(09.07.13)
It's a pure invention from American capitalists!!!!
4. Some things should not be combined
MLA ,   Tel Aviv, Israel   (09.07.13)
These are two different holidays with different meanings - please don't try to combine the two!
5. Santa Claus was inspired by ...
Marian ,   Romania   (09.07.13)
Saint Nicolaus from Myra, Minor Asia, the protector of vulnerable children - december 6 th
6. What need to combne?
A Jerusalemite ,   Jerusalem, Israel   (09.07.13)
It only degrades both! The Christian New Year is not a religious holiday. There is no need to try to impose our holiday on theirs Let both survive as individual celebrations, which they are anyway.
7. Jesus' brit milah
Jeremy ,   London, England   (09.07.13)
Christian New Year celebrates the circumcision of Jesus (8 days after he was born). Roman new year used to happen later, in March before the celebration was introduced. An illustration of this would certainly be tasteless, but it is accurate, and I don't see any better way of bringing more understanding between Christians and Jews...
8. Santa Claus Isn't For New Year
Christy ,   Boston, US   (09.07.13)
Would be better to have party hats, noisemakers, streamers, confetti, and/or champagne glasses - these are the visuals associated with the New Year celebration. But since it's the Jewish New Year also include visuals pertaining to the Jewish Holiday. Non-Jews don't need to have everything watered down - we can appreciate a totally Jewish Holiday. Not all Christians even like Santa Claus. Some are offended by image and won't have anything to do with it.
9. now i understand the haredim
david ,   new york   (09.08.13)
clearly this is a state that is antithetical to judaism. why should any jew support it?
10. What's next hitler blowing shofar?
Yosef ,   Boca Raton   (09.08.13)
Obviously some one didn't do their homework. The original character that later in history became Santa Claus or Saint Nick was a disgusting antis emote and here we have him in post cards?
11. Wasnt New Year either until Hellenization of Temple (BCE175)
Paqid Yirmeyahu ,   netzarim.co.il   (09.08.13)
Why do you think the Bible calls this 7th-month? Torah says that the month of Pesakh is the 1st month of the year (Shemot 12.2, 3-13). The month of Pesakh remained 1stmonth in the time of Esteir (3.7). Torah STILL maintains that the New Year is 2 weeks before Pesakh! Look at the liturgy in the Sidur. You don't even have to go to the Teimani Sidur. Even the Ashkenazi Sidur still retains the original Seventhmonth, NOT Firstmonth or New Year, theme of spiritual orientation toward the Spiritual Realm, eternal life, recognizing the Sovereignty of ha-Sheim and the imperative of Teshuvah. Even "tradition" retained the correct Firstmonth until the "Wicked Priest" of the Dead Sea Scrolls ("Jason") usurped the Priesthood, BUYING the office from Antiochus Epiphanes in BCE 175 (see www.netzarim.co.il/Calendar/Khanukah.htm#Hellenism), displacing his brother (Yekhonyah), the last Torah-faithful High Priest -- identified in the Dead Sea Scrolls as the "Righteous Teacher." The subsequent Hellenist priests running their Hellenized "Temple" became so demanding for their agricultural tithes-taxation on crops that the public attention, emphasis and resulting tradition changed from Torah-orientation to tax-orientation -- the end of the taxation year and beginning a new taxation (agricultural tithes) year: apostasy from Torah to taxation, money & Epicureanism! "New Year" in Seventhmonth belongs with Santa Claus, NOT with, le-havdil, Torah.
12. Who is behind this @ the GPO ??!!
GetName&Facess!!! ,   Jerusalem Israel   (09.08.13)
Sometimes its very revealing to get to the "source" of an outrage like this obviously is. Who is the person or persons behind this ad ? No doubt you will find 1. A former religious now self hating Jew 2. A group of Jewishly ignoramuses which are abundant in government today 3.or the usual suspects 3 or 4th generation Tel Aviv secular Israeli "Betzelel School Artists' who always love to spit in the face of the people Re the GPO has no one noticed that for the last 2 years every post office runs a film of a drag queen dressed as a religious woman enjoying being molested by a man waiting in the line This really needs investigating who is behind all this we the people don't deserve this from any government organization
13. New Year?
Joseph ,   London England   (09.08.13)
This card would be better used for Purim or April 1st. Whoever thought of Father Christmas blowing a shofar and holding the Arba Minim, should repent for diminishing Kavod Shomayim.
14. How much does a shofar get paid in Israel?
