli's don't need our help. Incase you haven't noticed they are more than capable of taking care of themselves. You should pick up a history book and educate yourself. You're a good example of what happens to people who rely on PBS and CNN for their world view information.
10. He is spineless. He wants someone to blame if attack fails
Jrebecca ,   Modiin   (09.01.13)
America has a habit of getting itsself into wars it cannot get out of, and overstaying it's welcome. Obama want to take credit if an attack on Syria works well, but be able to blame congress if they get themselves into a mess again.

President Obama is clever and wise and not a cowboy like George W. Bush who listen to lies and invaded iraq murdering 4500 US heros and killing hundred of thousands of Iraqies. To use foreign inteligence reports cause damage and bad reputation to the United States. Just imagin G.W. Bush and his VP Dick Chaney res scared to travel to Europe because they are eligable for arrest for war crimes.
12. most people miss the point
Volvi   (09.01.13)
its not that because Assad is a brute, not because his enemies are brutes etc. etc. What the world is saying and saying it out loud to all the brutes of the world is go ahead and use weapons of mass destruction and you will not be personally held responsible and accountable. But then when eventually weapons of mass destruction are used against the west and to ma and pa sitting on their porch in America, then remember this month when we all did not hold them accountable. It is we in the west who will ultimately pay the price. But then dont come complaining after the fact remember your stance on this day. Its no different to Chamberlain waving a piece of paper saying we have peace in our time and all the people of the world agreeing with him so as not to hold hitler accountable. So when evil comes knocking on your door remember you, we "enabled" them.
13. Not a Simple Option
Zechariah   (09.01.13)
To attack Assad and the Alawites is not a simple option and military preparation and fine tuning could help .Gung ho Attacks might not be so smart .The Lebanon War of 1982 was a Real StuffUp.
14. he is a typical narcissist
C   (09.01.13)
he wants all the power but none of the responsibility. obama has never taken responsibility for any of his failures in his life.
15. @ 10
Sheik rattle & roll ,   USA   (09.01.13)
First and foremost I would like to say the attack could never fail, however the aftermath of a strike could get out of hand. The US military can strike 10,000 targets anywhere in the world within 96 hours if the order is given, but why should we? Why should the US shed it's blood and deplete it's treasure when not one country as of yet offered to fight Syria except the token French. The Arab League, Turkey, Israel live in this neighborhood and they want no part of Syria, and with that said, I don't blame them. It is a nasty sectarian conflict that could last for a decade without a negotiated solution.
16. #11. President Obama has been trapped in
A ,   Belgium   (09.01.13)
what his predecessor George W. , and his daddy before him, were trapped in...the muck called islam. The western mindset cannot fathom the islamic mindset, and trying to apply Western rules to mindless islamic murderers and butchers won't work. Your "clever and wise" Oblabla (yours? Not really) has inserted his foot into his mouth with his "red line" declaration, and now he can't seem to be able to extract it. The world is laughing at Oblabla, and at you too, Harold, who lamely defends him.

Very rich coming from someone who calls himself ''Avi" Your hatred for Israel continues to consume your mind.
18. # 7 Playing with his mind?
Eaglebeak ,   Left Coast, USA   (09.02.13)
If that's true Israel doesn't have much to work with. Obama isn't any smarter than you are. That's not a compliment by the way.

Sarah B ,   U.S.A. / Israel   (09.02.13)
Allow me to explain something. There is no doubt that quite a bit of Syria's vast arsenal of biological, neurological and chemical weapons have found their way to the United States. They aren't going to be used against Israel, because Syria knows damned well what will happen next. But what do you think might happen should a teaspoonful of botulin toxin be dropped into an American reservoir? How about a tadbit of sarin unleashed in the New York City subway? Or smallpox turned loose in the Mall of America? You really don't get it, do you? Israel is not the target -- both the Syrian government and the Syrian insurgents know better. It is the United States and the European Union that need to start worrying. So, how many innocent Americans dying a horrific death will it take for the United States military to strike its 10,000 targets anywhere in the world? And 96 hours is a pathetic response time, dear. Israel can go in four hours. You need to start working on your ridiculously slow response time. How long did it take Iraq to truck its weapons of mass destruction across the border into Syria? Not 96 hours, that's for damned sure. And Israel warned you. The United States -- as usual -- was asleep at the switch. Perhaps the U.S. should stick to the simple stuff -- you know, Grenada and Panama. The U.S. got its ass kicked in Korea, Vietnam, Afghanistan, Iraq and even Libya. Never mind the two hundred plus American soldiers who were killed in Beirut. Just before the U.S. turned tail and ran. I'll be kind. I won't even mention Somalia. Oops! I just did. Sorry.
20. Obama
Sean ,   Dublin, Ireland   (09.02.13)
he is soft as butter, he cannot lead a country as USA with so many conflicts. He can be a good president in Angola, not in US
21. Obama should wait until he's ready to decimate Assad regime.
Daniel ,   Los Angeles, USA   (09.02.13)
We can deal with whatever aftermath follows. No more hand-wringing.
22. I see only 1 eplanation for Obamas weird actions
writing on the wall   (09.02.13)
He is a muslim, brought to the White House with the task to destroy the USA from the inside.......Wake up, americans - and try to rescue your nation !
23. Oh...poor wittle babies...
TaylorT ,   Earth   (09.02.13)
Is it becoming hard to get others to do your dirty work for you? Haha. I knew it would only be time before the Americans woke up. But the fight's not over yet. Please keep whining and complaining about the US so I can link this site to as many in the US as possible. The citizens of Israel's 'only remaining ally' need to know what Israelis are truly like. Won't be much longer until the ICC is indicting Israeli leaders... Ha!
24. Obama reactive
Maroun ,   Lebanon   (09.02.13)
I never seen the american politics so reactive and hesitant, they are just watching what is going in the middle east and they don't have the balls to interfere. In my opinion it is Frankenstein phenomenon, they created a beast who has gone out of control. They created what we call the radical Islamist or to be fair they gave them the support, money and armed them. I can't see more than a favor to Assad if the states attacked him for many reason: 1- He will claim that he is fighting the terrorist form one side and the "devil" from the other side. 2- He will send his missiles to Tel Aviv to gain the Arabic and islamic support 3- He will push Iran to directly interfere in the war. Guys, am a Lebanese and i am supporting Al Assad, not because i like his dictatorial regime but because who is coming after Assad is a nightmare. Please no one tell me about his massacres because the IDF did much worst during the war with us.

If you listened to your Presidents speach. He said very distinctly that he is not going to put foot on Syrian soil.

First of all we have to understand the way and how it works: The Big boys who manufacture Airplanes, Helicopters, guns and land and sea vehicles and land mines sorry not forgetting chemicals used in warfare have to have customers. Now, they have to give it to the little boys to play with. Why you ask, because the big boys have to see and learn how affective their toys are. The little boys have to show their strength to the other little boys. The big boys don’t give a damn how many little boys and girls get hurt because the big boys can rush in and stop the little boys war game. The main thing of course is that the big boys have to eat so they make money and more money out of selling the toys to the little boys. Now, like most little boys, they spend more on these toys and less on producing food to feed themselves. So, they go back to the Big Boys and buy food, which again helps the Big Boys to make more money in developing bigger and better toys that the little boys should not be buying in the first place.

Moron, sorry Mouron of Lebanon, You say that Israel also massacered Lebanese people. Was this not in answer to your countries Lebonese army and or Hezballah armies or people firing rockets daily into Israel. Please tell me that you expect that the Israeli people jewish and Arabic should allow this type of life in bomb shelters, that children of various ages still cry at night still wet their beds at the sound of cars back-firing. We will defend ourselves to the very last man women or child. I suggest you look at a map and see the size of Israel compared to the combined size of arab countries. We want to live in peace brother not at war. isuggest you read " 24"
