1. The whole family looks like bunch of Turnips & Potato Heads
Zion Warrior ,   Everwhere   (09.02.13)
2. Dr.. Schulenberg forgot to mention...
Ehud   (09.02.13)
...that Hitler could not stand cruelty to animals and was a vegetarian. I certainly hope Dr.. Schulenberg is better trained as an ophthalmologist than as a judge of character or conflict solution.
3. I ask again
Sarah B ,   U.S.A. / Israel   (09.02.13)
How certain is it that it was Assad who ordered the use of chemical weapons, and not the rebels?
4. You know who else was quite and nice?
Tom I. ,   Boston   (09.02.13)
Boston Marathon Bomber Dzhokhar Tsarnaev, according to his college mates
5. What's the lesson?
Adam Helberg ,   USA   (09.02.13)
This teaches us something about human nature. After all Adolf Hitler was a polite man kind to children and dogs, Osama was a quiet speaking man, Ted Bundy had everyone fooled, and I would never believe pretty, gentle Jodie Arias would brutally chop up her boyfriend. There's an old adage: you can't judge a book by its cover.
6. Is this worthy of print Ynet?
Reuben ,   The U.K.   (09.02.13)
What is your agenda here Ynet? My G-d,,,, slow news day or just what is your agenda here, there is no Pro-Con on Bashar Assad,,,,, his soul, his wife's they are satan's now.
7. Evidently Bashar has changed his ways !
miri ,   israel   (09.02.13)
8. "The man he knew"...
M. Davison ,   Ra'anana, Israel   (09.02.13)
"Using chemical weapons is not a decision I could imagine would have been made by the man I knew." The man he knew was not the dictator of a failed third-world country or even considered next-in-line. It was only after his older brother was killed in a car crash that he became the heir apparent. Situations change people. It's fairly safe to say that Bashar Assad, Syrian President is not the "Dr. Bashar" he knew at St. Mary's Hospital in London.
9. A very damming indictment indeed
Holy Warrior ,   UK   (09.02.13)
according to ynet and ll israeli media who wish to paint Assad as evil. This doctor has nothing but good things to say about Assad and his family. It looks like it is israel who is getting desperate.
10. The apple doesn't fall far from the tree
Scarborough1414 ,   Scarborough, ON, CA   (09.02.13)
Hafez al-Assad, father of Bashar, was an autocrat who had no qualms about killing those who opposed him. Bashar seemed to be the polar opposite of his father and unlikely to be a tyrant. Tall, soft spoken, not given to long speeches, worldly, didn't yell and scream (so far as we know), well-educated and married to a woman of surpassing charm, Bashar was not supposed to be the tyrant his father was. But look at him now. Civil war, chemical weapons, many dead. Sometimes the apple does not fall far from the tree.
11. That is what they said about Kim J
DT ,   TA Israel   (09.02.13)
Ung. I don't want Assdas mentor operating on my eyes.
12. Doctor who trained Assad calls tyrant 'gentle, weak'
Lazerbenabba ,   London, England   (09.02.13)
I wonder if the doctor who trained Assad knows of the expression, " Power corrupts and absolute power corrupts absolutely". Perhaps he should be reminded of this very consistently accurate axiom. Even the the most maniacal Nazis loved their own children but did not stop them in their quest of extermination. This doctor obviously lives in his own bubble of academia notwithstanding his ability as a surgeon
13. #9...israel is not desperate, but most
b enjy   (09.02.13)
of the talkbacks here state a whole lot of truths....maybe UK its you that feels you have hit the wall.
14. (9) Holy Warrior....a good observation!
tiki ,   belgium   (09.02.13)
But a dumb conclusion! Must have something to do with the name you chose for yourself.
15. unholy #9, I think you are a little confused
Jake   (09.02.13)
It is Obama and your "very own" UK that are itching to go to war in Syria. Israel has no role to play in the Syrian civil war. As far as Israel is concerned, they can have at each other...to their hearts' content. ;-))
16. Asylum seekers?
Danny ,   London England   (09.02.13)
British-trained eye doctor with a British wife [ I thought asma was an illness!] perhaps they should claim asylum in the nearest British embassy. No surprise Parliament wanted absolute proof that Assad had used poison gas. What if al Qaeda used it on civilians to force the USA to enter the fray?
17. Better the devil you know
David ,   Shiloh Israel   (09.02.13)
Israel enjoyed sustained peace with Egypt under Mubarak, with Jordan under their king, and yes also with Syria under Assad. Just pointing out a little truth. I 100% think that chemical warfare should be removed from the equation, but not necessarily Assad. Do we really want to weaken a region where Al Quaida could take up the reigns of power?
18. "Dr. Who trained Assad"? Did I read that right?
(09.03.13)
19. Poor Mrs. Assad
Cynthia ,   USA   (09.03.13)
She thought she married a doctor. Instead, she married a butcher.
20. Good Judges of Character?
Anthony David Marks ,   Israel   (09.03.13)
There was another doctor who was very presentable, respectable and charming and liked children. That was on the one hand. On the other hand, he was a cold-blooded murderer who experimented on live subjects and then killed them a short time later. Despite many eye-witness reports, he pleaded that he never hurt anyone. His name was Yosef Dr. Mengele - MD and Ph.D
21. Regarding Mr. Assad love of computers, he
Miron ,   USA   (09.03.13)
built an on - line university where all courses taught in Syrian universities are available free of charge to anyone with computer connection in entire world. Our Mr. Obama closed schools to get money to murder people around the world. Who is tyrant? Who should be ashamed to show his face? How do I explain to my 13 year old son that US president is a maniac who should be confined in mental institution?
22. #9 And I'm sure in your warped opinion,
A ,   Belgium   (09.03.13)
you would consider Dr. Josef Mengele a kind, gentle person also.
23. Mob Power
Zechariah   (09.03.13)
The Gravity of the Mob the Ba'ath ALawite Mafia Didn't help the bad around you rubs off.Maybe a Ok soul at first but had his genes deregulated.War is Hell.
24.  Total power corrupts completely.
ORA ,   JERUSALEM   (09.03.13)
25. #21 Even though you obviously don't like
A ,   Belgium   (09.03.13)
"your" (assuming you actually are American, although doubtful) president, it still doesn't stop you from sucking on the teat of the generous American money cow, does it! Why not move to Syria and live under the kind rule of Mr. Assad?
26. Power and bad company can change a man
Zionist forever   (09.04.13)
Bashar Assad was never groomed to be president his brother was then he had a car accident and died. Bashar Assad also studied, worked in England and married a British woman so Assad was probably the way the doctor remembered once. Then his father died and Bashar had to go home and become president. At first coming from the western lifestyle he did want to be a reformer although I doubtbh warned democracy. His father was also a hero in the Arab world because he was willing to go to war with Israel and I am sure Bashar wanted som of that hero status himself Probably all his advisers and the generals worked for his sometime brutal father and of course absolute power corrupts add it all together and you get the man we have now who loves power and will do ANYTHING it takes to get it and keep it. The longer the fighting last the more he feels he has to hold onto power.
