1. Obama ALWAYS boycottes Congress
Isabella1709 ,   Tampa USA   (09.03.13)
He's just looking for a handy scapegoat in case something goes wrong.
2. Compare US pop. to Israel, Get It
Noah Lev ,   LosAngelesUSA   (09.03.13)
First of all, no Israel leader, incluidng Peres, should comment on what the U/S should and shyoldnt do. Bibi asked his ministgers to refarin..guess Peres is abo e that. The reason is ob ious One argument is that whomevcer wins, Israel is no better off, may be worse. The WMD is different. The US has to enforce the law..if no one else does..its in our and their best interests. Iran may not care much however..and once it has nukes..rattle them. If Israel is attacked, it by itself take out Syrias WMD, Hez and Hamas in a few days, if serious. Some degrading of Syrias armed forces, air strips, planes, WMD lunching sites...and increased aid to the rebels...is the key, not 100 warheads of Sarin. However, once the genie is out (WMD) there is no putting him back). The real culprit is PUtin and the head Mullahs in Iran. Syria became their surrogate thinking it would destroy Israel easier. It back fired. A point: use of chemical weapons is forbidden by law..but a non signatory to the non proliferation treaty can make use of those weapons.Israel/the USA have not signed. Its about time, BDS, Peace Now, Amnesty Intl, etc. be banned, as they promote warfare, not impede it..these darlings to the left. Me, the P.M. of Israel, and they would be shut down or locked up, just as the army did in Egypt recently. It knows its enemies, Israel doesnt still, is in denial about most everything, especially its survival. 26,000 dead Jews, thats'in USA terms, times 40 times, over 1m, get it, at current popl stats. Israel should remind the world and the Pales that it lost 1% of its pop. in 48, or equiv of 1.6m Americans. Had Israel lost even one war..we would not now talking. 110t dead Syrians..would have been 1m or more dead Jews, guys.
3. 90% of US oppose any US army involvement.
(09.03.13)
Given how polls work and how people sometime act out in the mood, this means 100% of America oppose any army action of US. Where does Obama confedence comes from? NSA listening to our phones? I mean there can be no confidence except if Obama has some for of intimidation / enforcement lever nobody outside of this "government" machine knows off of. Given how they kept omerta about phone listening of NSA, all Congressman and Senators, together, it is entirely possible that secret was just a tip of the iceberg of what this mafia does under wraps.
4. No Such Thing As Limited
emanon ,   USA   (09.03.13)
The US started in Viet Nam as "advisors"; we know how that turned out. Same story for any entity that has taken any action in Middle East. The enemy being fought does not recognize borders and guerilla warfare has become even more deadly since Viet Nam. No more dead US soldiers, no more wasted tax dollars. Syria is *NOT* a US problem. It is a tragedy that chemical weapons were used, but I'm not so sure *BOTH* sides aren't ultimately against the West.
5. The "rebels" are Al-Qaeda.....!!!!!!!
Patrick ,   Miami   (09.03.13)
Why is America supporting Islamic extremists???
6. #4: head in sand
david ,   new york   (09.03.13)
no, the US cant just stick its head in the sand and pretend that the world could go to pot and they'll be ok. they wont. iran is watching very closely what goes on with syria. if the US is a paper tiger then they will figure there is nothing lost to building they atomic bomb. al quieda will be the least of our problems. you cant walk around afraid of your own shadow. the worst catastrophe that ever happend was WW2 (more than 55 million killed and unimaginable genocide) it happened because people put their heads in the sand and were too afraid to stop germany before it was too late.
7. Kenedy & Bush didnt think things would get out of hand
zionist forever   (09.03.13)
Kenedy & Nixon didn't think Vietnam would last so long and achieve nothing. Bush didn't think Iraq & Afghanistan would last so long and achieve nothing. Obama is taking a chance on Syria, what he forgets is he cannot predict Assad's moves. Obama might want to just fire a few missiles teach Assad a lesson but if Assad retaliates what then. All it takes is for Assad to do 1 stupid thing to escalate the situation take it from just giving him a bloody nose to major conflict that may well expand beyond Syria. Obama could well find himself in the middle of another Iraq or Afghanisatn. If he is making plans to help the rebels in some way the man has flipped his lid. The rebels are not Americas friends even the so called trustworthy ones. They will use Obama but when its no longer need him America will go back to being the great eaten. The FSA are just as brutal towards civilians as Assads forces, some even worse. Obama needs to stop getting involved, this is a civil war not an invasionand America is stepping into liberate the country thats been invaded like Kuwait in 1991. The majjorty of the American public are against intervention so Obama should listen to the will of the people and stop looking for glory.
8. We'll repeat it ten fold.

Somebody needs to remind the congressmen who will be responsible for giving Obama the green like for military action that they are up for reelection in14 months time and the majority of the American public are against military action of any kind. If Obama screws this up its the congressmen who supported him who will be held responsible because they were Obamas insurance policy. Whats the priority Obama satisfying international opinion of him or votes?
10. The President could take a page from Israel's book
idf_sergeant ,   Israel   (09.03.13)
There is ONE man responsible for ordering the chemical attacks -- Gen. Maher al-Assad. If the American President was serious about a "limited response" he could find out the whereabouts of Gen. Maher and drop a cruise missile (just one) onto his head, providing a quick and effective message to the Syrian leadership. The American people would not be particularly upset at that, I'm sure.

DavidR ,   USA   (09.03.13)
Very good solution but not enough. If two cruise missiles were used, one for Gen. Maher and another for PM dictator assad, then things might improve.
12. "We won't repeat Iraq mistake " Says Obama
Daniel ,   Lod - Israel   (09.03.13)
Make new ones? That's what you will make by so called "Limited Action". Halfhearted jobs are always dangerous... Start to finish it or don't start at all.
13. I really don't think this is really about Syria...
Harry Wright ,   UK   (09.03.13)
although, Syria will serve as the arena. This seems to me a battle of the wills between Obama and the ayatollahs. This is the nearest thing to a confrontation between the western world's worst enemy and the bulwark of democracy. If the US fails to show up in the mini-arena or makes a poor showing, then the ayatollahs would have made a clear victory and are home free to do whatever they want. I hardly think that Assad used chemical weapons without Iran's approval. I think everything was well planned including the speedy mop-up operation and the conversations that the "listeners" were supposed to overhear that left no doubt as to whodunnit. Seems to me that everything was done secretly in the open by Assad as a challenge to the west to test western nerves. Well we all know who are blinking.
14. better idea is an image of future force not using it now
zionist forever   (09.03.13)
For over a year he has been talking about chemical weapon being a game changer. When they were used Obama made lots of tough talk speeches. Just when everybody thought an attack was imminent Obama suddenly announces he is going to get permission for Congress. The attack was two weeks ago now and the longer its left the less legitimacy any attack will have. Obama looks like a bafoon in the eyes of Americas enemies. Best thing for him to do is have a quiet word with the senators who are being asked to vote tell them to drag things out another 3-4 weeks by which time so much time will have passed there will be no point in military action and it will be no fault of Obama. Eventually go back to Congress ask them to vote to support limited military action ( no need to insult them again ) if Assad uses chemical weapons again. It will allow Obama to look presidential, it sends a message to Assad Obama has authority to take immediate military action if you use chemical weapons again. Its also good for the senators because they are up for reelection in 14 months and so many will be afraid to support action now. Vote to give Obama the authority to use force IN FUTURE ( a theoretical attack ) thats acceptable I think. At the same time move the USS Nimitz to just outside Syrian territorial waters because an aircraft carrier can be very intimidating. Obama now has the authorisation to go to war in future if needed and a carrier on Assads front door, actually makes Obama look serious which right now he does not do and LIMITED military action just as a punishment but not designed to change things to much is pointless
15. Never Again or Again and Again?
Mark Jeffery Koch ,   Cherry Hill, NJ USA   (09.03.13)
As a Jewish American it sickens me to read the majority of the posts on American media websites. The Syrian government, which is Moslem, has murdered more than 100,000 of its own citizens, 95% of whom are also Moslem and used chemical weapons to murder more than 400 children but somehow, according to the majority of these posts, Israel is to blame or the military industrial complex is to blame. When I see protesters in England holding up signs "Hands off Syria" in my mind I see emaciated Jewish prisoners in German concentration camps days away from being murdered and imagine people in Europe and America holding up signs "Hands off Gemany." Somehow when we speak about the "greatest generation" we forget that most Americans did not want to enter into war with Germany and had to be begged to do so by Churchill whose country repeatedly bore the wrath of Hitler, and by the time we entered it was too late for the six million Jews who were murdered of which one million were children. The Syrian government and people are among the most vehemently anti semitic people in the Arab world but nevertheless the people of Syria do not deserve to be slaughtered with chemical weapons nor do they deserve to have their cities bombed and reduced to rubble. After the Holocaust ended the constant refrain was "Never Again." The world did nothing in the 1940's to stop the murder of millions of innocent people and apparently we have not learned anything from those horrible times. For America to sit on the sidelines now is a gross repudiation of everything America stands for.
16. Obama addressed ISNA
C   (09.03.13)
obama addressed the Islamic society of north america on September 2. isna was an unindicted coconspirator in terror related cases. reform rabbi eric joffe had in the past also addressed this group, for which he was criticized. isna is an islamist organization which sends imams into prisons to preach islamist theology.

Zionist forever   (09.03.13)
Obama does not want to get involved in Syria which is why for the past year he has been talking about chemical weapons use being a game changer rather than get involved. Now he still doesn't want to do anything especially without the UN resolution Russia will veto and a large alliance and England was supposed to be a key player in that alliance until Parliament voted against. He is now under pressure from the international community to act, he has no UN backing, the American people don't want intervention so Obama wants an insurance policy from congress. The only reason he is getting involved is to satisfy foreign governments who will not be making any contribution to any military action.
18. Iranian distraction
Bernie ,   Raanana, Israel   (09.04.13)
The whole affair is orchestrated by Iran to distract the US and the world from the real threat, the Iranian nuclear weapons program.
19. #13. Obama has bluffed, bullied and sweet-talked his way....
Harry Wright ,   UK   (09.04.13)
through his presidency. Now, the ayatollahs are calling him out. How he must hate the box he has found himself in. Now his image as president of the most powerful country in the world is at stake.
